So to satisfy both the local residents and the bar-goers the trend has often developed in the form of live acoustic sets between 7pm and 9.30pm, and has become known as the spritz 1. 9 Through Woman s eye: photography a conscience of the world From September 11 at Casa dei Tre Oci 25 photographers, all women Fulvio Bianconi at Venini s From September 13th to January 10th 2016 The programme of exhibitions devoted to the history of the Venini glassware company continues organized by Le Stanze del Vetro. The exhibition is dedicated to Fulvio Bianconi ( ), innovative graphic designer and creator, who designed after World War II sophisticated models, characterized by strong colors. His works sum up the fabulous 50s, and led Bianconi to become an icon of Murano glassmaking of that period. Le Stenze del Vetro is a cultural project and exhibition space launched by Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stiftung, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, in Venice. On the right: Vasi a macchie in vetro trasparente pagliesco con decori policromi, The Madonna di Pontassieve by Fra Angelico and the Lod mosaic Until the 28th of September, within the exhibition of A Guest at the Palace, set in The Palazzo Cini Gallery at San Vio, it will be possible to view the acclaimed Madonna di Pontassieve by Fra Angelico, an art work dating from approximately 1435 (see picture on the right). From the third week of September till the 15th of November, for the five hundredth anniversary of the birth of Daniele Barbaro ( ), the second floor will host I ritratti di Daniele Barbaro di Tiziano and Veronese a Palazzo Cini, arriving from the Museum del Prado of Madrid and from Amsterdam s Rijksmuseum. Additionally, a magnificent goauche by the Venetian landscape painter Francesco Guardi, depicting a striking architectural whim (ca. 1760) and il Capriccio di Francesco Guardi from Musée Jacquemart- André. From the 9th of October 2015 until the 10th of January 2016, on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini presents the mosaic of Lod, discovered in 1996 near the homonymous Israeli town. The exhibition offers in exclusive the opportunity to admire an exceptional Roman mosaic, dating from the third century AD, a real archaeological gem. The Casa dei Tre Oci opens the exhibition THROUGH WOMAN S EYE, on Thursday 10 September The exhibition venue on the island of Giudecca, is presenting about 300 photos considered and chosen to direct the gaze and the mind towards a world that speaks of diversity, responsibility, compassion and justice, until Sunday 8 December photographers,all women, from all over the world, all sensitive to grasping the very humanity, uniqueness, non-difference of the infinite variety of the subjects portrayed, with the aim of avoiding the fear of diversity. 25 stories, 25 singular looks at the world. On the occasion of the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia has chosen to invite artist Jimmie Durham from Arkansas, born in a Cherokee family. His works are mainly created with recycled materials, and they represent an ironic attack to Western culture. Durham s exhibition is held in Carlo Scarpa s restored area, the garden and the museum, creating a site-specific installation. His research on the meaning of the materials and the objects belonging to Venice tradition turns upside down the schemes of its tourist and trade development. 10 10 All the world s futures 56th International Art Exhibition until November 2015 The 56th International Art Exhibition entitled All the World s Futures, curated by Okwui Enwezor and organized by la Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta, is open to the public to Sunday, November 22th, 2015 at the Giardini della Biennale and at the Arsenale. 89 National Participations will be exhibiting in the historical Pavilions at the Giardini, at the Arsenale and in the city of Venice. The countries participating for the first time in the Exhibition are Grenada, Mauritius, Mongolia, Republic of Mozambique and Republic of Seychelles. Other countries are participating this year after years of absence: Ecuador (1966, then with the IILA), the Philippines (1964), and Guatemala (1954, then with the IILA). The Holy See will again be participating with an exhibition to be held at the Sale d Armi, in the spaces that the Biennale has renovated for new permanent pavilions. In the Beginning... the Word became flesh is the title chosen by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi (President of the Pontifical Council for Culture) for the Pavilion, which is curated by Micol Forti (Director of Contemporary Art Department of the Vatican Museums). 11 11 72 nd red carpet at Lido: the Venice film festival The 72nd Venice International Film Festival will run on Venice Lido from 2nd to 12th September 2015, directed by Alberto Barbera. This year, French director Bertrand Tavernier is the recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award of the Venice Film Festival. The decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, upon recommendation of the Director of the Venice Film Festival Alberto Barbera. A maestro of French cinema, Bernard Tavernier has presented two films in Competition at the Venice International Film Festival, Round Midnight in 1986 (which won an Oscar for Best Original Score and a Best Actor nomination for the American saxophonist Dexter Gordon) and the detective film L. 627 in Director Alfonso Cuarón (Y tu mamà también, Children of Men, Gravity) will chair the International Jury for the Competition of the 72nd Venice FF, which will award the Golden