5 & Eat Mor Chikin For the last five years, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has earned significant tax credits thanks to a partnership with Atlanta Technical College. It has been a pleasure working with Atlanta Tech over the years, says Glenn Hewitt of the financial planning division of Chick-fil-A, Inc. And this program has certainly benefited our company. About the Georgia Retraining Tax Credit Does your company invest in employee training for new equipment, software, or technology? If so, you may be eligible for a government tax credit for up to fifty percent of the cost of each approved training program. The Georgia Retraining Tax Credit program is one of those hidden gems that many companies in Fulton and Clayton Counties are learning about with the help of Atlanta Tech. Created to foster business growth in Georgia as well as to enhance employee productivity, the statewide tax credit helps companies offset the costs of implementing new technology through employee retraining in qualified areas such as technology, software or operating systems. With many businesses unaware of the program s existence or the most efficient ways of identifying eligible retraining programs within their organizations, Atlanta Tech s retraining tax credit experts can help mid- to large-sized companies identify such programs. Before a company can apply for the credits, its retraining program must be approved by Atlanta Technical College. The retraining tax credit can be used to reduce or eliminate Georgia income tax liability. Unused credits can be carried forward 10 years. These credits can be combined with other tax credits. Success Story: Serving Those Who Have Served Two years ago the Veterans Administration contacted Atlanta Technical College about much-needed training for veterans. The Division of Economic Development responded quickly to offer Certified Forklift Operator classes. Since then nearly 200 veterans, many of whom were homeless when they started the class, have taken advantage of the program and found gainful employment. Flying High Through Customized Training Atlanta Tech recently designed a ten-week plumbing program for facilities maintenance employees at Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport. The training was so successful that discussions are underway for the college to provide carpentry training as well. 3
