Kaiserian Johnk40and8@yahoo.com From the Grand Chef A big thank you to Voiteur 1571 for the work they did on the Wreck. We now have 5 new Voyageurs. Great job to all that helped. Southlands Dixie is upon us. Please come and where ever you can. We as the host Grand Voiture are hosting the other 10 Grand Voitures in the Southlands Dixie. While you are here ask what the other Grands are doing to have fun and keeping the Voiture alive. Without at least one Voyageur from every Local attending Grand functions you are missing out. I ask you how many of you Voyageurs have never been to a Grand event or a Wreck? It is up to the sponsors to see that they get the new Voyageur involved in all aspects of the LaSociete. So get with it, get yourself and a new Voyageur involved and have fun, it isnt that hard once you get the hang of it. Now get out and have some fun, raise a little you know what and laugh. Rod Appleby H C rgappleby@yahoo.com Grand Correspondant The Grande du Florida Grand Promenade will be held June at the Quality Inn, 6325 US Highway 27 North, Sebring, FL The phone No. is The name of the hotel use to be the Highlands Inn. It is the same Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 1

2 hotel where we held the Petite in January but has changed hands and will be remodeled. The rooms are only $49.99 plus tax a night. Hopefully every Voiture in Florida will be represented. Offer a notion at your next Locale Promenade to pay for an ad in the program book. Place an ad for yourself or your business or pay for a booster. The Host Voiture is Voiture 899. Let s help them by showing our support and attending. Offer a notion that your Voiture contribute toward the expense of sending a car load of your Voyageurs and Dames to attend the Promenade and Rendezvous. We will be electing the officers to lead Grand du Florida for the year at the Grand Promenade. No one is running for Commis Voyageur or the second Garde de la Porte at the present time. Any Voyageur in good standing and endorsed by their Voiture can run for any office. Have you honored a worthy Veteran with an invitation to become a Voyageur Militaire this month? When you sponsor that worthy Veteran into La Societe, you become a sponsor for life. It is your responsibility as a Sponsor for Life to insure that the new Voyageurs fulfill their obligation and if they aren t, to find out why. If they haven t paid their dues or haven t attended a Promenade in a while, find out why. We are into the time of year when we hold wrecks and initiate or new Voyageurs into La Societe. Article VIII of the Constitution of Grand du Florida: section 5: Each Voiture Locale shall be the judge of its own membership ; section 11: Voitures Locale shall obtain permission from the Grand Chef de Gare, through the Grand Voiture Office, for a wreck before proceeding with plans for a wreck. It is customary in Grande Voiture du Florida for the Regional Wreck Associations to invite the Grand Chef de Gare and the Grand Correspondant to attend the Wreck. According to protocol: Normally the Voiture (Locale) inviting the guest is responsible for payment of 40/8 registration fees, housing, and complimentary tickets for official functions, for guest and spouse. Refer to the Ritual & manual of Ceremonies, Chapter 5, Protocol and Courtesy. A flyer, advertising the Wreck can be placed in the Grand Bulletin by ing it to the Grand le Editeur and a copy to the Grand Correspondant for approval. Mail a Voiture check for $25.00 per page, per issue, to the Grand Correspondant. Let s do our part in helping Grande Voiture du Florida improve and grow. We are the fun and honor society of the American Veteran All the way for La Societe John A. Kaiserian 365 W. Olympia Street Hernando, Fl Johnk40and8@yahoo.com Grand Advocat There were no submitted changes to the Grand Constitution at Petite Promenade in Sebring. There were three Voitures requesting changes to their Local Constitution and By-lays in order to revise them for various reasons. I received submissions from Hillsborough County V-199, Volusia County V-294 and Okaloosa County V All were approved by Grand du Florida and sent to National for approval by the Avocat National. 3 Roland Jones Director Grand Protocol Grand Ritual Merci, Terry Lee Grand Conducteur The Emerald Coast Wreck held last month was extremely honored to have Chef de Chemin de Fer Pat Beamer in attendance and a good time was had by all, with five new Voyageurs Militaire initiated. This month, let s talk about protocol and the responsibility for a Wreck. During a Wreck it is the responsibility of the Grande Officers present to be familiar with, inspect and insure the initiatory work is conducted within the procedures outlined in the Ritual. It is always a good idea to practice each Ritual prior to a Wreck. The experience of our PGs is enriched when each stage is conducted smoothly and confidently. If not done correctly, Grande and National Officers (Sous Directeur or higher) in attendance, are required to stop any violations of initiatory work considered not in the best interest of La Societ e. In the absence of any of the above, the senior elected Locale Officer in attendance holds the responsibility. Bob Shuping shup1300@comcast.net Grand Chef de Train MEMBERSHIP*MEMBERSHIP*MEMBERSHIP Florida is running at 23rd Place in Membership, with 76.00% renewals. Although we are at goal, we still have a long way to go to reach 100%. Let's get out there and "BEAT THE BUSHES". Enjoyed being with everyone at Petite, and look forward to be4ng with those who attend the Emerald Coast Wreck in Pensacola in February, and the First Coast Wreck in St. Augustine, in March. Programs! Programs! One of the things I like about the Forty and Eight is all the good our Programs do. That is if they are worked by our members and if they are understood. In our Wreck Guide in the 3 rd Degree the explanation of our Programs are optional. Really! Let s rethink this! Can we afford to not explain our Programs to our newest Voyageurs? I know we are sick of hearing that we need new members and pay your dues. I think working our Programs and making them prosperous is just as important, for without them we are nothing more than another social club. Another point I have heard so many folks who have been asked to take a Chairman or Directeur positions of a Program ask what the Program was all about or what they have to do? I believe if the Voiture and Cabane are working the Programs this would not be so difficult of a question to answer. Let s get going on our Programs and I believe membership will improve. Time will soon be here and those reports need to be in the hands of the Directors so they can get their reports to National. If possible you can bring them to Southland Dixie in April. Hopefully you have the scholarship applications in the High Schools in your area. Would be great to have someone from Florida receive one of these. John Garvey 4975 N. Celosia Ter. Beverly Hills, FL h c Voiture Activities Aaron Lance 3452 Old Tampa Hwy Lakeland, FL aaron.lance@sitechinc.net Special Awards First I want to thank Grand Chef Ron. Thanks for asking to step in and help with Special Awards Program. Please remember that when we work Special Awards numerous good things happen. Our community and the public see us in a positive way. We show respect and honor to those who deserve it. Plus, we will be exposed to potential members. No matter where your locale is, there are Police, Fire, EMS and unsung Hero's around all of us. Just go out and talk to them. As Veterans, we know how important it is when someone say's "Thanks, for all you do". Let's go out and show others just how much we really care. Please get your reports and nominations to me before May 1st. By doing this we not only show others who we are and that we care; but show ourselves what an Honor it is to be a 40 & 8er. If You have any questions, call or or dartman0322@gmail.com Remember together we divide the task and double the rewards. Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 4

