Involvement in athletic/performance activities is a privilege, not a right. As a student representing the college, you are responsible for your actions. If such actions are in violation of the Code of Conduct, disciplinary action will be taken. These guidelines are in effect for all student athletes from the starting date of the first fall practice (usually the second week in August) to the end of school or the ending date of the last spring athletic/performance activity (whichever comes last). These guidelines also apply to students involved in camps and activities through the summer, away trips, and other school sponsored activities. Any violation of the code of conduct will result in disciplinary action. Guidelines for Behavior Respect yourself Respect others Respect property Student-athletes are expected to adhere to the codes of conduct at all activities whether on campus or off. A student-athlete is expected to remove themselves from any situation where illegal drugs or alcohol use is taking place. Disciplinary measures may be taken against athletes who are caught in such a situation.

4 Dormitory Conduct Responsibilities accompany the privilege of residing in college housing. Guidelines for dorm conduct prohibit the possession, use, or distribution of alcohol or drugs on school property. Please be aware that dorm policies are legal and binding and do not violate personal privacies. For complete guidelines on acceptable resident behavior, refer to the residential life handbook. Road Trip Conduct Student athletes representing Cowley County Community College on road trips are asked to follow the same policies and procedures listed above. You are asked to represent the college with courtesy, sportsmanship, and respect for others. Disciplinary Actions It is recognized that individual coaches have on file with the Athletic Director their own requirements and regulations for conduct during practice, performance, travel to and from competition and in competition. This is as it should be and this discipline policy is not meant to infringe upon or detract from that right and that responsibility. However, there are times and situations separate and removed from the immediate confines of practice and competition in which the student can and may be in violation of policies or regulations. Students involved in inappropriate behavior will be subject to certain disciplinary actions. All disciplinary actions and subsequent enforcement are cumulative for the entire enrollment at CCCC. Responsibilities Before Competition A copy of the following forms must be filled out and on file in the Cowley Athletic Office. You will also need to do the following: 1. All student athletes must have on file in the Admissions Office an official copy of their high school transcript and an official transcript of any college courses taken. All transcripts should be sent to: CCCC Admissions Office 125 South 2nd Arkansas City, KS All student athletes must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of college work each semester at Cowley County. If you should fall below the 12 hours, you are automatically ineligible for athletic competition until full time status is reinstated. 3. Each student athlete must have their Letter of Intent or Scholarship Agreement signed and on file in the Athletic Office before the first day of school. 4. Each athlete must have the following forms filled out and on file in the Athletic Office prior to the first day of school: a physical form, a medical history form, an insurance form, emergency authorization form, heat and acclimatization, and an assumption of risk sheet. If any of these requirements are not met, then the student athlete will not be allowed to participate in practices or games.

5 Athletic Eligibility 1. Student athletes must be making satisfactory progress with an approved college program or course as listed in the college s catalog. 2. Student athletes must be in regular attendance within 15 calendar days from the beginning of classes in the term that the student athlete wishes to participate. 3. Student athletes must maintain enrollment in 12 or more credit hours of college work as listed in the college catalog during each term of athletic participation. Athletes that drop below 12 credit hours become immediately ineligible until full time status is reached. Permission to withdraw from any class must be obtained from your advisor and indicated on your drop slip. 4. Prior to a second full-time semester, a student athlete must have passed 12 credit hours with a 2.00 GPA or higher. 5. Prior to a third full-time semester and all subsequent terms thereafter, a student athlete must satisfy one of the following two requirements: A. Pass a minimum of 12 credit hours with a 2.00 GPA during the previous term. B. Pass an accumulation of credit hours equal to 12 multiplied by the number of terms an athlete was previously enrolled full-time with a 2.00 GPA or higher. 6. Prior to a second season of participation in a National Junior College Athletic Association certified sport, a student athlete must pass a minimum of 24 semester hours with a 2.00 or higher GPA. 7. Student athletes must be enrolled full-time when the regular season schedule of sports begins. A student athlete not enrolled fulltime when the season starts remains ineligible throughout the season. 8. Athletes must not have previously competed during two seasons of any given sport at any intercollegiate level. 9. Participation in any fraction of any regularly scheduled contest during the collegiate year shall constitute one season of participation in that sport. Participation means entry into a contest and does not include dressing in uniform for the game. Athletic Training/Insurance I) Physical Examinations a) All student athletes must obtain a physical from an MD prior to the first day of school. No athlete will be allowed to participate without an official physical on file. b) Student athletes must use the CCCC physical form. II) Insurance Coverage a) The Cowley athletic insurance policy will cover only injuries due to participation in official games or official practice.

