Excellent Results - 100% of patients achieved driving standard or better, 95.6% achieving 20/20 or better 3 months after treatments.* What is laser vision correction? Your eye functions like a camera to focus a clear image on the retina at the back of the eye. When the shape of the cornea at the front of the eye and the shape of the eye itself are not perfectly aligned, your sight may be blurred or distorted. These imperfections are called refractive errors. This is why you need glasses or contact lenses to sharpen the focus. The aim of the laser eye surgery is to simply change the shape of your corneas to correct the refractive errors. To correct your short sight (myopia) the cornea needs to be made flatter. To correct your long sight (hyperopia), the centre of the cornea needs to be made steeper and to correct astigmatism the laser changes the shape of the cornea in different areas. With today s advanced technology, these simple procedures only take a few minutes. BENEFITS Total elimination of dependency on glasses for distance vision. The ability to play sports unhindered. Improved appearance and confidence. * Reference: Extract from article published in Ophtalmology Times October 1st 2010 pg. 51, based on eyes with low to moderate myopia treated CustomVue Wavefront procedure using the VISX STAR S4 IR excimer laser. 3

A New Era - 30 million can t be wrong Laser Eye Surgery has been performed since 1983 and over 30 million procedures have been carried out worldwide on people from every walk of life including many celebrities and sports stars, such as golfer Tiger Woods, Friends star Courtney Cox, Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and entrepreneur Richard Branson. At Optilase we use the world s most advanced VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser which is the safest and most precise laser in the world as per FDA trial results in the USA. The Visx Laser incorporates active eye trackers, variable beam technology and iris recognition to reshape the cornea with extreme precision in a matter of seconds. Laser vision correction can treat short sightedness, long sightedness and astigmatism. Your eyes are as individual as you are and we can only assess if you are suitable for laser vision correction after you have attended a free consultation. It is only after this consultation and after assessing your expectations and lifestyle, that the Laser Optometrist can determine if you are a suitable candidate. At Optilase, our package of care includes life-time care as well as access to our 24-hour help line post surgery. Any surgical procedure can have potential risks or complications. These can vary from mild light sensitivity (or glare) to dryness of the eye which can last several weeks. Some people may require additional treatment or enhancement. A detailed description and explanation of all benefits and risks will be provided at your consultation. 8
The Process At Optilase, in order to provide you with the best possible laser vision correction, we have invested heavily in the latest technologies allowing us to bring you the best available choice of surgery options. We provide both LASIK and LASEK treatments and with each, offer you the choice of either Premier or market leading Advanced CustomVue Wavefront Treatment. LASIK LASIK (Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis) or IK for short, is the most common procedure and the treatment of choice for patients with higher prescriptions. This process works by reshaping the cornea at the front of your eye by creating a tiny flap, using the laser to make the necessary adjustments to your eye and then replacing the flap. The key advantages of IK are that it requires less time for recovery and most patients report feeling very little discomfort. LASEK LASEK (Laser-Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratectomy) or EK, is available for patients for whom IK is not a suitable procedure. The decision is usually made in consultation with your Optilase Optometrist or Surgeon. The procedure uses the laser to reshape the cornea but first the skin on the eye is loosened and then gently shaped before the laser sculpts the necessary adjustments. While the results are similar to IK, the recovery time can be a few days longer and a clear protective contact lens needs to be worn for up to 5 days after the procedure. With both the IK and EK treatments, you have the choice of either Premier or Advanced CustomVue Wavefront Treatment. With IK treatment is now possible to avail of the most advanced IntraLase technology. Premier Treatment is based on your existing prescription and the eye exam carried out by your Optometrist or Surgeon before surgery. The Premier Treatment provides results equivalent to your current sight prescription for the majority of patients. The Advanced CustomVue WaveFront Treatment takes advantage of the latest advances in laser technology. Your eye is first scanned by our wavescan to generate an incredibly accurate map of your cornea. With this additional information your Surgeon can make even more refined adjustments resulting in even greater results. The benefits of Advanced WaveFront are that it delivers the most individualised method of treatment available. 99.9% of our patients achieve 20/20 or better without glasses or contact lenses after having the Advanced WaveFront Treatment.* * Reference: Extract from article published in Ophtalmology Times October 1st 2010 pg. 51, based on eyes with low to moderate myopia treated CustomVue Wavefront procedure using the VISX STAR S4 IR excimer laser. 9
