5 Student profile Exclusive dedication Initiative and responsibility High degree of commitment to study Students from 70 countries A good knowledge of English and a solid base in mathematics are practically essential to learn the subjects taught at our Faculty. It is recommended that all students who wish to study a bachelor s degree in Economics and Business at UPF should take Mathematics in the Science and Technology Bachillerato or equivalent and, in any case, they should sit the university access test (PAU) for both Mathematics applied to the Social Sciences and the actual Mathematics test.

7 Structure of the bachelor s degrees Teaching quarterly Hours of exclusive dedication following the European teaching model. Timetables will be published as of May. Bachelor s degrees: 4 academic years, 240 ECTS Double bachelor s degree: 5 academic years and one term; 480 ECTS 1 ECTS credit = 25 hours of student work* * Most hours correspond to individual work and study and only a small fraction are face-to-face. Teaching combines lectures with seminars and/or practical classes.

17 English in the bachelor s degrees Bachelor s degrees in ADE, ECO and MGT 1st and 2nd: gradual inclusion of subjects in English 3rd and 4th: compulsorily 30 ECTS credits in English (it is advisable to have previously reached a level of language proficiency equivalent to B2 of the Common European Reference Framework or First Certificate in English). Bachelor s degree in IBE Teaching is entirely in English. The recommended level corresponds approximately to First Certificate in English. Double bachelor s degree in ADE/Law and ECO/Law A minimum of 30 credits are taught in English.

18 Student reception Introduction to the University (Course). This course provides an overview of how the University is run and its services. Tutorial Action. Each student is assigned a tutor who oversees their adaptation to the University. Mentoring Programme. Students may have access to a student mentor. A student mentor is a student studying same degree who it is already studying the second cycle.

19 Stages abroad Approximately 50% of students of the Faculty have done a stage abroad. Erasmus (Europe) and Sicue (Spain). About 300 exchange places at prestigious universities abroad and in the Spanish State. Bilateral agreements with universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, China, India Up to 40 ECTS credits recognized for stages abroad in the 3rd or 4th year For the bachelor s degree in International Business Economics (IBE) a stage abroad is compulsory (minimum 20 ECTS credits)

21 Internships in companies For the academic year 817 agreements were signed for paid internships in a company. (On the number of agreements is already 516). The goals of in-company internships are: To apply and complement the training received. To put the student in contact with the reality of the professional field in which they will work as a graduate. To develop skills that will help their inclusion in the labour market. Students can do curricular internships for about 14 ECTS. They must have passed first and second year subjects of the degree course. They can also do non-curricular internships at any time. Some students after their internship can remain in the company. The Faculty is promoting and trying to increase internships abroad.

24 The professionals Internationalization Teaching staff from 20 countries, never endogamic 24% of lecturers are from other autonomous communities and 30% are from other countries. 80% of the permanent or tenure track lecturers at the Department of Economics and Business at UPF obtained their PhD at a non-spanish university.

The Department of Economics and Business at UPF has received more grants from the European Research Council than any other European institution. Lectures given by professors ranked among the 10 most cited worldwide. Possibility of getting excellent letters of recommendation to continue studies worldwide. The Department of Economics and Business, ninth in Europe in the Tilburg ranking, participates in the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (BarcelonaGSE) and the Barcelona Graduate School of Management.
