1 Using the Orbit Webcam & Skype to Video Conference Quick Steps for connecting to a conference call Note: When connecting on a Skype conference call, you will need either the Skype name or the address of the person you are connecting. They must have already created a Skype account. Search for the person using their Skype name or address (on the mac click the magnifying glass to start searching). Highlight the name in the list and click on add contact. This will open the Hello window where you Enter a message to introduce yourself. Send the message. When they accept your invitation, you will be able to see when they are online and call them by clicking on the green Video Call button. If you cannot hear the other person, click the Call Quality icon at the top of the Call window. To hang up; click on the red End Call button. Step by Step Guide for software installation: For a video call, each computer must have Skype installed and a video and audio source. Use your computer s built in webcam (if it has one) or check out a Video Conference Kit from MDG. Faculty can reserve a kit by calling x6058. The A/V Circulation Desk is located on the first floor of the Pilcher building Room 112. Each Video Conference Kit contains an Orbit webcam (which contains a mic) and is available for checkout from MDG s A/V circulation. A headphone is included in the Kit, but use is optional. Note: It is easier to install the webcam software first before installing Skype. If Skype is already installed, you must reconfigure the Skype account preferences after installing the webcam (so that the webcam is recognized). To reconfigure the preferences: For Mac: Open Skype and go to Skype > Preferences. Choose the name of the Orbit webcam under Audio Settings and Video Settings. For PC: Open Skype. Click on Tools > Options and adjust the Audio Settings and Video Settings to choose the Orbit webcam. The Orbit webcam is cross platform. On the PC, the motorized tracking automatically follows your every move. On the Mac, this webcam also has some tracking ability. There is no ON button for the webcam. It starts working when you connect it.

2 1 First, download the Orbit AF Software before connecting the webcam AND before downloading Skype. Go to: Click on the Downloads link. The directions below are for downloading the software. OR: Install the software using the Logitech Webcam Software disk included in the Video Conference Kit. 2 Choose your Operating System Add the pole for height 3 Next, Select File Choose 32 bit Read the Download Instructions. Click on Download Software. Click the Save File button when Would you like to save this file? dialog box appears. The Downloads dialog box appears. Double click on the downloaded software to open the webcam software. Choose OK when the Open Executable File? appears.

3 Click the Run button if a Security Warning appears. The file will extract automatically. 4 The Logitech Webcam Installation dialog box appears. Choose your language and agree to the license terms. 5 Plug In the webcam. The Connect dialog box appears Please plug your webcam into a USB port on your computer. Plug the cord into the computer. After connecting, you may need to wait a few moments before your computer detects the webcam. 6 7 The Camera Connected dialog box appears. Click the Next button The Logitech Vid Install webcam software dialog box appears. Choose No, thanks, I will choose what I want to install because you are installing Skype as the 3 rd party software.

4 8 Next, install Skype Installing Skype 1 Download Skype Download and install Skype. Follow the online instructions for downloading and installing on your operating system. The Skype interface will look different on the Mac and Pc but the available options are the same. To download, go to: Download for Mac: us/get skype/on yourcomputer/macosx/ Download for Windows: us/get skype/on yourcomputer/windows/ 2 3 MAC Install Quit Skype If you have an earlier version of Skype running, you need to quit it. Open the Downloads folder Click on the Skype file to extract and Drag the Skype.app to the Application folder icon. PC Install Run the Skype Setup application A window opens What you want to do with SkypeSetup.exe? Click on Run. Complete the Setup Wizard When the download has finished, the Skype Setup Wizard appears to guide your installation. Choose your language and click the I agree install button

5 4 5 Open Skype Double click on the same Application folder icon to see the list of Applications. Find Skype app and double click to open Skype. You can also drag the Skype icon to your dock and click to open. Launch Skype on a Mac Double click on the Skype icon to open. The Skype screen appears. Type in your Skype name and password If necessary, click on Don t have a Skype Name? to create your account name and password. Now, click the Sign In button and your Contacts list appears. Click on the person you want to contact. Now, click the green Video call button. Note: Click the plus sign at the bottom to manually add a person to the list. After installing Skype, a Create Account window opens. Follow the on screen instructions to create a Skype username (called a Skype Name) and a password. Write down the name and password for future reference. Next, enter your address and select the country and city you live in. Click sign in when you re finished. Launch Skype on a PC Choose Skype from the Windows > Start menu or click the Skype icon on the desktop The start up screen appears. In your Contact list, find the person you want to contact and click on them. Click the green Video call button. Note: You can also manually add your friend to your contacts list if you know their Skype name or address. On the other end, your friend will get a message asking them to approve you and add you to their Skype list. If they approve you, you re in.

6 6 Manually searching for Skype users Type a name or phone number in the address area. Click on Search for Skype Name Search the list provided to find your friend. Highlight and click the Add Contact button. Manually searching for Skype users To search for Skype users, click on the magnifying glass at the top of the Skype window. At this point, a new window will open allowing you to search for other Skype users by their Skype name, address, city, state, country, etc. When you find the other Skype user you are looking for, click add to add that user to your Skype buddy list. Mac and PC Next, send a message to the person you have added. When they accept your invitation you will be able to see when they are online ad call them. If the audio or video is not working in Skype: Make sure you have a webcam, it s plugged in, the software is installed and it is turned on. Mac: Open Skype and go to Skype > Preferences. Choose the name of the webcam under Audio Settings and Video Settings. PC: Open Skype. Click on Tools > Options and adjust the Audio Settings and Video Settings to choose the webcam.
