5 Preparing for a Banner Install using Ellucian XE Technology Get ready for your Banner application installation and deployment. An overview of the Banner architecture, hardware recommendations, and identity management requirements using XE technology will be presented. The Database Extension Utility will also be discussed. At the conclusion of the session, participants will have the requisite knowledge to plan for a Banner application install using XE technology. 10 Introduction to Modifying Banner Pages Using Ellucian XE Technology It's time to start learning how to modify your Banner SSB and Admin (INB) pages using XE technology! With XE, you can extend your admin pages (forms) as well as your SSB pages, all using the Groovy on Grails framework. In this session, you will get a good start. You will be introduced to the MVC (Model-View-Controller) design model and what it means for you as a developer. Then, a demonstration will be given on how to modify Banner Admin pages and a hands-on session on how to modify XE SSB pages will be held. Participants should have prior programming experience, have an understanding of Object-oriented concepts, and will have either completed the Introduction to with Groovy and Grails course or have equivalent experience. 12 Creating Colleague Transactions This session will teach programmers/developers how to create Colleague Transactions using the Colleague Studio Transaction editor. Colleague Transactions allow external applications such as Ellucian s Colleague Self Service and applications created using the Colleague SDK for.net to interface with Colleague. 13 Converting Paragraphs and UniBasic Programs This session will provide programmers/developers with the steps necessary to convert paragraphs and UniBasic programs into Envision processes. The processes explained in this class are particularly useful to clients converting from UniData to SQL Server. The class includes lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice. 14 Debugging All Things This session focuses on debugging a process using Colleague Studio and Generated Runtime Diagnostic Service (GRDS). Participants will learn to use the Colleague Studio Debugger to debug a subroutine, UI form, batch, report or web form process. They will also learn how to use the Generated Runtime Diagnostic Service (GRDS) to obtain information about their process including how to imbed custom diagnostic information. 17 Special Calculation Subroutines Have you ever seen a form where it asks for the name of a Special Calculation Subroutine and thought to yourself Could this be useful to me? or Should I try to learn about this? The answer is YES!! Special Calculation Subroutines (also known as Special Action Subroutines) can be incredible assets that can enhance the existing functionality of Colleague processes and save time. In this session we will examine the phenomena of special calculation subroutines and show you how to utilize them. We will answer questions like In what applications are they available?, Are there any delivered examples I can look at?, and What arguments is the subroutine expecting?. We will do it all research, write, test, and prepare the special calculation subroutine for packaging. **SPECIAL NOTE** This session is for active users of Studio. You can automate a business process with tasks and responsibilities in a workflow. 35 UniData Virtual Machine Skills for Colleague with SQL Server or Oracle Colleague clients that use SQL Server or Oracle to store their Colleague data still have to manage UniData as their virtual machine (VM) for the Colleague application. There are some UniData specific knowledge and skills that are useful in effective Colleague application management. Topics will include basic UniData VM structures, techniques for accessing the UniData VM colon prompt, executing useful UniData commands, using the Envision Line Editor (ELE), and creating UniData VM paragraphs. 39 Portal Course Catalog This session provides high-level information about the ease of configuration\setup of the course catalog in the Portal. The course catalog allows portal users to search and browse for courses and sections, and add sections to their preferred list. The course catalog also provides a link to WebAdvisor, where the user can register for sections in their preferred list or remove sections from their preferred list. Information in the course catalog comes from Colleague courses and course sections. Using an Envision form, you can specify which courses and sections are included in the course catalog. 52 Java and Object Oriented Programming Overview Java is the dominant open source language for enterprise and cross-platform development today. This 3-day course introduces students to Java and OOP (Object-Oriented Programming) concepts. It covers the fundamental language features, as well as the Java development and runtime environments and the Core API library. Students will learn the syntax and constructs of the Java programming language, including fundamental OO concepts such as classes and objects, encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism. They learn how to create and use Java classes containing arrays, collections, loops, conditional constructs, and exception handling. Standard conventions and best practices are emphasized throughout. While the course is overview in nature, it provides thorough coverage of the selected topics, including significant hands-on work. Note: this class is not Banner-Specific.