6 b) The Cowley athletic insurance policy provides secondary coverage. This means that the athlete s personal insurance policy (or their parents personal insurance) must be filed at the time you visit a physician or hospital. Once your own insurance has stopped paying, Cowley s insurance policy will pay the remaining costs. c) The athletic insurance form must be filled out completely and turned in before the athlete can practice or play. d) Athletes must visit the head athletic trainer and get a referral form to take to the doctor, etc. Failure to do this will result in no medical coverage from the department s insurance company. It is very important that you report any injuries to your coach and the head athletic trainer as soon as they happen. Any questions concerning insurance coverage and medical bills can be directed to the Athletic Trainer in the Training Room. Training Room Rules Cowley County Community College has one of the premier athletic training programs in the state of Kansas. Cowley Head Athletic Trainer Jeff Fluty, ATC, Dallas Brose, Asst. Athletic Trainer and the staff of student athletic trainers will provide services to all Cowley student athletes for any injuries sustained during the school year. 1. All Athletes must be signed in before receiving treatment. 2. Athletes are not to treat themselves. 3. Do not touch the equipment. 4. No food is allowed in the athletic training room. 5. No horseplay or foul language 6. Everyone in the training room is to be treated with respect. 7. Phone is for athletic training use only. 8. Head Athletic trainer/asst. Athletic Trainer must evaluate all injuries before receiving treatment. 9. All equipment must be checked out by staff members. Athletes are financially responsible for lost or damaged equipment. 10. Do not use the athletic training room as an excuse to miss/be late to practice. Anyone with questions about the training room call Academic Information Advisement Your advisor at CCCC takes a special interest in you and your future educational goals by guiding you in planning your program of study, preparing you for graduation, considering your transfer options and providing you with job search information. During initial enrollment or orientation, you will become acquainted with your academic advisor. It is your responsibility to communicate your needs to your advisor, meet with him/her periodically during the semester, and seek counsel when you are having difficulty. It is your advisor s responsibility to provide you with the best academic advice

7 available to him/her, be available for consultation when you are having difficulty, and keep you informed concerning your progress toward graduation. To ensure your success at Cowley, your advisor will set up appointments with you throughout the semester. These appointments may include the first four weeks of classes, release of mid-term and final grades, and enrollment for the following semester. If there is a particular advisor you would like to work with, change of advisor forms are available at the Information Window on the main floor of Galle-Johnson Hall, or from your advisor. New Students First-time enrollment for new students will take place through the Academic Advisor. As part of the enrollment process, your high school transcript or transcripts from previous colleges you ve attended will be requested. You may also be required to take a course placement test in English, math, computers or all three. Enrollment for each semester following your initial enrollment will be handled by your assigned advisor. If you do not know who your advisor is, please contact the Registrar s Office. Returning Students Pre-enrollment for the Spring semester begins in November and for the Fall and Summer semesters, in April. It is very important to set up an enrollment appointment with your advisor as early as possible. If you wait until the last minute to enroll, you may not get the course or section you want. Students will not be allowed to enroll with anyone except their assigned advisor. Adding and Dropping Classes Add/Drop slips can be obtained from your advisor. They must be signed by yourself, your advisor, the course instructor and your coach. Add/Drop slips must be turned into the Registrar s Office on the first floor of Galle-Johnson Hall in order to complete the process. See Policy #254 for more information about the drop add policy. Attendance and Classwork Students are required to be on campus only for classwork. Any absence whatsoever from classwork creates a loss which is difficult for the student to make up. It is the student s responsibility to makeup course work missed for any reason. At the beginning of each grading period, the instructor shall publicize his/her class policies. Each instructor shall determine when the absence and/or sub-standard performance may result in the student being withdrawn from the class by the Registrar. Before an instructor is permitted to request the withdrawal of a student from a class, a student progress report must be sent to the student by the instructor stating that success in course work is in serious jeopardy. See policy #257 for more information. The complete withdrawal form must be signed by all college personnel listed, verifying that you do not owe the college any money. In order to complete the process, you must turn the completed form, with all required signatures, into the Registrar s Office. By officially withdrawing prior to 10 days before final exams, you receive a notation of W on your official transcript. If you stop attending classes, but do not officially withdraw according to the above procedures, you will receive a grade of F for each course. Specific deadline dates for withdrawal change each semester. Please check with the Registrar s Office for specific dates. See policy # 255 for information.

