San Antni Cllege and its affiliated hspitals will train students in the diagnstic uses f x-ray as well as the technical skills t use x-ray equipment in bth labratry and clinical settings. The curses are designed t train students t perate x-ray equipment, assist in the diagnsis f disease, and t apply prper medical ethics. The student will learn the nature f radiatin, the principles f electricity, the structure f x-ray machines, and the peratin f a clinical x-ray department. Accreditatin Mt. 3 APPLICATION PROCESS Befre applying t Radilgic Technlgy Prgram students must cmplete the fllwing steps: STEP 1 Apply t Mt. SAC Cmplete and submit a Mt. SAC Admissin Applicatin nline. Students transferring frm ther clleges must have their fficial transcript sent t Mt. SAC's Admissins and Recrds Office. STEP 2 Get Assessed Applicants must take Mt.SAC's placement tests, unless successful cmpletin f English, Math, and Reading classes (with at least a grade f C r Pass ) at an accredited cllege/university can be prven in frm f fficial transcripts. 5 RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM ADMISSION PROCESS T gain admissin t the prgram, all applicants must submit the fllwing: STEP 1 Obtain Radilgic Technlgy Prgram Prerequisite Checklist frm Cunselr r an Advisr Applicants must btain a cmpleted and signed Radilgic Technlgy Prgram Prerequisite checklist frm a Mt. SAC Cunselr (r an Advisr). Cunselr/Advisr must verify cmpletin f all AS (Assciate in Science) degree requirements including: general educatin and science prerequisites fr the Radilgic Technlgy prgram. This will be due by February 1. Applicant must be 18 years f age t be eligible fr selectin 36 applicants will be selected fr prvisinal admissin STEP 4 Respnd t Prvisinal Admissin Letter In early Spring, a prvisinal admissin letter will be sent via mail t the selected applicants Applicants shall be respnsible fr respnding with decisin t accept admissin by the due date specified in the letter. At that pint, the applicant shall be prvisinally admitted int the prgram beginning in Summer intersessin. Students can defer admissin up t 2 times. STEP 5 Admissin Once mandatry attendance t Radilgic Technlgy rientatin is met, the applicant s status shall be mved frm prvisinal t admitted. 6 Prgram Missin The missin f the radilgic technlgy prgram is t prepare cmpetent and prfessinal entry-level radigraphers able t meet the needs f the healthcare cmmunity. Prgram Gals 1. Degree requirements = 100% Percentage f graduates passing ARRT Certificatin Exam, first attempt = 91% Percentage f graduates emplyed 1 year after prgram cmpletin = 86% Emplyment Outlk Emplyment f radilgic technlgists is expected t increase by abut 21 percent frm 2012 t 2022, faster than the average fr all ccupatins. As the ppulatin grws and ages, there will be an increasing demand fr diagnstic imaging. With age cmes increased incidence f illness and injury, which ften requires diagnstic imaging fr diagnsis. In additin t diagnsis, diagnstic imaging is used t mnitr the prgress f disease treatment. With the increasing success f medical technlgies in treating disease, diagnstic imaging will increasingly be needed t mnitr prgress f treatment. Althugh hspitals will remain the principal emplyer f radilgic technlgists, a number f new jbs will be fund in ffices f physicians and diagnstic imaging centers. As technlgy advances many imaging mdalities are becming less expensive and mre feasible t have in a physician s ffice. With additinal training, pprtunities exist in varius mdalities, such as magnetic resnance imaging (MRI), cmputerized tmgraphy (CT), sngraphy, radiatin therapy, and angigraphy, as well as medical sales, management, and educatin N. Levels f CPR cards required fr the prgram are as fllws: American Heart Assciatin: BLS Healthcare Prvider, valid 2 years Backgrund Checks Applicants with a Criminal Or Disciplinary Histry All students will be required t pass a backgrund check prir t participating in the clinical educatin prtin f the prgram. The backgrund check must be cmpleted thrugh a prgram apprved cmpany. Students will be given infrmatin n hw t cmplete the backgrund check prcess upn acceptance int the prgram. The backgrund checks will then be reviewed by the student s clinical affiliate. Upn review, if the student is deemed unacceptable fr clinical placement, the prgram will nt pursue an alternate clinical placement fr that student. Curriculum/A.S. Degree Requirements Mt. San Antni Cllege ffers a curriculum in Medical Radilgic Technlgy. The prgram is crdinated with lcal hspitals. The curriculum is 26 mnths in length. Classes are held n campus in a state-f-the-art labratry classrm and in hspital radilgy departments.
