4 4 Skills Development Indicator Weighting All Firms Internal Skills Development: Professional Staff (legal) Internal Skills Development: Non professional staff 10 1 % of total working hours measured per annum % of total working hours measured per annum For the purposes of this scorecard internal skills development means training provided to members and employees of the firm. 2.Training means all training including formal informal internal and outsourced. 3.Professional staff for the purposes of this score card includes all practising attorneys and candidate attorneys. 4.Total working hours for the purposes of each category means the number of ordinary hours of work over a twelve month period multiplied by the total number of staff in each category. 5.The following factors should be applied to the training: ᓰthe number of hours spend on training HDI professionals excluding candidate attorneys must be multiplied by a factor of 1,5; ᓰthe number of hours spend on training candidate attorneys and black non professional staff must be multiplied by a factor of 2.

6 6 Enterprise Development Indicator Weighting All Firms Provision of training mentorship twinning and/or financial assistance to external entities (business or community based) and/or law students by providing both professional and non professional skills 15 Either 12 hours per annum or 1% of Net Profit After Tax or 0.1% of annual turnover (if no NPAT earned) or any combination of the above 15

7 7 Socio Economic Development Indicator Weighting All Firms Provision of pro bono services rendered in accordance with and recognised by the statutory law societies pro bono programmes/rules hours per annum per professional/partner/director/employer excluding candidate attorneys or in accordance with the relevant statutory law society programme> 15

8 Method of calculation The total weighting of all the scorecards equals 100 and compliance is accordingly measured as a percentage. Compliance or the level of compliance is determined by referring to the table of compliance set out below. Where the scorecards allow for optional compliance the total against which the percentage is calculated is reduced by the weighting attached to the optional indicator. Should a firm elect to comply with an optional indicator the amount earned in respect of the optional indicator is added to the firms score as a bonus. The total against which the percentage is calculated is not increased. Levels of compliance Compliance shall be divided into the following categories by percentage scored : Level AA > 85% Level A < 85% but > 65% Level BB < 65% but > 55% Level B < 55% but > 40% NON COMPLIANCE < 40%
