2 Financial Planning Fundamentals is a comprehensive financial planning program integrating six subject areas of financial planning. The emphasis of this program will be practical application of theoretical knowledge. As you navigate through the integrated program sessions, you will develop the mindset and competencies necessary to transform you from an effective worker to an astute financial planner. You will also be better positioned to link your new skills with the needs of your business or with employer specific organizational needs. You will be able to return to work with functional tools and a plan to contribute immediately. Financial Planning Fundamentals aims to provide integrated learning of the following financial planning subject areas through case study. Investments Assist in developing your firm s investment philosophy. Develop an overview of the investment management process as it relates to the financial planner. Review the core principles of asset allocation. Learn how portfolios are constructed to meet a client s goals and objectives. Risk Management Identify financial risks faced by your clients and how various insurance policies may mitigate their risks. Determine a client s life insurance needs. Gain an understanding of the different types of life insurance policies and suggested uses. Review different policy illustrations, both new and in force, to evaluate the quality and appropriateness of the product. Estate Planning Prepare a sample estate timeline (key dates, time and pitfalls; what happens, when, how and by whom?) Tools and terminology required to understand the estate planning process. Components of a will and how to review a trust document. Differences between per stripes and per capita. Common mistakes to avoid. How not to be intimidated by an attorney.
3 Retirement Planning Goal setting and non-financial aspects of retirement planning. Review of retirement savings vehicles and social programs. Integrating retirement planning decisions, with insurance, investments, and income tax. Understand the process of helping clients build financial security. Income Taxes Basic income tax formula and the 1040 including filing status, dependency rules, W2s, dividends, capital gains and losses. How to prepare a tax projection including looking for trends. Gain comfort when navigating a client s Communication Improve your inquiry skills, nonverbal communication skills and listening skills Enhance your awareness of assumptions and judgments that can influence effective communication. Learn how to become comfortable with emotional content and reactions Aenean aliquet, metus Comprehensive financial planning requires those providing advice to be knowledgable and experienced in all potential areas of need required by the client - otherwise they are not practicing true financial planning.
4 Program Special Features Professional advisors and industry experts will contribute through live case studies and sessions that focus on individual development. Peer and faculty coaching will be tightly interwoven throughout the coursework, delivering real time, direct feedback. Camaraderie will be encouraged by meeting and working with peers and senior advisors. Simulations and exercises will include a mentor panel discussion. Focus on ethical and substantive issues and problems that affect personal financial planning. Provide an opportunity to critically examine established assumptions and paradigms. Encourage and promote critical and analytical thinking, to reach beyond traditional and orthodox approaches and perspectives. The program is designed for: Newly certified CFP practitioners Candidates for CFP certification CFP professionals who have held the designation for less than three years Para planners Financial Planning Fundamentals is a program designed to give our next generation of financial planners a helping hand in making them the best planners they can be.

6 Meet Your Teaching Faculty Robert Maloney Robert Maloney, Chancellor, NAPFA University, founded R.E. Maloney Associates, Ltd. in 1982 to provide Fee Only personal financial planning services. Led by the needs of his clients, he developed the firm's expertise in comprehensive planning. His client base includes women, retiring and retired couples, and owners of closely held businesses. They look to R.E. Maloney Associates to help articulate personal goals and develop comprehensive planning strategies for achieving those goals. Bob has served as Chairman, President and Director of the Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council, President and Director of the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the International Association of Financial Planners (IAFP) and is currently a member of the New Hampshire Estate Planning Council. He is also an active member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA); he served three years as President and Director of the Northeast Mid Atlantic Region of NAPFA. Bob is currently heading a committee to develop NAPFA University for the continuing education of planners/advisors. Roseann Bové Roseann Bové, CFP, CLU, MSFS, Dean of NAPFA University s School of Risk Management, is a Certified Financial Planner, a Chartered Life Underwriter and Vice President of Breton Financial, Inc., a fee only financial planning and portfolio management firm. She also holds a Masters degree in Financial Planning from The American College. Ms. Bové holds Certificates in Advanced Estate Planning, plus Investment Strategies and Portfolio Management from the College for Financial Planning. Ms. Bové is member of the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council, the Financial Planning Association and The Society of Financial Service Professionals. Ms. Bové is a NAPFA Registered Financial Advisor. She is also listed in Who s Who in the East. Ms. Bové currently serves as Dean of the School of Risk Management for NAPFA University.
7 Meet Your Teaching Faculty Christopher Brown Christopher N. Brown, MBA, CFP AIF, Dean of NAPFA University s School of Investments is President of Ivy League Financial Advisors LLC located in Rockville, Maryland. Ivy League Financial Advisors LLC provides comprehensive financial planning and investment advisory services on a Fee Only basis to individuals and small businesses. Mr. Brown specializes in retirement planning, investment management, college planning, estate planning, and planning for small business owners. Ivy League Financial Advisors LLC is compensated solely by its clients and does not receive commissions based on the sale of any investment or insurance product. In addition, the firm does not accept referral fees. Mr. Brown is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP ) licensee, having completed his coursework from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. He holds a B.A degree in Economics and a B.S. degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, repeatedly ranked by both the Wall Street Journal and Forbes Magazine as the country s best business school. Mr. Brown is also a former instructor with the College for Financial Planning. In addition, he recently received the designation of Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF ) from the Center for Fiduciary Studies. Rebecca Chacko Rebecca Chacko, Dean of NAPFA University s School of Retirement, is a NAPFARegistered Financial Advisor (National Association of Personal Financial Advisors) and a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Rebecca is a Certified Financial Planner professional. She completed the CFP Professional Education Program from the College for Financial Planning. She has a Master of Science in Administration from the University of Notre Dame; a Masters degree from Case Western Reserve University; as well as two Bachelors degrees completed in India. Rebecca owns Chacko Hertz Financial Solutions. The firm is a Licensed Investment Advisor with the Arizona Corporation Commission Securities Division. Comprehensive financial planning and investment management services are provided under the Fee Only model. This model promotes high ethical and fiduciary standards, a clientcentered relationship, unbiased objective advice, full disclosure, no commissions from the sale of financial products, and compensation based on an hourly rate, project fee or annual retainer.
