4 Meet our Distinguished Faculty Joan Borysenko, PhD A Harvard trained cell biologist, licensed psychologist, and spiritual educator. A pioneer in mind/body medicine and psycho-neuroimmunology, Joan is president of Mind-Body Health Sciences, LLC in Boulder, CO and a New York Times bestselling author of 16 books. Known for her tender exploration of the human spirit, she combines the latest science with the world s perennial wisdom traditions to inform and inspire. Colin Ross, MD An internationally renowned clinician, researcher, author and lecturer in the field of dissociation and trauma-related disorders, Dr. Ross is Founder and President of the Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma. He has authored several books including: The Trauma Model, Schizophrenia: Innovations in Diagnosis and Treatment, The C.I.A. Doctors and Moon Shadows. Mark Sanders, LCSW, CADC An international speaker in the behavioral health field whose presentations have reached thousands throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. He is co-author of Recovery Management and author of Relationship Detox: How to Have Healthy Relationships in Recovery. His most recent book is entitled, Slipping through the Cracks: Intervention Strategies for Clients with Multiple Addictions and Disorders. He is a lecturer at the University of Chicago. Polly Young-Eisendrath, PhD A psychologist, writer, speaker and Jungian analyst who has published 15 books including The Self-Esteem Trap, The Cambridge Companion to Jung, and Women and Desire. Her most recent book, The Present Heart: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Discovery, is a meditation on the healing power of love based on her experience with her spouse who died from early onset Alzheimer s disease that attempts to answer the question What is love, anyway? Dennis Ortman, PhD In private practice for over twenty years, specializing in treating those with addictions and those who have suffered the trauma of infidelity. Before becoming a psychologist, he was a Catholic priest for fourteen years. With graduate degrees in both psychology and theology, he works with patients on issues on the borderline between psychology and spirituality, employing a mindful approach to therapy. Dennis is an author of five books on recovery from addictions and infidelity. A book on recovery from anxiety as an addiction is in press. He lectures around the country on utilizing the wisdom of Freud and Buddha in treatment. Christine Courtois, PhD, ABPP A Board Certified Counseling Psychologist in independent practice in Washington, DC and National Clinical Training Consultant for Elements Behavioral Health/Promises, Malibu & LA. She is the appointed chair of the American Psychological Association s PTSD Guideline Development Panel and Past-President of Division 56 (Psychological Trauma) of the APA, as well as a Founding Associate Editor of the Division s journal. In 1990, she co-founded The CENTER: Posttraumatic Disorders Program in Washington, DC and served as Clinical and Training Director for 16 years. Pamela Peeke, MD, MPH, FACP Dr. Peeke is a Pew Foundation Scholar in Nutrition and Metabolism, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland. Dr. Peeke is Senior Science Advisor to Elements Behavioral Health, establishing a national platform for the treatment of addictive eating disorders. She is WebMD s chief lifestyle expert and is an acclaimed TEDx presenter. Dr. Peeke is a New York Times bestselling author including her most recent book, The Hunger Fix, presenting food addiction science and treatment. Gabor Maté, MD With over 20 years of family practice and palliative care experience and extensive knowledge of the latest findings of leading-edge research, author of several bestselling books including the award-winning In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction; When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress; and Scattered Minds: A New Look at the Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder, and co-authored Hold on to Your Kids. His works have been published internationally in twenty languages. Megan Ross, LPC, R-DMT, GL-CMA Director of Program Development and Trauma Awareness for Timberline Knolls, Megan supports the needs of residents by developing programming in alignment with the evolutions of neuroscience, process addictions, trauma recovery, expressive modalities, and critical, humanist psychology while promoting the embodiment process for both resident and staff. She develops, trains and upholds a campus-wide integrative approach to the recovery process. Megan is currently pursuing her Doctorate in International Trauma Psychology. Stefanie Carnes, PhD, LMFT, CSAT-S President of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, a training institute and professional organization for addiction professionals, and a national clinical consultant for Elements Behavioral Health. Her area of expertise includes working with patients and families struggling with multiple addictions such as sexual addiction, eating disorders and chemical dependency. Dr. Carnes is also a certified sex addiction therapist and supervisor, specializing in therapy for couples and families struggling with sexual addiction. Author of numerous publications and books including Mending a Shattered Heart: A Guide for Partners of Sex Addicts, Facing Heartbreak: Steps to Recovery for Partners of Sex Addicts, and Facing Addiction: Starting Recovery from Alcohol and Drugs. Christopher O Reilly, LPC, CAADC, CCS, ACRPS, CSAT Christopher joined Caron Treatment Centers in 2004 and currently serves as Clinical Director of Recovery Care Services and My First Year of Recovery. An adjunct professor in the undergraduate Behavioral Health program at Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania.
