1 The university specialises in providing opportunities to study the Christian faith in an evangelical, reformed, non-denominational context at Highland Theological College UHI in Dingwall. As a small specialist college, our staff and students get to know each other well, contributing to the family atmosphere and supportive learning environment. Students have access to a well-stocked library including some significant theological collections. They can also access a vast array of electronic resources as well as traditional book provision. Research lies at the heart of what it means to be a university and our theology staff bring their research expertise into the classroom where their teaching, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, is informed by and reflects their research specialisms. While our theology-related degrees are led by Highland Theological College UHI, students can also access them from a number of our other campuses across the region. Our library is one of the foremost theological libraries in Scotland housing collections including the Rutherford House library; William Temple collection from the Rylands library; and Migne s Patrologia from Fort Augustus Abbey library. 2 Theological Studies BA (Hons) This Honours degree gives students a broad knowledge and understanding of the main disciplines of Christian theology, and the personal and professional capabilities required for a variety of ministries, callings or general employment. Students read a wide range of theology across all main traditions and have access to special collections in the university s impressive library at Highland Theological College UHI. A work placement enables students to relate their acquired theoretical knowledge to real-life situations. Visiting speakers gives students a flavour of the different areas of service that may be of interest for future employment or volunteering, for example, churches; hospital chaplaincy; army chaplaincy; and mission agencies in the UK and abroad. Scottish History/ History and Theology BA (Hons) These joint honours degrees are led by expert staff at Highland Theological College UHI and the university s Centre for History, both of which possess recognised expertise in their respective fields. The history element provides a thorough examination of Scotland s place in history in relation to Britain, Europe and the wider world. The theology element provides for the study of all the main traditions. Students benefit from access to recognised experts on the academic staff of both disciplines, whose own research interests are reflected in the modules they teach. These joint honours degrees provide students with a distinctive study opportunity combining two different but complementary subjects. 3 Philosophy, Politics and Economics BA (Hons) This interdisciplinary Honours degree is aimed at developing the leaders of the future, giving students the opportunity to study the three most influential realities impacting people s lives. Students explore and gain an understanding of the key themes within each of the three fields. The economics element examines how economic agents (individuals, households and businesses) and markets behave and interact, and are influenced by aspects such as economic growth and unemployment. The politics element examines the different ways in which politics shapes our lives and is organised differently around the world. The philosophy element helps students to think logically and coherently, to construct compelling arguments which enhances their ability to analyse critical assumptions and theories. Course modules include: study skills for theology; biblical theology; introduction to systematic theology; introduction to the history of Christianity; and introduction to pastoral theology. Students can use the knowledge and experience gained from the course to go on to various forms of Christian work including youth work and missionary societies. No formal qualifications are required for entrance into the course. The course is particularly suitable for those who do not yet have the necessary qualifications for commencing studies at degree level.

4 Profiles Talking about the BA (Hons) Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Dr Innes Visagie, Programme Leader, says: The PPE is an inter - and multi-disciplinary programme and is significant for pursuing a career in fields such as economics, business, and public services; including the civil and diplomatic services and local government. The degree is also useful for those intending further studies in law, journalism, social work and education with the aim of pursuing a career in any of the related fields. Len Cazaly, lecturer at, is a graduate of the BA (Hons) Theological Studies degree and of our Masters in Theology, so is well placed to help students through their studies at Highland Theological College UHI. Len is an active researcher, as well as being involved in church life as an elder, and holds the office of Reader in the Church of Scotland.

5 Profile Ailsa Fyfe is in her third year of the BA (Hons) Theological Studies. She explains: Theology is constantly testing me as it covers such a wide range of aspects, from history to the Old and New Testaments, languages and counselling...it s also fantastic coming out of a class and continuing your topic of discussion with your peers in further detail. Demonstrating that teaching doesn t stop in the classroom, Ailsa also enjoys the twiceweekly hour-long worship and mission talk sessions. She also highlighted the facilities and a close-knit community: The facilities are great for theology; we have a library that is so unbelievably well-stocked and equally well-manned by our enthusiastic and knowledgeable librarian. Everyone on campus is friendly, talkative and eager to help each other. During her studies Ailsa has also been involved in the university s students association which has given her the opportunity to meet other students across the partnership.
