3 Globalization is erasing boundaries. Emerging markets will dominate the middle-class worldwide as global middle class consumption shifts towards China, India, and other Asian countries. Economic events in one country now reverberate world wide. Global emphasis on innovation, technology, efficiency, agility and collaboration demands a trained workforce. Obama-Singh 21 st Century Knowledge Initiative (OSI) recognized the importance of fostering institutional partnerships in education. How did MC respond? 3

4 Contacted in 2007 by the state of Haryana to help them develop a scalable, flexible, and relevant community college system Awarded $195,000 grant by U.S. Department of State to coordinate a national community college symposium in New Delhi that focused on the link between workforce development and community colleges in 2011 Attended by US and Indian government officials, industry leaders, and educators Visited several of India s polytechnics and industrial training institutes to assess infrastructure and available resources Hosted technical vocational educators from India to tour the college and gain an understanding of multi-campus operations in

10 MC formed a 501(c)3 in order to seek out new entrepreneurial revenues both inside and outside the country. The goal is for MCGEI to coordinate any international relationship projects that come to fruition. The College has visited China, Ethiopia, and India to develop partnerships with global entities, and has hosted numerous foreign delegations. MCGEI helps us deliver educational resources that can benefit other countries: highly relevant curricula and well-crafted courses delivered through proven educational models. 10

11 Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, GHI is an entity to globalize our classrooms. They create campus events on the role of globalization in studying and teaching the humanities, and train faculty members to broaden the focus of their courses. The College has visited China, Ethiopia, and India to develop partnerships with global entities, and has hosted numerous foreign delegations. MC is currently designing a Global Education Center that will encourage and coordinate global engagement and in across all academic disciplines. 11

S.-India Higher Ed Summit Joined Governor Martin O Malley and 100 business and education leaders to build trade and economic partnerships on the 2011 Maryland Trade Mission to India Invited by India s Ministry of Human Resources Development to speak at the 2013 International Symposium on Community Colleges, New Delhi Participated in 2013 India-U.S. Higher Education Dialogue at invitation of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry Joined Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett s Economic Development and Sister Cities Mission to India in November

13 OP Jindal Global University signed academic MOU in 2014 during the county executive s mission trip to India KeyGene signed training MOU in 2015 during the grand opening of their new Montgomery County Headquarters Infosys designed customized training program for new employees to allow the company to expand into Montgomery County Amarex Clinical Research designed and co-delivers a popular Clinical Trial Project Management course that is offered locally and online to students in India; developed a new Drug Development course in our BIOTrain program 13