8 Meet Your Teaching Faculty Jeffrey Daniher Jeffrey Daniher, Dean of NAFPA University s School of Estate Planning, is co owner of Ritter Daniher Financial Advisory, LLC, a Fee Only financial planning and asset management firm located in Anderson Township. His firm provides comprehensive wealth management services to female heads of household, retirees, and those nearing retirement. He has a specialty of assisting clients with estate administration. As a Fee Only financial advisor he does not receive any compensation or other remuneration that is contingent on any client's purchase or sale of a financial product. Mr. Daniher is also an industry leader in determining new ways to utilize technology in order to run an effective and efficient financial planning practice. Melissa Hammel Melissa Hammel, Co Dean of NAPFA University s School of Communication, is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP ), and a temporarily Licensed Professional Counselor/ Mental Health Specialist, serves as managing Partner and Principal Financial Planner at Hammel Financial Advisory Group, LLC, a financial planning and Registered Investment Advisory firm located in Brentwood, Tennessee. The firm specializes in providing holistic Fee Only financial planning and asset management for individuals and families. As Principal Financial Planner, Melissa leads the financial planning process by offering clients broad based financial planning, counseling, coaching, and wealth management services. She emphasizes the importance of reviewing retirement plans, asset and liability protection, and cash flow management. Through her studies and practice as a therapist, Melissa has developed knowledge and understanding of the psychological aspects of money, spending, and communication issues within couples and families. She offers a unique ability to view her planning work from both a quantitative and qualitative approach.
9 Meet Your Teaching Faculty Bernard Kiely Bernard Kiely, Dean of NAPFA University s School of Taxation, is a NAPFA Registered Advisor. He is a principal of Kiely Capital Management, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisor. He is also owner of Bernard M. Kiely, CPA, an Accounting firm where he specializes in individual taxation. Bernard has been providing Fee Only financial planning, investment advisory and income tax services for individuals for over 25 years. He was recognized by WORTH Magazine as one of The Best Financial Advisors in the nation four times in a row. His practice was profiled in the December 2000 issue of Investment Advisor Magazine. Bernard s practice was profiled in the February issue of the NAPFA Advisor. Accounting Today Magazine has twice listed him as one of the CPAs to know in financial planning. Bernie was the feature story in the April 2005 issue of CPA Wealth Provider Magazine. J. Jeffrey Lambert J. Jeffrey Lambert CFP began his career in financial services in 1977 and received his CFP professional certification in Jeff is a nationally recognized CFP practitioner who has played a significant role in the development of the financial planning profession. He helps individuals and families to use their financial resources to achieve their unique goals and to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. Jeff is a Fee Only, NAPFA Registered Financial Advisor, has completed the Accredited Investment Management Consultant (AIMC) designation program of the Investment Management Consultant Institute and holds the Certified Financial Manager (CFM) designation. He is a continuing education speaker to professional groups and has won many awards including, Sacramento CFP of the Year. Mutual Funds Magazine listed Jeff among their 100 Great Financial Planners both times it was published. Since 1996 Jeff has served as Program Director and instructor for the UC Davis Extension, Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program, a professional education program registered with the CFP Board of Standards. Jeff, along with Peter Sander, co authored the book, The Ultimate Guide to Personal Finance for Entrepreneurs published by Entrepreneur Press
10 Meet Your Teaching Faculty Jennifer Lazarus Jennifer Lazarus, CFP and NAPFA registered advisor, is a financial planner for the socially responsible investor. She specializes in no load socially responsible mutual funds, community investments, cash flow and LGBT planning issues. Her primary service is ongoing comprehensive financial planning for the socially responsible investor. She also offers two types of focused consultations for questions related to cash flow or socially responsible investing. There are no investment account minimums and her clients pay flat fees. Her firm, Lazarus Financial Planning, is based in Durham, North Carolina and she also works with people around the country. In addition to NAPFA, Jennifer is a member of Pride Planners, Social Investment Forum and First Affirmative Financial Network. Jennifer is currently serving as co dean of NAPFA University s School of Communications and as the NC Triangle Study Group leader. She s keen on Slow Money coming to Durham, combining her passions for local food and high impact, philanthropic investments. Paul Baumbach, CFA, CFP, ChFC Paul is Dean of NAPFA University s School of Investments is founder of Mallard Advisors, LLC. He has provided comprehensive investment advice to individuals since 1993, when he joined West Chester, PA, firm RKM Advisors as a financial planner. After completing three years at RKM, and two professional designations (CFA and ChFC), Paul founded Mallard in Newark, Delaware, where he has lived since Paul is a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor and earned his CFP in Three times Paul has helped to organize the NAPFA regional conference in the Philadelphia area, including as co-chair. He has offered free educational seminars through the Delaware Money School for ten years. Paul has made presentations to the AICPA s Advanced Investment Management Conference, Goldey Beacom College, Technology Tools for Tomorrow conference. He has been quoted in local and national publications and has been a guest on both local and national television programs. Paul built Mallard as a haven for investors who are tired of investment advisors with conflicts of interest. Mallard has always been Fee-Only, and is committed to high quality, personalized financial advice. Clients have steadily increased in numbers and in the amount of their wealth they entrust to Mallard's management since Paul's previous career was in computer science, a field in which he holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware, a Masters degree from Villanova, and ten years' experience.
