APRO VOCATIONAL TRAINING s.c.a.r.l. DESCRIPTION The school was founded in 1958 by Monsignor Gian Battista Gianolio as a vocational school for young people, with the purpose of, through social and professional studies, responding to the needs of the companies in the area. Later, the school was run by the Piedmont Region, until 1998 when APRO, a Consort Society, took over the management. APRO is made up of local authorities such as the municipality of Alba, the most renowned companies in the area like Ferrero S.p.a. and Miroglio Group S.p.A., a selection of other companies and all the professional associations in the area of the town of Alba. Besides the school in Alba, a second one was opened in the town of Canelli, in the province of Asti. 1
MISSION The objective of Apro is to respond to the demands of the area concentrating on professional and vocational needs of the companies, preparing youth for the world of employment and providing refresher courses for those who are already employed. Therefore the Consort Society main objectives are the construction of a common organization for definition and the development of activities of professional learning. Other main tasks of the school are: schoolwork guidance, reinsertion into the world of employment, studies and research regarding the previously mentioned activities. 2
ACTIVITY AREAS Compulsory Education Training addressed to Junior High School Graduates APRO is well known in the professional training area aimed at young people. At the present 600 students are attending the school in 5 sectors: technical engineering, electrical, hotel, hairdressing and clothing. When the students begin attending, they are 14 years old and they are taught by professionals. They continue their training through work experience in companies, by studying with active and cross-disciplinary didactic methods and using laboratories with the most modern technologies. The courses last three years and at the end of the school period, the students get a professional qualification (Professional compulsory education) and they can begin working. APRO courses are ideal for students who have a natural bent for practical studies, for those who want to start a job, for students who have practical intelligence and for those who want to become small entrepreneurs. The best students become well paid professionals. Apro also offers courses integrated with the Institutes of lower and upper Secondary Education. 3
ACTIVITY AREAS Labour Market Focused training for those looking for e mployment following the compulsory school period APRO s objective is to prepare the students, once they have finished their compulsory education, with specialised courses that lead to an ideal connection between high school or university and the real work world The courses are organised for qualified high school or university graduates who are ready to start a vocation. These courses give to young people, for whom it is not always easy to find a gratifying job after the end of the school, the concrete chance to enter in the labour market as professionals in the following fields: tourism, fashion, commerce, culinary art, social and health care assistance, computer science and many others. 4
ACTIVITY AREAS Labour Market Training for Immigrants The courses at Apro represent, since many years, a consolidated solution to assure a better social integration of immigrants as well as a concrete support to facilitate their access to the labour market. Labour Market Training for the Disabled APRO organises personalized courses for disabled students. The courses are planned and conducted by qualified teachers with great experience in the sector. The students receive a real support for their integration in the workforce. Labour Market Training for Unemployed Adults APRO offers courses that represent ideal and efficient solutions for the entrance or re-entrance of unemployed adults into the workforce. 5
ACTIVITY AREAS Individual Lifelong Learning Training aimed at employed students APRO offers the possibility of enrolment to Lifelong Learning courses to employed people according to individual needs. They can enrol throughout the year. The vocational courses are financed 80% by the Province and are held in the evenings. All the courses, which are numerous and vary widely, include: language courses, computer science, tourism and cuisine, business management, creativity and communication, business administration management. The courses are, in particular, aimed at employed people, therefore they are extremely convenient and interesting, not only because they are useful for their jobs, but also and above all, because they deal with current subjects both on a personal level and on a modern level with facts, not necessarily relating to the job itself. 6
ACTIVITY AREAS Apprenticeship Training addressed to workers with apprenticeship contract APRO offers vocational courses aimed at young people already employed with an apprenticeship contract, according to the law, with theoretical and practical subject matter, in collaboration with the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. Enterprise Training At Apro, you can find rich catalogues which offer financed training for all professional levels with the possibility of planning and creating high quality courses. Apro seeks the most ideal financial instruments to be able to achieve training courses that companies need to organize. In addition to this, depending on the type of course, the students, the duration, and the course period, Apro prepares the training project and presents it to the competent offices for financing. In the case of positive feedback, it accompanies and follows the company in its development of training activity and in its final report of this training period. 7
ACTIVITY AREAS Guidance Activities APRO organizes and manages guidance training and information activities for young students in compulsory education and training, as well as for apprentices, post-diploma courses and unemployed people. Apro carries out Individual Support and Larsa to permit the passage of the students among different schools or levels of education, in particular between the Institutes and the Training Agency; it also offers vocational guidance activities for students completing their last year of junior high school (lower secondary school). The guidance operators and trainers support and follow the students in their whole training career, from the entrance in school to the insertion in the labour market. Apro is also an accredited work centre (SaL) in the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. 8
