2 Standards are key to healthcare at all levels service, fiscal, administrative decision makers, clinicians in direct patient care, patients and their carers and researchers across the whole health sector, including public health Cost minimization - Information and the systems used to collect, retrieve and present that information are expensive and complex Benefit maximization standards indicate the way forward to reduce re- work and integrate
3 Standards support the ability to collect information once and use it for a range of purposes Consistent information structure Agreed structure (fields) of information Consistent information representation Agreed way to represent content (eg. SNOMED CT, ICD, AMT, national code systems)
4 PCEHR requires systems that have Appropriate, consistent privacy processes Information transmission and content management Information representation Each of these require skills in our health organisations to implement and manage the information and the systems associated with the information Standards Australia is the environment in Australia where these requirements meet
