7 Principles to be applied to the solution SNF process requirements Where possible, SFAs will be placed into new canisters SFAs that are stuck in canisters will be over-packed SNF retrieval and repackaging processes from the DSUs will be carried out within the DSU Enclosure New canisters will be placed into certified transport casks (TUK 18 or TUK 108) at the DSU Enclosure Casks will be moved to a temporary location - cask accumulation pad located near the Pier Casks will be transferred by a Pier crane onto a transport ship Radwaste management facilities will manage all waste generated by the SNF retrieval operations Canisters will be prepared and active equipment maintained in a separate facility away from the DSU Enclosure External infrastructure will be provided to support SNF and RW management facilities including roads, services/utilities etc.

29 Conclusions and Recommendations The solution for SNF management at Andreeva Bay is developed and endorsed by all stakeholders On-site improvements for the safer management of the SNF have already been accomplished by the Russian Federation with assistance from international donors Implementation of the complex of facilities for removal of SNF from the site is planned for completion in 2014 The facilities for the removal of SNF needs to be supported by the provision of basic utilities and infrastructure, radwaste management facilities and off-site transport It will be necessary to optimise the regulatory, management and administrative processes to achieve better rate of progress Prioritise tasks to ensure the solution for removal of all the SNF from Andreeva Bay is completed as soon as possible and in the most cost effective way