8 Final Examinations A final examination is required for each academic credit course. Finals are given according to a special schedule issued near the end of each semester, and students must take such finals at the scheduled time. Permission to take finals at another time will be granted only for compelling reasons, not merely for the convenience of the student. Such permission, if granted, must be secured PRIOR to the time of the final in question. Failure to appear for a final may result in loss of credit for the course. Athletes need to check finals schedules prior to making arrangements to go home. Degree Offerings Degree options available at CCCC include: College Certificate, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, Associate of Arts (AA) degree, Associate of Science (AS) degree, and Associate of General Studies (AGS) degree. Certificate or AAS degrees may typically be completed in two years or less. The Certificate and AAS degrees allow you an opportunity to get hands-on training and enter the job market directly after graduation. The AA or AS degrees are designed to transfer to four- year colleges and universities. Cowley is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and as such, general education courses usually transfer to four-year colleges and universities. You should check with the college at which you plan to transfer for questions regarding the transferring of specific courses. They have ultimate authority over what courses they will accept from Cowley. Requirements for attaining the AGS are more flexible than requirements for the AA or AS degrees. For a comprehensive description of CCCC s degree options, refer to the College Catalog. Catalogs are available in the Admissions Office, main floor of Galle-Johnson Hall. College Policies Academic Honesty All College policies are listed on the website at Services, Programs & Facilities Athletic Academic Advising Each athlete s performance in the classroom will be monitored to insure that they are receiving the best affordable education possible. The attendance is checked along with test grades. Instructors are encouraged to write brief notes about the students to help the athletic staff monitor performance in the classroom. This information is presented to the coaches and athletic director. This is in conjunction with each coach s personal procedures. Tutors and note taking are ways athletes are assisted in classroom performance. Most coaches also require study hall. Bookstore The Sid L. Regnier Bookstore is Cowley headquarters for textbooks, computer software, school supplies, Tiger apparel, and much more! Students may purchase required textbooks at the bookstore and return them at the end of the semester during the bookstore s posted buyback period. McAtee Dining Center is open to all students and staff at Cowley.

Under the leadership of this year s officers, a continuing emphasis is placed on total community involvement in supporting the athletic program. TBC Luncheons Tiger Booster Club meets to honor Cowley athletes and their teams. At this luncheon, every coach gives a team update. Community members from around the area participate in this event. Adopt-A-Player Program Many of our student-athletes are very far from home. Some are even out of country, and they need a support system here at Cowley County Community College. Cowley s Adopt-A-Player program is designed to give our community members the opportunity to make these student athletes feel at home and to give them a means of support throughout the school year. The help and support we give these students will be remembered, and they will know they made the right choice by attending Cowley County Community College. The friendships made through this program will be priceless. Student Athlete of the Month The TBC started an awards program to give recognition to student athletes who perform well in athletics and in the classroom. Each month coaches nominate their athletes for the Student Athlete of the Month Award. A committee selects one male and one female winner per month and recognizes them with a plaque. Athletic Awards Banquet The Tiger Booster Club and Cowley Athletic Department recognize their outstanding athletes and coaches at the Athletic Banquet at the end of the school year. At this banquet coaches present their conference and national awards. With approximately 400 people in attendance, athletes and their families have a wonderful dinner and a very memorable evening.
