Boon originally had a partner in this venture, but his untiely death within a year of the copany's foundation left Boon, a secretary and two draftsen to handle not only the design and ain contracting of all the copany's projects, but also the sales side of the business. Despite these difficult and unfortunate circustances, by 1968 Boon had copleted the designs for the Doggerbank series of 11- to 37etre ocean-going otoryachts. This design proved to be iensely popular, and ore than 470 have been launched to date. Al though the Doggerbank was, and is still, one of Vripack's ost successful designs, it had one drawback: its reputation becae so widely spread that any people thought it was the only thing Vripack did. In 1987, Boon decided to drop the copany's ain contracting activities in favour of pure naval architecture, planning and construction supervision, as well as representing clients on projects. Since that tie, Vripack has been involved in the production of 20-foot power sloops to 200-foot super-yachts - and everything in between. lts coercial projects have included cockle harvesters of 150 feet in with a drift of only 13 inches; 70foot shrip harvesters; and 32-foot coastguard vessels capable of travelling at speeds of up to 100 k/h. 17 naval architect, design- and sales office &! / Lofting and Patterns - the new approach A new service provided by Dick Boon Associates will ake the lofting floor a thing of the past, to enlightened builders, who take on board this revolutionary process. The full scale patterns that are traditionally cut of shell plating, decks, floors, bulkheads up to the sallest piece.of etal, is a tie consuing process, and can now be eliinated. The newest software prograes allows the design office to copute the nestapes using CAD. Every detail is included, right down to eleents such as the air holes in tank floors. All the inforation is transfered to a CNC (Coputer Nueric Control) cutting achine. Dick Boon Associates, as far they are a ware, are the only naval architects offering this service. The following drawings deonstrate how the nestapes are achieved. The project selected to illustrate the process in a Research Vessel Yacht 151' currently being built by Paler Johnson Incorporated in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, U.S.A. A "Portside webfrae nuber 60" is chosen as saple for deonstration. Drawing 1: A general arrangeent is drawn up so that the owners wishes can be incorporated. Drawing 2: Specification and weight calculations are ade, based on the inforation available. Drawing 3: Coputer lofted line drawings. The drawing "Webfrae in line drawing" already shows frae 60 which gives the outside shape of the webfrae. Drawing 4: Drawing 5: Drawing 6: Coplete construction drawings ready to send to a classification office such as Lloyd's Register of Shipping. The drawing "Webfrae in construction drawing" shows the coplete webfrae with all the details to cut out the longitudinal stiffeners.
