1 Catawba Valley Community College Career & College Promise (CCP) Program for High School Students North Carolina high school programs formerly known as Huskins, Learn & Earn Online (LEO), Concurrent, and Dual Enrollment are now combined into one Career & College Promise (CCP). Success in today s global economy requires a two-or four-year degree, a certificate or diploma. If you are a qualified North Carolina high school junior or senior, CCP gives you the opportunity to pursue these options tuition free! This is your chance to get a jump start on your workplace and college preparation. CCP provides three programs to help advance your post-high school success: Career Technical Education Pathways College Transfer Pathways Cooperative Innovative High School Program Career Technical Education Pathways Lead to a certificate or diploma aligned with a North Carolina high school Career Cluster. To be eligible for enrollment, a high school student must meet ALL of the following criteria: (1) Be a high school junior or senior (2) Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or above on high school courses or have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee (3) Meet the prerequisites for the career pathway. 2 College Transfer Pathways Allow qualified high school juniors and seniors to complete up to 35 semester hours credit tuition free. Classes identified in the Career and College Transfer Pathways will transfer seamlessly (with a course grade of C or higher) to any North Carolina public university as well as participating private colleges/universities. This offers a tremendous way for students to save time and money in pursuing four-year degrees. To be eligible for enrollment, a high school student must meet ALL of the following criteria: (1) Be a high school junior or senior (2) Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or above on high school courses (3) Demonstrate college readiness on an approved assessment or placement test(s). A student must demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics (see Page 5) to be eligible for enrollment in either of the College Transfer Pathways. There are two college transfer pathways available: CCP Transfer Pathway leading to an Associate in Arts degree CCP Transfer Pathway leading to an Associate in Science degree For complete course requirements in each College Transfer Pathway, see Pages Cooperative Innovative High School Program Challenger Early College High School is located on CVCC s campus and allows students to earn a high school diploma and an Associate degree. For additional information, visit PRIORITY Registration Instructions Follow this process if you want to take a CVCC CCP class at a time/place set aside specifically for high school students. A listing of these classes may be found on the CCP website, Registration link click on PRIORITY Registration Course Listing. Specific instructions regarding forms and form completion can be found on Page 26 of this Handbook. Registration Instructions Public Schools Students: Submit the following items to your counselor by the deadline established at your school. 1. CCP Application (if first-time CCP student) 2. 3 Counselors: Submit the following items to the CVCC Student Services Office, CCP/High School Liaison by 4 PM on the established deadline for each semester. 1. CCP Application for each student (if first-time CCP) 2. CCP Application Supplement one for each student 3. Recent copy of all students high school transcripts (official) 4. Verification Form or Provisional Enrollment Verification Form for each student 5. Pathway Change Forms as needed 6. Individual test reports for those students using unofficial test scores (must be resubmitted each semester for a returning student) 7. Priority Registration CCP Student Roster (template previously provided from CVCC) 8. the roster to S. McBride Registration Instructions Private and Home School Students Students: Submit the following items to your principal/administrator or counselor by the deadline established at your school. 1. CCP Application (if first-time CCP student) 2. Verification Form OR Provisional Enrollment Verification Form (every semester) 3. Pathway Change Form if needed Principals/Administrators or Counselors: Submit the following items to the CVCC Student Services Office, High CCP/High School Liaison by 4 PM on the established deadline for each semester. 1. CCP Application for each student (if first-time CCP) 2. CCP Application Supplement one for each student 3. Recent copy of all students high school transcripts (official) 4. Verification Form or Provisional Enrollment Verification Form for each student 5. Pathway Change Forms as needed 6. Individual test reports for those students using unofficial test scores (must be resubmitted each semester for a returning student) 7. Name, and phone number for private school or home school contact Registration for CCP PRIORITY Registration will be handled by CVCC for those students whose paperwork is submitted by the established deadline. Students do not need to come to campus to register. **Courses are contingent upon sufficient enrollment.