5 Howard Hoover AMERICANISM The year is starting to wind down so it s getting to be very important that you start gathering information for your Americanism Consolidated Report. I need to receive this by May 15 th. Also if you haven t received your Americanism pins yet I still have a few. I will be at the Northeast Florida First Coast Regional Wreck on March 21-22, 2014 in St Augustine so come find me and purchase one or two. The pins are only $3.00. I hope to see some of you there. Once again, I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting the Americanism program. Now just take the time to claim the credit. Call or write if you have any questions or problems. Dianne M Thibodeau 1378 Amelia Ave SW Palm Bay, FL diannethib@bellsouth.net Child Welfare National Child Welfare Pins! Some of you did not get the 2014 pins because the pins were SOLD OUT by Oct/ Nov Normally I would still have pins well into the New Year, but the 2014 pins were Very Popular and if you didn t get your pins early, you didn t get pins. I am sorry that happened, and one way to prevent it from happening again would be to preorder your pins. That would help me determine how many pins to order, and ensure you get the pins you want. The 2014 Child Welfare Pin design was two angles facing each other, made in Pewter, the 2015 pins will be the same design, the only difference will be they are made of Copper, and the year, (2015). The Pins will go on sale the first of June You can me your order beginning immendiately and I will have your pins ready for pick up at Grand Promenade in June If you can t make it to Grande. I will mail the pins to you. I don t have a firm price yet, but I am pretty sure they will be $3.00 ea. If you have any questions, call or me and I will do my best to answer your questions. Not much to tell about Russell Home, they are still waiting on Permits, I will let you know as I receive ant information on the demolition/construction of the new Russell Home. As always, remember,a they have two Thrift Stores, and have every-day needs of just about everthing you use in your own home. The Annual Boggy Creek trip with be on March 20th this year, bring your donations and be there at 1:30 pm for a full tour of the facility. Call Mary Jones for more information. Don Summers 7700 Waunatta Ct. Winter Park Fl, Home Cell donlsummers@embarqmail.com Youth Sports Voyageurs - Time to be seriously thinking about reports. Please, in my hands by May 31 More activity in Youth Sports has become apparent in our Grand this year. I hope that means more reports. Rising costs in equipment and insurance have made participation in Youth Sports almost impossible for some families and this is where we can really help. Any donation your Voiture can make really helps these kids. Larry Pink 6153 W Pine Cir, Crystal River, FL MnLsPlace@aol.com Nurses Training Grand Voiture du Florida Bulletin Page 5

7 are over 40 Locals in Florida, as far as I know right now there are only a handful that have sent in to Grand the name and information on their Chef and Correspondant. We can not work our programs as well as we would like if we can not contact all of our membership. Please aid us to do the best we can by sending that information into the Grand. It is in our Constitution and By-laws that every Local provide that information. Directure Grand VAVS HERITAGE CORNER (March 1952) UN Forces Retake Seoul Korea On March 14, 1952, United Nations Forces led by the U.S. Eight Army recaptured Seoul South Korea. The Eighth took the offensive on January 25, and the entire UN command mounted the powerful attack known as Operation Killer on February 21. Under pressure of superior firepower, the Chinese slowly withdrew from South Korea. By April 22 UN forces had occupied positions slightly north of the 38th parallel along a line that, with minor variations, remained stationary for the rest of the war. Meanwhile, on April 11, Gen. MacArthur, who had publicly advocated a very aggressive military strategy that differed from the president s policies, had been relieved of his command by PresidentTruman. Under his successor, Lt. Gen. Matthew Ridgway ( ), for the next two years the UN forces engaged mainly in a series of probing actions known as the active defense.
