3 Service Overview Many businesses have large numbers of mobile workers that require access to information within the enterprise to carry out their work. Almost all public sector organisations have workers that travel or work away from offices and can benefit from mobile access to information. Mobile access to data and enterprise systems can fundamentally transform the way these people work, but this requires Apps that are tailored to the way they work, the business processes and communication. Capgemini can create Apps for mobile devices that are tailored to the particular requirements of a business. The facilities in these apps can include workflow, case management, scheduling, documentation and messaging between users etc. Information can be stored in enterprise systems or private/cloud services. Apps can be developed for particular platforms such as Apple IOS, Android or Windows Mobile, alternatively they can be developed to work across multiple mobile device types and operating systems. Our Development Enterprise Apps Mobile Workforce Service provides Business Analysis, Development, Testing, Design / Consultation, and Service Management in support of the design and implementation of Cloud based services. Business Need As employees are increasingly working out of the office either travelling, home working or offsite, they can be disconnected from the enterprise information. This means they may have to visit offices purely to access and update information. Mobile devices and Apps can provide access to the information employees need to efficiently undertake their work tasks without visiting the office. There are many Apps available off the shelf but these are rarely targeted at the specific tasks, information that many public sector employees deal with on a regular basis. Custom Apps help can give the user a good experience and most access by enabling the right information to be presented and collected in an optimised workflow. There are multiple ways to provide access to information and business logic from mobile devices, such as: Mobile Web Web site s optimised or responsive to mobile devices; Native Apps Apps developed in native code for specific devices (e.g. Objective C for Apple devices); Hybrid Apps Apps coded in web technologies such as html5 that are run in a container to make them look like an App. Travelling and out of office workers by their nature are mobile and travel through areas that might have gaps in mobile connectivity. This intermittent communications dictates that Apps have to be able to be used in offline mode, with synchronisation of data and messaged when connectivity is re-established. This generally precludes mobile web and favours native Apps, especially in an environment where the enterprise can control the device types that are used to run the Application. Page 3

4 Why Capgemini The Capgemini Digital Government is the cross-discipline unit that Capgemini has created to provide a range of services, to help support the Government s commitment to deliver world class digital public services that place the citizen s needs at the centre and help the Cabinet Office achieve cost savings through its digital by default agenda. Capgemini has been working in the area of Cloud services delivery in the public and private sector for over twenty years, helping to transform hosted platform services into managed services and enabling the integration of standardised Cloud platforms into an existing organisation. Our Approach Capgemini can offer design and development services for enterprise mobile apps such as mobile specific user experience (UX) consultancy, design and implementation. Good user experience and tailoring the App to the business process is a major part of Apps for mobile workers, they are often in moving vehicles and have to perform operations whilst engaging with the customers. To enable us to get the design and user experience right, Capgemini can mock up the App before investing resources in coding it and shadow the end user to help optimise the flow in the App. Capgemini can integrate mobile Apps to client back end systems and data, this can be done directly to services exposed by the backend or by using a mobile platform if there is a complex integration to multiple back end systems. The development of the App is only part of a complete lifecycle that Capgemini can provide from initial visioning of solution through to delivery and management of the App within the enterprise. Pricing This service is priced in accordance with the SFIA Rate Card attached. Capgemini can also provide offshore resources at reduced rates where appropriate.
