2 AAP Medical Student Affairs Representative My name is Lindsay Ramey and I am a current PGY-3 resident in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. I would be honored to serve as the medical student affairs representative for the AAP. I would like to pursue a career in academic physiatry with an emphasis on medical education as education has been a long-standing interest of mine, leading me to pursue a bachelor of science in education with a focus on sports medicine prior to my medical training. By studying in a school focused on education, I was given the opportunity to take classes specializing in teaching styles and techniques to cultivate student interest. I participated in multiple volunteer opportunities to become a stronger teacher, including working as a dance instructor and volunteering in an athletic training room and at an adult day care facility. During medical school I took on many leadership and mentorship roles, including serving on the admissions committee, teaching physical exam skills to upperclassmen, and volunteering in a program entitled Growing Up Healthy at local elementary schools. While in residency, I have become one of the co-organizers of the medical student PM&R rotation through my residency program and have sought out teaching opportunities at local medical schools to promote the idea of function earlier in medical training. These experiences have strongly influenced my goals and perspectives. I feel that my role as a physiatrist commits me not only to the betterment of my patients, but also to the betterment of the field. One of the best ways to do is by recruiting fresh, new ideas and faces to the field and this can only occur with increased awareness of the field in early medical training and better representation of physiatry within medical education. I hope to have the opportunity to do this by serving as the AAP medical student affairs representative. If selected I would be fully committed to the position and make it a priority as I believe it is a privilege to serve in such a role.
