1 SYSTEM GOAL - The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board delivers an extraordinary educational experience for every student with a commitment to continual improvement and success for all. ACTION PLAN 1 Every student demonstrates the skills and values to contribute positively to their chosen communities. Each student is unique all students can achieve. Our commitment is to every student. JAN MONTGOMERY Action steps 1. Students will demonstrate improved achievement in literacy. ELEMENTARY: reading and writing, and making meaningful connections to construct meaning from non-fiction text. SECONDARY: Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test and Grade 9 EQAO Math. By June 30, 2009, elementary students will demonstrate an 8 percent improvement in EQAO results in using the skill of making meaningful connections to construct meaning from text. By June 30, 2009 elementary boys will demonstrate a 10 percent increase in EQAO writing results. A thorough analysis of EQAO Grade 9 results and the results of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test will be completed. By October 2008, school and system targets for improvement on EQAO Grade 9 and Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test will be set. April 2009 CASI (comprehension, attitude, strategies, interest) results show an improvement of students achieving Levels 3 and 4 on Question 7 which demonstrates ability to make connections to deepen comprehension. Agendas for secondary administrators meetings reflect regular review of data. (ongoing) By November 2008, board and school improvement plans include targets for improved student achievement on EQAO Grade 3 and 6 Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Grade 9 Math and on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. 2 2. Identify and implement strategies to reduce gaps in student achievement for students with Special Education needs, boys and Aboriginal students. 3. Improve credit accumulation for Grade 9 and 10 students to align with the 85 percent graduation rate mandated by the Ministry of Education. TRISH FITZGIBBON Address elementary to secondary transition planning through: Purchase and implementation of an electronic version of the academic planner for Grades 7 to 12. Development and distribution of school based resources for the delivery of the Parents as Career Coaches program for Grades 7 to 12. Continued differentiated instruction training for all Grade 7 and 8 teachers, as well as piloting the Ministry of Education Grade 9 and 10 differentiated instruction project. A thorough analysis of Student Success indicators, EQAO Grade 9 results and the results of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test will be completed to identify students who require specific supports. By February 1, 2009 there will be an increased number of opportunities for all students to take courses and access resources to deepen understanding of First Nation, Métis and Inuit culture. By April 30, 2009, specific strategies to improve achievement for Aboriginal students are identified. The school improvement process includes setting of targets for credit accumulation which are in-line with the Ministry of Education mandate of an 85 percent graduation rate by By November 2008, board teams will compare board-based academic planner to the electronic version to ensure alignment of practice. Materials are developed by Guiding Student Success Committee for school-based delivery. Training is provided to Student Success teams. 3 2. Implement a new business intelligence tool at the elementary level to support the tracking of student success indicators and improved student achievement. ACTION PLAN 3 Maximize and align resources to provide excellent learning and working environments. DAVE RUTHERFORD differentiated instruction. Administrators are attending professional development opportunities on how to use the business intelligence tool to support the evidenceinformed decision making process. The business intelligence tool becomes a reoccurring item for discussion at the administrator meetings. Change in practices support improved student learning results from using the business intelligence tool to make informed decisions based on evidence. 1. Prepare for a Ministry of Education operational review. Current practices documented and gap analysis based on leading practices identified. 2. Coordinate interdepartmental management databases and associated applications. Identify potential efficiencies by connecting applications and implemented within the HR/Payroll and other systems. Databases are integrated resulting in improved workflow there is automation of existing manual processes. Reports from the information technology research coordinator on the progress of use by school administrators. Implement a consistent and standardized approach to e-community, school newsletters, school and district websites. School websites have a common look and feel yet are individualized enough to illustrate the uniqueness of the school. School website content is current and relevant to the school community and district. District news is communicated in a variety of ways (e-newsletter, RSS feeds, district site) and in an automated fashion Positive feedback from users such as parents/guardians, students and employees. Greater number of hits illustrates greater access to and use of the district website. 2. Develop and implement a search function on the district website. Website has a search field that is easy to locate and use. Users feel less frustrated when trying to find information on the district website.
