1 Syllabu for Theology I (BST 60) Bibliology, Prolegomena, Theology Proper Front Range Bible Intitute Profeor Tim Dane I. Coure Decription Theology I i the firt of four theology clae. Thi coure will include a tudy of the firt four of the ten major branche of theology and will embrace three topic of Sytematic Theology: Bibliology, Prolegomena, and Theology Proper. The coure will include claroom lecture that are primarily baed upon the profeor note, although the format will not be in a pure lecture form. Student are encouraged to participate by aking and anwering quetion and taking note. Detailed note will be provided, but the tudent i encouraged to make addition in the margin baed upon claroom dicuion that will expand and elaborate. The coure will include quizze and exam from the material tudied a well a a cla project. The cla project will be aimed at taking the claroom learning and tranferring it into a ueable tudent tool for practical minitry purpoe. II. Coure Objective One objective of thi cla i to have tudent become familiar with orthodox Chritian theology in the area of Bibliology, Prolegomena, and Theology Proper. To accomplih thi, the profeor will expoe the tudent primarily to the orthodox view, but will alo expoe tudent to heretical and aberrant view a they have arien throughout the age. A econd objective of thi cla i that thi theological learning proce would achieve it true end of producing a greater love for God and a greater deire for genuine worhip. Jeu aid that the Father eek true worhipper who worhip in pirit and truth. The goal of theology i more than acquiition of knowledge, it i to produce true worhipper of God. A third objective of thi coure i that tudent take the knowledge they acquire, and begin applying their growing knowledge in practical minitry. Thi will be accomplihed by having a cla project that i deigned for ome type of minitry application and by requiring that thi cla project be employed in ome type of minitry etting. III. Your own computer or at leat acce to a computer i. Cla preentation hould be on Microoft Word, although the hard copie of your project do not necearily have to be done on thi program. Uing the ame program may be helpful when it come to quetion about tyle and formatting. ii. It i recommended (though not required) that you ee if you could employ Power Point in your teaching. iii. You do not need to have a laptop in cla, but you may ue one for note-taking if you prefer. E. Logo Libronix Bible Software Program (highly recommended a a peronal tudy tool, but not required for the cla. Group dicount may be poible through FBI). IV. Coure Requirement A. Attend all clae (if a tudent mut mi a cla, he/he mut obtain a DVD copy and watch the lecture) B. All tudent: Read Millard Erickon Chritian Theology through page 432 C. 3 A. Prepare a teaching outline baed upon claroom tudie that you will preent to other in ome kind of teaching context. B. After preparing the material, you will teach it. C. After teaching it, you will turn in a copy of the material along with a note that tell where you taught it, when you taught, who you taught it to, and have thi note igned by one peron who wa preent. D. The teaching time hould have a minimum goal of 20 minute teaching time. E. The context can be in any variety of etting, with ome uggetion lited here: i. A Sunday School cla ii. A home Bible tudy iii. A time of family devotion iv. A convalecent home (perhap you could begin a new minitry) v. A hopital that might allow uch minitry vi. A viitation to a church hut-in who cannot attend church vii. Note: a a requirement, firt go to your pator (by cla week 2) and ak him if he can help chedule a way for you to fulfill thi requirement. If he cannot, then you can find your own teaching opportunity. viii. Have one of thoe preent fill out a brief evaluation form with contructive criticim, ign it, and return it to you. ix. See, if poible, to have either your profeor or pator be preent at the teaching eion. F. The ubject and outline will be a follow: i. An introduction ection that briefly dicue why man need revelation and Scripture (deal with iue of man in and need for alvation) ii. What God ha done to provide revelation and truth (deal with inpiration and how God ha given revelation and written Scripture through Hi prophet) iii. Why we hould believe that the Scripture i reliable and inerrant (deal with what God ay about the truthfulne of Hi Word a well a external factor that demontrate the reliability of the Bible) iv. What God promie the Scripture can accomplih (deal with what God ay Hi Word doe in producing godline and holine, etc.) v. A brief ection on what God ay about Hi own Triunity (very brief liting and explanation from Scripture) vi. A brief ection that talk about God nature and character (name or attribute. Thi mut be concie) vii. A brief ection that make mention of God overeignty and the good purpoe of Hi will viii. A brief cloing ection that conciely applie the main idea taught and give an exhortation for practical application for the hearer. 3
4 G. The project hould be in an outline kind of format a noted above in ection F. The main point hould be a noted above, but the tudent hould alo eek to develop with ubpoint and poibly ub-ub point. Since thi i an outline, you will not be having to give extenive filling in with explanation of your point. You will do thi when you teach the material. You can put a much text a you feel i comfortable for your own purpoe. H. The project hould roughly be 7-0 page for Certificate and Bachelor tudent and roughly 5-20 page for Mater tudent (precie length of project i not the main point, but content and practice i). I.
