1 Every year since 2010, the University of Missouri Health Care has been designated as one of the Most Wired healthcare networks in the country. To achieve Most Wired designation, hospitals must make continuous advancements in the implementation of new technology. Determined by the annual Most Wired Survey Attributed in part due to MU s partnership with Cerner Corporation

2 In June 2015, University of Missouri Health Care began construction of a $40 million, four-story expansion of the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute to meet growing patient needs. Total clinical space to increase to about 200,000 square feet. The fourth floor of the new addition will be dedicated space to pursue orthopedic research.

3 University of Missouri Health Care is 1 of 3 health systems forming a multi-state provider network with St. Louis-based Mercy and St. Joseph-based Mosaic Life Care. Goal is to increase access and improve health care for patients in Missouri and beyond, by: Building on similar patient-centered cultures Leveraging technology Using combined clinical and administrative expertise.

4 The MU Metagenomics Center (MUMC), affiliated with the College of Veterinary Medicine, opened in Fall Studies complex microbial communities and provides affordable, standardized methods for high-quality microbial DNA research. Research done at MUMC has applications in food production and human and animal healthcare -- with focus on diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis, among others.

5 Women ages 18-24, who are at greatest risk for domestic violence, tend to carry smart phones. MU School of Nursing professor Tina Bloom created One Love My Plan, an app for victims. Helps users create safety plan and provides links to resources.

6 MU School of Medicine s Dr. Alan Parrish and a team of researchers found a cellular protein is the key to keeping cells alive when a kidney is failing due to age. Insufficient levels of the protein set off a selfdestruct sequence that threatens the entire organ. By identifying the protein, the researchers hope to find a way to interrupt the sequence and keep cells alive.

7 Dr. Jimi Cook and Dr. James Stannard have developed: 1. The world s first living-tissue knee replacement Using MRI data, a customized cartilage joint is grown, then secured to the bone--adapts to body and grows stronger over time. Performed successfully on dogs and horses Team is validating process using human tissues 2. A new bone-and-cartilage-preservation technology that more than doubles the life of donor tissue. Increases the amount and quality of graft material. Allows surgeons to provide a more natural joint repair option.

Helps clients shape, communicate and deliver their scientific and health messages for individuals, policy makers and communities. Forms strategies by collecting and analyzing data. 10 MU Nutrition and Exercise Physiology professor, Dr. Heather Leidy researches proteinrich meals and snacks effects to combat obesity. She found: Women who eat a high-protein breakfast result in higher feelings of all-day satiation and better glucose/insulin control. Teens who snack in the afternoon on highprotein foods reduce end-of-day appetite, delay subsequent eating and reduce unhealthy evening snacking.
