Box 1068 Dahlonega, Georgia Mobile: 1-(706) Nathan McClure currently leads the Georgia Forestry Commission s Forest Utilization Department. He also serves on the executive leadership team for the agency. His activities since 2004 have focused on creating additional values from Georgia s forests through marketing and new product development; including facilitating the development of a forest bioenergy industry, developing Georgia s forest carbon sequestration program, as well as working with traditional forest products industries. He frequently provides expertise to developing bioenergy companies with biomass supply assessments and supply chain dynamics. He has also conducted business recruitment and industry exploratory missions abroad. Recent successes of the Forest Utilization Department, under his leadership, include the development within Georgia of the largest wood pellet mill in the world (Georgia Biofuels, LLC), two biopower facilities (Piedmont Green Energy and Multitrade Rabun Gap), and numerous other forestry and bioenergy start-ups and announcements. His previous experience includes managing southern timberland through establishing modern forest management plans, prescribing and contracting silvicultural practices, conducting natural resource inventories, and administering timber sales. He was also involved in a grassroots effort in the 1980 s to dramatically increase reforestation levels in Georgia using a landowner and forest vendor education strategy with the result of 2.8 million acres of trees planted in a 5 year period. Nathan is a Georgia Registered Forester and a Society of American Foresters (SAF) Certified Forester. Nathan was chairman of the Southern Group of State Foresters Services, Marketing, and Utilization Task Force for a two year period ending in December Nathan has served as a member of the Society of American Foresters Forest Management Options for Mitigating Climate Change Task Force, on the Southern Agriculture and Forestry Energy Resource Alliance steering committee, and on the 25 x 25 Alliance Climate Adaptation committee. He also received the SAF National Field Forester Award in He has authored or co-authored five publications and made well over 25 formal presentations to at the State, Regional, and National level; as well as dozens of presentations to local community organizations. Nathan was selected as a charter participant in Georgia s Executive Development Leadership Program, in 2009, and received a National

Professional Experience: 2004 Present; Chief Forester and Energy Development Director / Forest Utilization Department, Georgia Forestry Commission Serve as a member of the Georgia Forestry Commission s senior executive leadership team. Initiated, developed and currently manage the Forest Utilization Department, including recruitment and supervision of professional staff for each program area within the Department. Initiated a biomass energy assistance program for industry. Developed and currently manage a biomass energy assistance program that uses an inter-agency team approach to provide services in biomass assessments and developing business relationships. This includes continuous follow-up with companies through the development process. Initiated and led a project that produced recommended solutions to securing timber and forestry biomass feedstocks in the long-term. This involved engagement with a variety of stakeholders and contracting with experienced firms. Initiated and developed a framework for Georgia s forest carbon sequestration registry and worked nationally to improve the position of forest owners within carbon markets. Supervised four (4) surveys of Georgia s forest products industry to develop reports on timber harvest and production details. These surveys involved visits and interviews with the staff of 100% of Georgia s primary forest product manufacturing companies. Provided leadership for new forestry markets: - Chairman of the Southern Group of State Foresters Services, Utilization, and Marketing Task Force (12/ /2011) - Organized and led a forest industry technical advisory group for Governor Purdue s industry initiative (2006) - Led the Georgia Forestry Marketing Task Force ( ) of industry and landowner leaders Promoted forestry and biomass energy through expert testimony and presentations for state legislative committees, industry groups, national and regional conferences, and local landowner organizations. Participated in international business missions to Europe, Scandinavia, Brazil, and Canada to improve Georgia s global competitiveness in various forestry projects ; Forest Manager for City of Atlanta forestlands (Dawson and Paulding Forests); Georgia Forestry Commission Responsible for all faucets of management of Dawson and Paulding Forests, owned by the City of Atlanta, and managed as State Forests. 3 Performed project budgeting, supervision of maintenance staff, and contract administration for outsourced work. Achieved significant improvements by: establishing a new detailed management plan using GIS technology, expanding and improving access systems, coordinating work projects between separate state agencies and City of Atlanta officials, and implementing forest practices on an accelerated schedule. Administered timber appraisals, timber sales, environmental assessments, forest-wide inventories, timber harvest operations, reforestation practices, boundary survey, deed searches, and prescribed burning (88 burning operations). Coordinated public affairs for the project including tours for Atlanta City Council, natural resource managers, non-profit organizations, and other media relations. Served as Water Quality Forester for a 14-county district. This duty involved inspections of forest harvesting operations and providing training to loggers on Recommended Best Management Practices ; Forester Specialist Research Department; Georgia Forestry Commission; Macon, GA Facilitated forest research by assisting Research Board with forestry knowledge gaps, administering funding to researchers and implementing technology transfer of research results. Developed and managed Brender Demonstration Forest, including conducting onsite training to natural resource professionals, college students, and landowners. Served as Biomass Energy Coordinator responsible for promoting use of bioenergy through technology transfer activities and administering several cost-share and grant programs for industries to establish bioenergy systems ; Reforestation Forester; Georgia Forestry Commission; Gainesville, GA Established a regional program to identify areas of reforestation needs and solicit reforestation investments. Solicited public speaking opportunities to local organizations and organized county forestry committees. Performed financial analysis of forestry investments for forest managers and landowners. Provided management plans for private forests and provided technical assistance for forestry cost-share programs. Organized training workshops for forestry site prep and tree planting vendors.
