20 Example of European agri-food companies that used our services GREEN GOURMET (DK) Step in Japan 2014 Exporting Danish up-market food specialties to Japan. Using the Step in Japan service gave them the chance further investigate the possibilities of establishing an office in Japan. Delicatessen Snailex (CZ) Step in Japan 2015 Looking to access a narrow niche in the Japan market for fine gourmet products (snail meat with antiosteoporosis effect) they engage in a first step to identify and contact relevant gourmet / fine foods import & distribution companies in Japan. MURFATLAR (RO) Step in Japan 2014 Wine producer and distributor has used the SIJ service (desk, presentation room, meeting room) in order to test the Japanese market. A number of distribution contracts had been signed. By adding Japan to its export list, Murfatlar expects to increase its exports in China and the rest of Asia DEBAILLEUL (BE) DBP training 2007 Chocolaterie and patisserie in Brussels. Japan is the Company s largest single export market. CITROMIL (ES) DBP training 2008 Citromil is one of Spain's leading lemon processors. In 2008 a company representative attended the Distribution Business Practices (DBP) course. Not long after the DBP programme, Citromil succeeded in concluding its first shipment to a Japanese customer (after 3 years of preparations) BARONE (IT) HRTP Training Small family-run dairy factory which, before my joining HRTP, had no experience at all with exporting. Now it found a Japanese distributor and exports to Japan.
21 Example of promising sectors: Organic Food Market in Japan Japanese organic food market is still in its nascent stages. About 45% of the global organic food market is in Europe and about 45% in the U.S while Japan representing just 2%. Considering concerns over food safety among Japanese consumers, as well as the huge size of the existing Japanese food market, the growth potential is significant. There is a trend in which organic is considered fashionable in Japan. The following areas can be considered to be potential for growth: Food Service: ranging from family-oriented chains to fashionable cafes, and to upscale restaurants. Even major fast food chains such as MOS Burger (a Japanese hamburger chain) are following this his trend. Internet Retail: T here are many on-line stores who deal with imported products and organic and natural products Gift Retail: Major Japanese retailers hold special sales events to cater to customers wishing to send gifts to business contacts, clients, respected elders, etc: The majority of these gifts consist of high quality imported food items sold at premium prices. - With a food retail market worth over $300 billion per annum, there is plenty of long-term growth potential in Japan for organic and natural food products.
22 Example of promising products : Olive Oil Market in Japan The consumption in Japan has increased 10X in the last 20 years. In 2014 Japan imported 60% more than China. Still, there is a lot of growth potential. Italian and Mediterranean food is very popular and the olive oil became a daily ingredient in many Japanese kitchens. In Japan there are a lot of sommeliers of olive oil who can appreciate high quality products
