14 The budget cut challenge Maintain momentum and make progress in an era of economic uncertainty. $26 million state cut -- more to come. National economic climate could impact other revenue streams including private giving, endowment earnings, and federal funding. Enrollment may be affected because of impact on family savings and ability to borrow money. Unknowns make definitive planning difficult

18 Outlook for state funding Reductions in state funding (-$500M in revs.) do not accurately reflect the economic conditions: General Fund is worse than the underlying economy 85% of General Fund: Sales Tax & Income Tax now Current state cuts are less than the cuts in revenue enacted by the legislature Cut Sales Tax on Food ($265 M) Earmarked DMV license fees ($100 M) Property Tax relief ($520 M) Eliminated Income Tax 2.5% ($ 86 M)

20 Next steps By June 30, replace all one-time funds with recurring dollars. Identify how to make progress toward Road Map priorities. Explore ways to generate additional revenue. Develop long-term strategies that will allow Clemson to emerge from the budget crisis as a stronger university.

21 Next steps Appoint task forces to review suggestions and recommendations received to date. Encourage contributions to One Clemson Furlough Relief Fund. Re-focus private fundraising priorities.
