4 Growing with Turkey When my partners and I announced our decision to launch 3 Seas Capital Partners 10 years ago, it was received with little fanfare and much skepticism by those around us. Many individuals we consulted were of the opinion that the M&A market in Turkey was not capable of supporting an entirely local financial institution whose sole capital was the accumulated expertise of its partners. Nevertheless, we had an indispensable advantage that gave us the energy to start and the hope of prolonged success: a very keen understanding of the Turkish business community and their needs. We spoke the same language and we had the wherewithal to address such needs. Moreover, we were confident that with our know-how and perseverance we could establish a strong M&A marketplace in Turkey in cooperation with the Turkish and international investors and entrepreneurs with whom we shared the same perspective. Today, we are proud of having justified our vision with the completion of more than 90 successful transactions over the past 10 years, and an aggregate volume that exceeds USD 5 billion. I would like to emphasize that there is an additional, specific dimension to this success that is We played an active role in establishing the significance of M&A in the Turkish business world. We helped boost the overseas reputation of Turkish companies and as of today we have a very strong M&A market in Turkey. 2

5 even more gratifying: we have made a substantial contribution to the ascend of the M&A market in Turkey to its current level of USD billion in volume per year, from its levels of USD 2-3 billion a decade earlier. Even more important, we pioneered the establishment of an entrenched and sustainable Mergers and Acquisitions culture in Turkey. We were instrumental in bringing this practice to the attention and appreciation of the Turkish business community and developing skilled human resources for the sector. We helped amplify and enrich the reputation of Turkish companies abroad. As a result, we have a very strong M&A market in Turkey today. We are all aware by now that a robust M&A market serves as a major indicator of stability in a country while also strengthening its companies and macro economy. Ready for the Centennial Anniversary of Our Republic Just as the Turkish economy - with its consistent growth trend over the past decade - has approached the trillion dollar GDP mark and succeeded in entering the growth markets league of countries with influence on the global economy, and became a center of attraction for global capital flows, the next decade should represent no obstacles in reaching for much broader goals, backed by our motivation to commemorate the Centennial of our Republic. Turkish companies with global vision, acting as regional and international leaders, will be imperative in becoming a globally influential and regional leader country by our Republic s Centennial just as much as strong foreign relations and macroeconomic achievements. In fact, many of the country s valuable companies and investors - some of whom we have had the privilege to advise - have already started making strategic acquisitions around the world; forming indispensable partnerships, and establishing invaluable global brands, instead of solely relying on goods trade relations and know-how transfers as accustomed in the olden days. It is now time for more Turkish companies to seize leadership positions, first in the region, and then in the global arena: which can only be accomplished through acquisitions and new partnerships. I believe that with contributions from us and our esteemed colleagues, we will be witnessing many more success stories - particularly in our region, followed by Europe, Asia, the U.S.A., and other regions - by Turkish investors whose investment horizons have deservedly expanded to a global scale in the recent years. We will more frequently hear what used to be an uncommon phrase, a Turkish company has acquired/ formed a partnership with a company abroad. Mr. Başev has experience in competition law, investment law and advisory, M&A, contract negotiations. Having been graduated from İzmir American College in 1993, Başev holds a B.A. in Political and Administrative Sciences from the Economy and Finance Department of Marmara University, İstanbul and an M.Sc. in European Union Studies from Galatasaray University, İstanbul.
