2 Welcome to the concert. It is our pleasure and privilege to bring the Gospel in song to you today! Please turn off all electronic devices prior to the concert. Thank you. The Martin Luther College Choir is an auditioned choir representing the various educational programs offered at MLC. The choir rehearses five times a week to prepare a program of choral music to take to various areas of the WELS. In recent years the choir has sung at congregations in Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The choir was also privileged to travel to our missions in Mexico in In addition to this choir, Martin Luther College has other opportunities for students to participate in ensemble performance. There are three other choirs: Männerchor, Women s Choir, and College Chorale. In the instrumental area: a Wind Symphony and the Hosanna Ringers. These ensembles are open to all students, and entry is via an audition process. Academic programs in the area of music at MLC include programs in K-12 Choral Music, K-12 Instrumental Music, and Parish Music. God So Loved the World God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him. In Adam We Have All Been One In Adam we have all been one, one huge rebellious man; we all have fled that evening voice that sought us as we ran. We fled thee, and in losing thee we lost our brother too; each singly sought and claimed his own; each man his brother slew. But thy strong love, it sought us still and sent thine only Son that we might hear his shepherd s voice and, hearing him, be one. O thou who, when we loved thee not, didst love and save us all, thou great Good Shepherd of mankind, O hear us when we call. Send us thy Spirit, teach us truth; thou Son, O set us free from fancied wisdom, self-sought ways, to make us one in thee. Then shall our song united rise to thine eternal throne, where with the Father evermore and Spirit thou art one.

Free us, O Emmanuel, from the sorrow and suffering of where we dwell. Lord, we are calling, how long do we wait before the glory of the kingdom we can celebrate? Come, Emmanuel, break the bars, tear them down from humanity s cell. Your light shall break as the morning. Your health shall surely spring up. 6 What Wondrous Love Is This What wondrous love is this, O my soul. What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul. To God and to the Lamb I will sing. To God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM, while millions join the theme, I will sing. And when from death I m free, I ll sing on! And when from death I m free, I ll sing and joyful be and through eternity I ll sing on. Heaven s Door or Begin the Song of Glory Now As Mary walked to the tomb that day, an angel rolled the stone away. Have no fear, the angel said, your Lord is risen from the dead. Refrain: Sing, Alleluia! God be praised; Jesus from the tomb is raised. Sing alleluias evermore, Love has opened heaven s door. The Roman soldiers grew faint with fear to see a mighty angel appear. 7 Now the Green Blade Rises Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; Love lives again, that with the dead has been; Love is come again like wheat arising green. In the grave they laid him, Love by hatred slain, Thinking that he would never wake again, Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen; Love is come again like wheat arising green. Forth he came at Easter like the rising grain, He that for three days in the grave had lain; Raised from the dead, my living Lord is seen: Love is come again like wheat arising green. When our hearts are wintry, grieving or in pain, Your touch can call us back to life again, Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been; Love is come again like wheat arising green. The Yearning There is a yearning in hearts weighed down by ancient grief and centuries of sorrow. There is a yearning in hearts that in the darkness hide and in the shades of death abide, a yearning for tomorrow. There is a yearning for the promised One, the Firstborn of creation. There is a yearning for the Lord who visited his own, and by his death for sin atoned, to bring to us salvation. Emmanuel within our hearts. There is a yearning that fills the hearts of those who wait the day of his appearing. There is a yearning when all our sorrows are erased and we shall see the One who placed within our hearts the yearning. A free-will offering will be received at this time. God So Loved the World John 3:16-17 Music by Matthew Culloton, b manuscript This selection was commissioned by the Martin Luther College Choir for this program. Matthew Culloton is the conductor of the professional choral ensemble The Singers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a well-known and established composer. He is known for his unique approaches to the familiar in choral music. We are pleased to debut his new setting of this familiar and well-known gospel text. He says about the title, I generally prefer to assign English titles to pieces with Latin text... I wanted the musical evolution of the Mass to go from the transparent and spacey to something completely earthy and grounded.

Lutheran Synod for the 2011 WELS Conference on Worship, Music and the Arts. The text is a recast of the hymn that is known as Jesus, Priceless Treasure. Paul Mealor is professor of composition at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He is especially known for his choral compositions. He became widely known after his setting of Ubi Caritas was performed at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in Gloria Setting by Hyo-won Woo, b Chorus Center, Seoul, Korea This is the third part of the larger work that the composer titles Gloria. In this section, the composer sets a portion of the traditional Gloria in excelsis text. Hyo-won Woo is a full-time composer for the Incheon City Chorale.
