1 Perquimans County Schools Foundation Announces Local Scholarships The Perquimans County Schools Foundation announces the availability of the following scholarships for high school seniors attending Perquimans High School. Bessie Smith Harrell Scholarship The Bessie Smith Harrell Scholarship of $750 is given in honor of Bessie Smith Harrell, a native and life long resident of Perquimans County, who passed away in The intent of the donor, David Jordan, is that this award will encourage studying basic or applied fields of science by students. Recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service and character. Claude Brinn Male and Female Athletic Scholarships The Perquimans County Schools Athletic Boosters funds a $500 scholarship for a male and female athlete each year. Recipients participate in at least two sports, maintain high academic standards throughout their tenure in high school, and are noted for their outstanding sportsmanship. PCHS Class of 1964 Pay It Forward Scholarship - This scholarship of $500 is given by members of the PCHS Class of 1964 to assist a 2015 PCHS graduate. Applicant must be a resident of Perquimans County, attending a college in the Fall of 2014 (2 year, 4 year, community or technical), GPA of 2.5 or above, with financial need being a consideration. A letter describing their field of interest and college they plan to attend, high school transcript, a list of honors and extracurricular activities and one letter of reference are required. Rhonda Gregory Business Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship is a scholarship sponsored by Danny and Rhonda Gregory and is

2 offered to a PCHS senior planning to attend College of the Albemarle and entering the field of business. Recipients are selected based on financial need and academic standards. Shearman Athletic Scholarship Dave Shearman, a Perquimans County resident, sponsors the annual Shearman Athletic Scholarship of $500 to a PCHS athlete who participates in at least one sport, has no disciplinary referrals and maintains high academic standards. The Bogue Scholarship The Bogue Scholarship of $2500 is given by Mr. and Mrs. William A. Bogue, Jr. in memory of his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Bogue, aunts Margaret B. Butler and Edith B. Spivey, and all the descendents of the first William Bogue of Perquimans who have called Perquimans County their home for more than 300 years. The Eugene Rountree, Sr. Scholarship This $500 scholarship in memory of Eugene Rountree, Sr. is sponsored by the Inter-County Department Fire Department and is available to a high school student. Mr. Rountree was a charter member and retired Fire Chief of the Inter-County Volunteer Fire Department with more than four decades of service. The Harvey and Elizabeth Alter Science Scholarship This $1500 scholarship given to one male and one female is sponsored by Harvey and Elizabeth Alter. The intent of the donors, Harvey & Elizabeth Alter, is that this award will encourage study in the field of applied science. Applicant must be a senior, have a GPA of B or better, with financial need demonstrated (underprivileged family). The Perquimans County Schools Foundation Scholarship - The Perquimans County Schools Foundation selects one student each year to award a $1,000 scholarship which is renewable for the four years recipient is in college. Recipients are selected based on academic standards, community service and character. The Walker and Marjorie Rayburn Scholarship The purpose of the Walker and Marjorie Rayburn Scholarship is to give an opportunity for a graduate of Perquimans County High School to

3 attend a college away from home, who would otherwise not be likely to do so. This is intended to be a need based scholarship and will be $5,000 per year for a qualifying student, for a total of $20,000 for the four-year college experience. The applicant should have a 3.0 GPA. The applicant must attach a school provided transcript with an attendance record. A list of extracurricular activities and community activities must be provided with a description of the role played by the applicant in each of the activities. An essay is required stating how the applicant plans to give back to his/her community upon graduating from college. Thomas and Mary Chapley Scholarship - This $4,000 scholarship for one year is given by Thomas and Mary Chapley to assist a PCHS graduate entering college in Fall 2015 (graduate must be accepted/attend a 4-year university in the UNC System located at least 50 miles from Hertford, North Carolina. Applicant must be a resident of Perquimans County, have a GPA of 3.0 or above, with financial need as a consideration. William Steve and Sharon Spies Lane Scholarship - This $1500 scholarship is given by William Steve and Sharon Spies Lane to one male and one female recipient to assist a PCHS student (or prior recipient) in attending College of The Albemarle. Applicant must be a resident of Perquimans County, GPA of 3.0 or above and financial need is a consideration. A letter describing your field of interest, high school transcript, a list of honors and extracurricular activities and one letter of reference. Perquimans Arts League / Suzanne Towe Haste Merit Award - This $500 scholarship is sponsored by The Perquimans Arts League and pays tribute to Suzanne Towe Haste and is known as the Suzanne Towe Haste Merit Award and Exhibit, and is for high school seniors and juniors, residing in Perquimans County. The Merit award recognizes students of outstanding ability who will be majoring in the Arts in college or have applied to a summer program or camp for the arts. This award is made to applicants

4 without regard to financial need. All applicants will participate in an exhibit, to take place at the Perquimans Arts League Gallery. The Emmett Long Scholarship - This scholarship is made available to a student attending Perquimans County High School with a "C" average or better, who is active in the community and has a strong desire to further his/her education. The Emmett B. Long Education Scholarship is valued at $750 and is a renewable scholarship sponsored by Madelyn P. Long.
