Incumbent significantly contributed to the science of: Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on cotton ( ), specifically the interrelationships between insect pests, host plants, natural enemies, and various biotic and abiotic factors; started - on soybean, sweet and white corn ( ) in subtropical agriculture; Introduced effective Bt types and varieties of cotton that reduced risks of secondary pest outbreaks (lepidopteran) under Boll Weevil Eradication Program ( ), improved present laboratory and field methodology for evaluation efficacy of transgenic technologies ( ), started estimation of transgenic technologies on non-target harmful and beneficial insects ( ); Remote sensing was used for evaluating the effectiveness of defoliation strategies, cotton regrowth treatments, and volunteer cotton in large fields during cotton free period, boll weevil damage, and effectiveness of different cotton Bt types ( ); Developed and improved technology and equipment for mass propagation of beneficials (Trichogramma spp., Catolaccus grandis, Chrysoperla spp., and whiteflies parasitoids), short- and long-term methods for storage them, expressmethods for quality control of reared beneficials; developed strategy for integrating Trichogramma spp. (as a beneficials model) augmentative releases against lepidopteran into pea-green, cabbage, sugar beet, winter wheat, sugarcane, cotton, sweet corn, and design of original equipment for releases by various aircraft and tractors. Incumbent developed models and techniques using pheromone traps for prognosis lepidopteran and optimizing rates of beneficials releases. In these entire studies incumbent worked as a key and productive member of several scientific teams, included different specialties ( ). Incumbent has 45 years of practical and research work in plant protection from pest and diseases, among them 33 years as a professional Research Entomologist. Authored 195 scientific publications and has 11 patents (see addition 1). Incumbent made about 200 presentations at scientific meetings in 21 countries of the world (addition 2), recognized internationally as an authority in the propagation and application of biological control agents for management of crop pests, IPM on cotton. Incumbent was National Trichogramma research plan coordinator of All-Union Agricultural Academy of Sciences ( ), Chairman of the Permanent Commission of Beneficials of the EPS/IOBC ( ), served on the Editorial Board of the EPS/IOBC Information Bulletin ( ), was co-investigator of cooperative project with scientist of Moldova, funded by U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation, , participated in several cooperative agreements (Cotton corporation, Bayer Crop Science ( ). The incumbent provided supervision 10 post-graduates who defended their theses for PhD, 12 students thesis for B. A. from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kishinev universities and agricultural institutes of former USSR ( ); 2

Interest in the future research: Develop an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for sweet and white corn as a food products for human, soybeans by focusing on developing long-term economically, socially, and environmentally acceptable systems through a combination of tactics, including biological and cultural control, interrelationship between plants and insects, use of resistance varieties, and soft pesticides. Evaluation of transgenic Bt corn and soybeans for management lepidopteran pests Accomplishments: Developed and improved technologies and equipment for mass rearing, quality control, and storage of some key beneficials, integrated them in IPM systems of some economical important crops with designed original equipment by aircraft and tractor. Significantly reduced using pesticides in cotton under Boll Weevil Eradication Program based on studies that evaluated effects of biotic and abiotic factors on boll weevil survival, development, and reproduction; developed some practices for controlling overwintering boll weevil and other insects: pre-harvest applying of the insecticides, at half the recommended rates, with combination cotton defoliant; applying herbicide 2, 4-D amine in killing regrowth cotton; ingesting and digesting pollen by boll weevil may be one of the key evolved survival mechanisms in fall and winter when cotton is not available, understanding boll weevil dispersal before and after cotton production by pollen fingerprinting is paramount in boll weevil management and eradication; *integration of pesticides with conservation tillage will provide opportunities for reducing insecticides input about 30%; Transgenically modified cotton and microbial insecticides are environmentally friendly and highly selective; they are a useful tool in minimizing risk of secondary pest problems, and augmented activity of beneficial insects. Incumbent developed some elements of production organic cotton, organic and IPM on sweet and white corn for human food, IPM for soybean (more detail see in addition # 3).
