2 Outsourcing: What Two organizations may enter into a contractual agreement involving an exchange of services and payments. Outsourcing is said to help firms to perform well in their core competencies and mitigate shortage of skill or expertise in the areas where they want to outsource, Outsourcing: What In the early 21st century, businesses increasingly outsourced to suppliers outside their own country, sometimes referred to as offshoring or offshore outsourcing 2

3 Offshoring: What Offshore: relocation of (part of) activities. Usually done for cost cutting or legal reasons. Two forms: An organization outsources some of it s activities to a service provider in other countries Set up service operations in other countries For more than 15 years already Service providers from different parts of the world History Industry Statistics from 2005 Global IT spend expected to rise to $3.3 trillion in 2005 Gartner confidently predicts 40% of an IT budget is spent on testing activity. That s an incredible $1.3 trillion Spending on Test Tools is forecast to be $2.6 billion by 2005 Software bugs cost the US. $60 billion per year 64% borne by end-users, 36% borne by developers and vendors.