Lion for Best Film and the other official prizes. Cuarón has won two Oscars for Best Director and Best Film Editing for Gravity, the opening film of the 2013 Venice Film Festival, which won 7 Oscars in all. Elisa Sednaoui, international model and actress, will host the opening and closing nights of Venezia 72. Screening tickets will be available for purchase on the festival website and at the Lido ticket-offices during the Festival. Biennale Music section in October The 10-day programme from October 2nd to 11th of the 59th International Festival of Contemporary Music will feature 18 concerts presenting 31 new works, 16 of which will be world premiere performances. «The Festival will centre on the theme of memory writes director Ivan Fedele - in the various senses of the term, both as a perceptive/cognitive tool indispensable for a hermeneutic experience, and as recollection and a vivid revitalizing vestige of history in the contemporary age, bringing together eras distant in time but close in the essence of their thought and inspiration». Pierre Boulez, Georges Aperghis, Helmut Lachenmann, and Giuseppe Sinopoli: these names represent the highlights of the 59th Festival. There will be many composers from the newer generations on the programme, often unfamiliar to Italian audiences but frequently performed on international stages: Performing their works will be major European ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Recherche, Musikfabrik; recent companies such as the European Contemporary Orchestra and the Studio for New Music Moscow; the original wind quintet Slowind, the Lemanic Modern Ensemble, the Leonis quartet and the trio entitled to Josef Suk; and finally extraordinary performers such as the piano duo composed of the two Turkish sisters Ufuk and Bahar Dördüncü, and cellist Francesco Dillon with Emanuele Torquati on the piano. And two more pianists: Giuseppe Albanese, with a linear survey of Hungarian piano music from Liszt to Bartòk to Ligeti; and David Greilsammer, who relies on his virtuosity to activate a short-circuit between the arduous sonatas of Scarlatti and the new timbres of Cage s prepared keyboard.

De Fina 12 From the Pollock brothers to the art of Gaitonde Masterpieces of the 20th Century art at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection The Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents two groundbreaking exhibitions that pay tribute to the brothers Jackson and Charles Pollock. Through September 14 the museum hosts Charles Pollock: A Retrospective, the first exhibition in Italy and the first full retrospective of the painting of Charles Pollock, oldest brother of Jackson Pollock. The majority of the more than 120 paintings, sketches, drawings, photographs, and documents, some never before exhibited, are loaned by the Charles Pollock Archives, Paris, thanks to the artist s widow and daughter, Sylvia Winter Pollock and Francesca Pollock. A small number of works by Jackson Pollock, Thomas Hart Benton and a unique painting by Sanford Pollock complement Charles s early years in New York and Washington, shedding light on what amounted to a family enterprise studying to be artists of the Pollock family before World War II. Together with this exhibition, through November 16, 2015 the museum presents Jackson Pollock s Mural : Energy Made Visible. Curated by David Anfam, Senior Consulting Curator, Clyfford Still Museum, Denver, and a preeminent authority on Abstract Expressionism, this touring show focuses on Jackson Pollock s Mural (1943, University of Iowa Museum of Art, Iowa City), following its 18-month campaign of conservation and cleaning at the Getty Conservation Institute, Los Angeles. The immensely dynamic Mural is the largest painting Pollock created and it has exerted a seismic impact on American art down to the present day. Commissioned in the summer of 1943 by Peggy Guggenheim for her New York townhouse, Mural established a new sense of scale and audacity for the Abstract Expressionist movement, anticipating the classic poured abstractions that Pollock would begin four years later. Setting Mural into context, the selection includes Pollock s newly-restored Alchemy, as well as works by the artist s wife Lee Krasner, David Smith and Robert Motherwell. Crucially, it also sheds new light on Pollock s relationship to such photographers of action and energy as Herbert Matter, Barbara Morgan, Aaron Siskind and Gjon Mili. Furthermore, from October 3, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents V. S. Gaitonde: Painting as Process, Painting as Life, the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to the work of celebrated Indian modern painter Vasudeo Santu Gaitonde ( ). As current scholarship revisits traditions of mid-20thcentury modern art outside of the Euro-American paradigm, Gaitonde s work presents an unparalleled opportunity to explore Indian modern art as it played out in the metropolitan centers of Bombay (now Mumbai) and New Delhi from the late 1940s through the end of the 20th century. Born in Nagpur, India, Gaitonde was an artist of singular stature, known to fellow artists and intellectuals, as well as to later generations of students and admirers, as a man of uncompromising artistic integrity of spirit and purpose. Gaitonde began developing a nonobjective style in the late 1950s, employing palette knives and paint rollers and often using torn pieces of newspaper to create floating, abstract forms. This move towards non-objectivity dovetails with the history of the Guggenheim Foundation and the global circulation of art and ideas. Above, top right: V. S.