** On-Campus Registration Instructions Follow this process if you want to take a CVCC CCP class at a time/place that is different than the time/place set aside specifically for high school students (PRIORITY Registration). A listing of these courses may be found at (right-hand side of homepage under Announcements). Selected course(s) must be in the student s College Transfer Pathway and/or Career Technical Pathway(s) and must be designated on the Curriculum Course Schedule as Career & College Promise (CCP). The section numbers MUST be included on this form. Example: MAT (section number). ALL classes identified on this form must be in your pathway(s). Testing Information Both official and unofficial test scores can be submitted for CCP registration. Students MUST complete and submit a Career and College Promise (CCP) Application PRIOR to testing. Accepted Tests Scores may come from one test or a combination of the tests below. College Transfer Pathways PSAT, SAT, PLAN, ACT, COMPASS and/or NC DAP Career Technical Pathways SAT, ACT, COMPASS and/or NC DAP Qualifying Official Scores must be submitted to CVCC only ONCE during high school. (CVCC Codes: ACT = 3079; SAT = 5098). COMPASS and/or NC DAP scores earned while testing on CVCC s campus will become part of the student s electronic record. Qualifying Unofficial Scores must be provided during the registration process of each semester in which the student is enrolled in the CCP Program. 5 or school copy of the test score reports from the official testing agency (ACT and/or CollegeBoard) may be submitted by the school counselor/administrator. Approved assessments and placement tests and scores: Assessment/ Test PLAN* PSAT* COMPASS (NCCCS** Cut Score) NC DAP (NCCCS** Cut Score) March 1, 2015 and beyond English Writing Composite of English and Reading score of 151 or higher Reading Reading Same as above composite score Math Pre-Algebra & 66 Algebra 7 on each assessment for DMA 010 through DMA 060 In addition to the diagnostic assessments, colleges may use the following SAT and ACT scores recommended by the testing companies as benchmarks for college readiness: SAT ACT English 500 English 18 Critical Reading 500 Reading 22 Mathematics 500 Mathematics 22 NOTE: Eligibility may be demonstrated by achieving the required scores on a single test or by combining test scores from any of the approved assessments. Students may take the NC DAP Placement Test at CVCC only once during each high school semester; the CCP Application must be submitted prior to testing. There must be a minimum of 80 school days of academic instruction before NC DAP re-testing. *PLAN and PSAT scores recommended by ACT and CollegeBoard as indicators of college readiness. **North Carolina Community College System Note: Catawba Valley Community College transitioned from COMPASS testing to NC DAP testing beginning March 1, CVCC Testing Center Information CVCC s Testing Center is located on the East Campus (behind Northern Tool) at 2760 Hwy. 70 SE, Hickory, NC The telephone is Ext High school students who do not have qualifying scores on the PLAN, PSAT, ACT, and/or SAT, can test at the Testing Center using the NC DAP--North Carolina (Community College System) Diagnostic and Placement Test. All tests are administered on an appointment basis; a photo ID and your CVCC Student ID number are required for all tests. CVCC College and Career Promise (CCP) Fall 2015, Spring 2016, Summer

6 Students MUST complete and submit a College & Career Promise (CCP) Application PRIOR to testing. The completed application can be returned to your high school counselor or submitted to Sarah McBride in the CVCC Student Services Building. This needs to be done at least two days before your first testing appointment. Testing must be completed before the registration deadline for each semester. (NC DAP testing is not available every day. Please plan ahead and make your testing arrangements ASAP.) When calling to schedule testing appointments, you must identify yourself as a CCP student. If this isn t done, you will be directed to follow the procedure for a degreeseeking student which will cause a delay in your CCP registration process. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled testing appointment; present a photo ID; allow between 2 and 4 hours to complete the testing session. Students are highly encouraged to prepare for testing! You may view or print this 25-page NC DAP Sample Questions packet. RETESTING NOTE: Students may take the NC DAP Placement test(s) only once during a high school semester. There must be a minimum of 80 school days of academic instruction BEFORE NC DAP retesting. There are no testing or retesting fees for CCP students. CCP Student Fees and Expenses While tuition is free, students must pay a nonrefundable CCP fee each semester. If you do not drop the class BEFORE the first day of class (whether you attend the class or not regardless of WHERE the class is taught), you are responsible for the nonrefundable fee. If your class is on one of CVCC s campuses, you will pay your fee to the CVCC Business Office (Main Campus) on or before the first day of class. CVCC will accept cash, check, or credit card. CVCC will only accept checks that have a driver s license number or state issued ID number printed/written on them. If your class is online or taught on a high school campus, talk with your principal/administrator or counselor about how your fee will be collected/paid. Textbooks Students are responsible for talking with their principal/administrator or counselor regarding the textbooks or other materials needed for the class.