IntraLase What is IntraLase? IntraLase is a new and revolutionary approach to creating your LASIK flap - the thin flap of tissue that the Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon folds back in order to perform your LASIK procedure. This treatment can only be performed using the IntraLase Laser. Traditionally, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons have used an instrument called a microkeratome for the creation of LASIK flaps. The microkeratome is a high precision surgical instrument that moves across the eye, creating the flap. IntraLase, by contrast, enables your Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to create the individualised LASIK flap without using the microkeratome device. How does it work? 1) With IntraLase, tiny pulses of laser light, a quadrillionth of a second each, pass harmlessly through the outer portion of your cornea and form a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of your eye. 2) The exact dimensions of this layer of bubbles are determined by your Surgeon based on what s best for your eye, and are computer controlled for maximum precision. The IntraLase flap creation process takes about 15 to 20 seconds per eye and a total of 10 minutes for the entire LASIK procedure. 3) When it s time for your LASIK procedure to be performed, your Surgeon easily lifts the flap to apply the LASIK procedure. When LASIK is complete, a flap created using the IntraLase Method is able to lock back into place. Your eye then begins to heal rapidly. Is it right for me? IntraLase delivers outstanding results - it has been shown to improve outcomes for more patients. Patients may experience faster recovery, fewer LASIK flap-related complications and fewer induced higher order aberrations. Higher order aberrations may contribute to visual disturbances such as glare and halos. Take the next step No matter how ready you are for life without lenses, the decision to have LASIK is a big one. You want to know for certain that you re getting a safe and trusted treatment. That s exactly why Optilase offers LASIK with IntraLase - the most advanced procedure in the world. 10
The Service At Optilase, our primary concern is caring for you and your eyes. That s why our team have tailor made our service with you in mind. Our flexible opening hours, including weekends and late evenings, allow us to tailor your assessment, consultation and surgery to fit into your busy schedule. Although laser vision correction with Optilase is quick and relatively pain free, over the following 6 to 12 months post surgery we will monitor your progress and you should expect to attend our clinic on a regular basis. Initial Free Pre-Operative Consultation Consultation Surgery Post-Operative Care 1- Free Initial Consultation When you first come visit us in Optilase, you will meet one of our team of friendly Laser Optometrists who will carry out a full eye health exam and assess whether you are a successful candidate for laser vision correction. Your Laser Optometrist will also answer any questions you may have regarding laser vision correction, explain the different options available to you and also talk you through the procedure itself. The consultation will take roughly one hour and can be arranged for a time suitable to you. At the end of your visit, a pre-operative consultation with one of our Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeons can be scheduled. 2- Pre-Operative Consultation During this appointment you will meet your Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon who can further familiarise you with the details of the surgery and answer any additional questions you may have. Your Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon will carry out a further eye examination and give final approval for surgery. If you then choose to avail of surgery, you will meet one of our clinic administration team who will take you through the necessary paperwork and payment. 11
3- Surgery Your surgery will normally be carried out within one week of your pre-operative consultation. On the day, you should bring a friend or family member to accompany you. When you arrive at the clinic you will be greeted by one of the Optilase team who will ensure that you are cared for throughout your visit. You will then meet the team, including your surgeon, nurses and technician, who will be with you for the duration of your surgery. The procedure itself will only take a few minutes. Your team will be there to help and support you all the way through. After your surgery you will move to our recovery area where your surgeon will carry out a brief post-operative examination on your vision. Once ready, your nurse will explain the full aftercare routine you need to follow. After this, you will receive a full information pack, including 24 hour aftercare contact number. Your entire visit will be approximately two hours. 4- Post-Operative Care As part of our commitment to your ongoing care, Optilase s aftercare programme will include on average 6 visits to the clinic over a 12 month period. All post-operative appointments with our Laser Optometrists will include a thorough eye examination. All appointments should take no longer than 20 minutes of your time. After you are discharged from our aftercare programme you should require no further visits, but should you have any concerns, Optilase are proud to offer Lifetime Care. Should your vision regress and you need laser vision correction at any time in the future, there will be no extra cost. IMPORTANT It is essential to leave your soft contact lenses out for at least one week prior to your first assessment as they can affect your corneal measurements. Bring your old glasses or contact lens prescription with you. Your assessment may last for up to an hour. During the assessment you will have drops put in your eyes which may blur your vision. We advise our patients not to drive for 6-8 hours after the assessment. 12 Time to take your first step... Book your Free Consultation at Optilase today Call or visit our website:

Questions & Answers Is laser vision correction effective? One year after treatment, over 99% of people with low to moderate prescriptions who have their laser eye surgery performed at Optilase are able to pass a driver s license vision test without corrective lenses.* Can both eyes be treated at the same time? Yes, both eyes are treated on the same day. Is it painful? The procedure is performed using anaesthetic drops which numb the eyes. Most patients experience a slight degree of discomfort for a limited period. Is laser vision correction permanent? Yes, long term follow up studies indicate that after the healing process is complete, eyesight remains stable. Will I still need reading glasses? Laser vision correction cannot prevent the natural ageing changes within the eye and if you are over 40 years old, reading glasses may be required for near vision. Will my eyes look different? The day after LASIK surgery your eyes should be white and clear. The healing process can take 4-5 days with LASEK and during this time your eyes may appear slightly red. When can I return to work? Most LASIK patients can return to all normal activity within a few days. We do however advise LASEK patients to take a week off work. * Reference: Extract from article published in Ophtalmology Times October 1st 2010 pg. 51, based on eyes with low to moderate myopia treated CustomVue Wavefront procedure using the VISX STAR S4 IR excimer laser. 14
