1 Agenda item: FL 107 USF Board of Trustees June 24, 2010 Issue: Tenure Nomination as a Condition of Employment Proposed action: Approve Tenure as a Condition of Employment for USF Sarasota-Manatee Background information: Administrators such as the President, Provost, Deans, Chairs, and senior faculty who are recruited to the USF are normally awarded tenure as a condition of employment. These highly qualified individuals usually have earned tenure at their previous institutions, which makes them attractive candidates to USF Sarasota- Manatee. In order to attract them, USF must provide a package that is competitive with other nationally and internationally ranked institutions. Tenure upon appointment, among other things, is a term and condition of the employment package that makes USFan institution of choice. In nominating these faculty members for tenure, I certify that the requirements and conditions contained in USF Regulations, Policies, and Procedures for the granting of tenure have been met. Osborn Dr. Terry Osborn s appointment as Professor in the College of Education is effective August 7, He received his Ph.D. from The University of Connecticut in Prior to joining USFSM, Dr. Osborn held the rank of tenured Professor and Chair, Division of Curriculum and Teaching, Graduate School of Education at Fordham University. The University of Connecticut granted tenure in 2004, and Fordham University granted Dr. Osborn tenure and the rank of Professor in Dr. Osborn has authored six (6) books and edited seven (7). In addition, he has served as a series editor/adviser for twenty (20) volumes and six (6) series. He has 32 peerreviewed journal articles and book chapters, the majority of which he is first author. He served as chair of the division of Curriculum and Teaching and beginning in Fall 2009 he assumed responsibilities as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Education at Fordham University. Support for tenure has been recommended by the USFSM Regional Chancellor, Regional Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Education, College of Education Tenure and Promotion Committee, and the USFSM Tenure and Promotion Committee.

5 University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee School of Hotel and Restaurant Management Cihan Cabanoglu Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu s appointment as Associate Professor in the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management is effective August 7, He received his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in Prior to joining USFSM, Dr. Cobanoglu held the rank of tenured Associate Professor in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management with a joint appointment in the Accounting/Management Information Systems (MIS) Department, University of Delaware. Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu has published six (6) books, 25 refereed journal articles, 44 refereed paper presentations, and 48 invited papers. He has won ten (10) best papers awards. He has produced 41 grant proposals, resulting in funding of $866, Dr. Cobanoglu s research is clearly outstanding and at the appropriate level for a tenured associate professor. Support for tenure has been recommended by the USFSM Regional Chancellor, Regional Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, School of Hotel and Restaurant Management Tenure and Promotion Committee, and the USFSM Tenure and Promotion Committee.
