3 Meet Your Support Team Tiers II and III are Standing By to Help You! You have spoken to them many times, but never in person. Wouldn t it be nice to be able to put a face with the voice on the other end of the conversation? Introducing the Electronic Service Tools Current Product Support Team! A highly trained and effective force of dedicated professionals all working together to provide top notch product support. Their number one job is to resolve customer issues as expeditiously as possible, minimize downtime and drive improvements in future releases of INSITE. When you call the INSITE help desk, you will connect with one of the Tier II technical specialists. Seated in the front row of the photo above, from left to right are: Betty, Joe, Wade and Terry. These are your frontline support staff members whose combined experience totals over 40 years. They have seen it all and are eager to tackle even the trickiest of problems. On those rare occasions when they are unable to find a resolution to an issue, they will escalate the ticket to a Tier III support engineer. Standing behind the Tier II team is: John, Patrick, Erika, and Ralph our 3rd party adapter specialist. In the fast paced world of trucking, whether long haul or short, time is money. The INSITE support team understands this and is sensitive to the pressures of those whose responsibility it is to keep the fleet on the road and out of the shop. Call us if you need us at ! 3
4 INSITE Preview and licensing When launching INSITE for the first time, you will probably not notice anything different. Indeed, the interface is pretty much the same interface you are already familiar with so you will not have to worry about learning any new layouts or commands. But, that is not to say that there is nothing new. In fact, in many ways, INSITE is a dramatic departure from previous versions especially when it comes to licensing. Here are a few of the changes: 1. An internet connection is now required in order to activate and re-validate licenses. 2. Licenses will be re-validated every 90 days. This will occur in the background if an internet connection is present. 3. INSITE will be supported ONLY on the Windows 7 or Windows 8 platform. Windows XP and Vista will no longer be supported. One of the biggest changes, and sure to be one of the most welcomed, will be the ability of the local shop administrator to repair and transfer licenses without having to go through the regional distributor. This will save time and frustration. In addition, using the Cummins License Configuration tool will provide unprecedented flexibility in purchasing and assigning licenses for all shop PCs. The Cummins License Configuration Tool 4
5 INSITE Preview and licensing The obvious question for some will be, Does my computer have to be connected to the internet all the time? The answer is no. Internet connectivity is only required when activating licenses, repairing licenses (corrupt/back dated), transferring licenses and re-validating licenses. Being connected to the internet at all times just limits the prompting INSITE will do as the system gets close to re-validation or expiration time (30, 15, 10 and 1 day remaining). Transferring and repairing licenses has never been so easy. The INSITE License Configuration tool can connect to the server and repair issues without the need to call your distributor. If the hard drive fails, the user can replace the drive and then recover his/her passwords online through the LCT recover/repair license function. When it comes to transferring a license between computers, users can release a license back to the server if they have a QuickServe Online (QSOL) account or back to a License Key which can then be used to activate another PC. If you take a quick look at the picture of the License Configuration tool on the previous page, you will notice a button labeled Offline Operations. What might those be? While in offline mode (not connected to the internet), you can activate licenses, repair licenses (corrupt/back dated) and transfer licenses. However, there still needs to be at least one machine with LCT and an internet connection so that files can be sent back and forth from an INSITE Registration Administrator (Cummins/Distributor). These files can then be taken to the PC that has no internet access and used to activate the tool. Any portable storage device can be used for this step, whether a USB Jump Drive, Android Phone mass storage function, etc. There are many reasons to reccommend INSITE to a user and chief among them is all the new flexibility in the licensing model. 5
6 OS Support Changes Tip of the Month Windows XP and Vista Support Dropped Update Manager and INSITE Microsoft stopped supporting their XP platform several year ago. Technically speaking, Cummins INSITE technical team dropped support of XP last year, although we have continued to work with users who are still using XP and Vista. However, beginning with INSITE 8.0.0, technical support for Windows XP and Vista will be discontinued permanently and will no longer be offered even on a case by case basis. INSITE users who wish to upgrade to version will need to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8 in order to continue using INSITE. Further information about this and other INSITE questions is available on the INSITE webpage at: INSITE.CUMMINS.COM The latest version of the Cummins Inc. Update Manager is 3.3 and is installed automatically upon launching the Update Manager using the Internet option if it is not already installed. It is important to understand that this version of Update Manager does NOT support INSITE versions 7.5.X or earlier. In order to take advantage of the latest Update Manager and retain full functionality and support for your installed version of INSITE, please install INSITE version 7.6.X. 7 Product Announcement Installation DVDs INSITE Release Check Your Version INSITE is currently in pre-production field testing and is due to be available on the INSITE webpage mid-july. There are still a large number of users in the field who are using an outdated version of the INSITE installation DVD. Currently, there are about 100 testers who are actively exploring INSITE in the United States, Canada and abroad, searching for anything that might have been overlooked. All users should have version or newer in their shops and readily available if needed for repair or reinstall. Although it is possible to work with the earlier DVD, it adds considerable down time to the process of getting the user back up and running again. There are a number of high profile bug fixes in this new version of INSITE, including a glitch that prevented the Throttle Actuator test from being executed, and an unfortunate tendency to prohibit the creation of DML log files after long duration logging sessions. In addition, there has been a rash of errors when running the EGR/Turbo test during the last several months. This too has been fixed once and for all.
