Tracking Camera () PCS-G70/G70P All

Introduction The Tracking Camera is a camera unit dedicated to the PCS-G70/G70P. It provides the Voice-Directional Detection function, the Face Recognition function, and the Moving Object Recognition function. By combining them, the following three operation modes are realized. Speaker Tracking mode You can face the camera to the speaker automatically. Next Face Centering mode) You can face the camera to an adjacent (right or left) participant directly with the Remote Commander. Presenter mode You can keep the camera facing to a specific speaker (such as during a lecture). This document describes the features of the tracking camera in each mode Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 2

Speaker Tracking mode Using the Voice-Directional Detection function and the Face Recognition function, the camera automatically faces to the speaker. Overview of operation First, the Voice-Directional Detection function is used to face the camera towards the direction where a speaker may exist. Next, when there is only one face in the image, the Face Recognition function is used to adjust the angle and zoom to center the face on the screen. When there are two or more faces in the image, the face nearest to the center in the horizontal direction is recognized as the speaker, and the angle and zoom are adjusted to center the face on the screen. If the speaker cannot be detected correctly, the camera stops and stands by for the next operation. The operation mode does not finish automatically.* 1 *1: For example, when the camera faces to the speaker but it recognizes no face, it stops. Further adjustment such as pan/tilt and zoom is not performed to search for a face. Detects the voice of the speaker and moves the camera. Focuses on the speaker. Recognizes the face from the image, and adjusts the angle and zoom. The Speaker Tracking mode can be used also for the Next Face Centering function described below. This function is useful as an auxiliary function, for example when the speaker is not detected correctly. The Face Recognition function lets you face the camera to an adjacent (right or left) participant by just pressing the 1 or 3 button on the Remote Commander Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 3

Principle of voice-directional detection The has two integrated microphones for voice-directional detection. These two microphones are used to detect voice sources as described below. Detects the direction where voices are generated based on the time difference between voices input to the two microphones for each frequency range. Detects the power of each voice source. Positions of previous voice sources. The directions of voice sources are determined based on these three pieces of information. Note When your counterpart at the remote party is speaking, voice-directional detection is not performed. Therefore, when the speaker and the remote party speak at the same time, camera switching does not function properly. Because camera switching should not be performed for unimportant sounds such as short answers, the camera does not face to the next speaker for several seconds after the speaker is detected and the camera is moved. Principle of face recognition Faces in an image are recognized based on their outline, and color difference from the backdrop. Face position information once recognized is stored in a database. Because the information is stored, even if a recognized face goes out of the screen, it can be tracked easily with the Next Face Centering function and other functions.. Note Under the following cases, the faces of participants cannot be recognized correctly. Adjust the camera position, zoom, and screen brightness for correct recognition. OK OK The size of Participant's face is more than 1/10 of the entire space of the screen. NG Participant's entire face is not within the screen. NG Participant's face is tilted to the left or right. NG Participant's face is too small. NG Participant's face does not face the camera directly Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 4

Installation for Speaker Tracking mode Note the following when installing the device to detect the speaker more correctly. Distance between the speaker and the tracking camera Install the camera 1 m to 4 m away from participants horizontally. The detection range may become shorter depending on your environment, for example, when there is any noise source such as a projector close to the system. Do not place obstacles between the participants and the camera. over 1 m (3.3 ft) over 4 m (13.2 ft) Range within which voice-directional detection is applicable The range of the voice-directional detection is 60 degrees to the right and left from the center and the detection accuracy is ±10 degrees. Install the camera so that participants are covered within this range. 60 degrees 60 degrees ±10 degrees 2006 Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 5

Distance between the tracking camera and walls Do not install the camera close to a wall. If the tracking camera is installed close to a wall, reflected speaker's voice is detected and the camera may malfunction. Install the camera at least 1 m away from walls and other obstacles (distance differs depending on the material of walls etc.) for more correct recognition. over 1 m (3.3 ft) Training The tracking camera provides a training function that lets you teach the camera about the positions of participants by searching the camera's shooting range automatically. Execute the training in advance after participants take their seats to increase the accuracy of the left and right movements made to face speakers in speaker tracking and next face centering. Training is performed from right to left, from lowermost position to uppermost position four times Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 6

Next Face Centering mode This is a mode in which the Face Recognition function is used to face the camera towards an adjacent (right or left) participant directly with the Remote Commander. Overview of operation Regardless of whether there is a speaker or not, pressing the 1 button on the Remote Commander automatically faces the camera to the immediately left participant from the current camera position; pressing the 3 button, to the immediately right participant. When a switching instruction of Preset 1 or 3 from counterpart's terminal is received, the camera faces to the adjacent (left or right) person. The camera keeps searching for participants one by one in the camera's moving direction. When it reaches the limit in the direction, it stops. When no participant is detected, the camera stops and stands by for the next operation. The operation mode does not finish automatically. Note The PCS-G70/G70P provides the preset function to set up the positions of the camera. However, because Presets 1 and 3 are used to operate the camera in this mode, they are not available. Use Presets 2, 4, 5, and 6. When the camera could not detect any participant and stopped, use the 1 or 3 button on the Remote Commander whichever available to move the camera. When the 1 button is pressed. When the 3 button is pressed. Stops Principle of face recognition Same as Speaker Tracking mode. Installation in Next Face Centering mode Same as Speaker Tracking mode. See the "Installation for Speaker Tracking mode" section. Principle of face recognition Same as Speaker Tracking mode Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 7

Presenter mode This is a mode in which a moving object in the frame is detected and the camera angle is automatically adjusted to keep the object centered in the frame. Use Presenter mode when you want to keep the camera on a specific speaker, such as during a lecture. Overview of operation The camera waits for a moving object to be detected in the frame. When a moving object is detected, the moving object detection area is limited to 2/3 vertically and 1/2 horizontally, and the camera angle is automatically adjusted so that the moving object detection area is positioned at the center of the screen. When its movement stops, the camera returns to the standby status (waiting for a moving object to be detected). Repeating this operation realizes the function to automatically track the presenter. When the moving object cannot be detected correctly, the camera stops and stands by for the next operation. The operation mode does not finish automatically.* 2 *2: For example, when no moving object is detected in Presenter mode, the camera stops and waits for a moving object to be detected. Detects areas of movement within the frame. Once detected, the detection area is set to 2/3 vertically and 1/2 horizontally of the size of the screen. The moving object has stopped, or the camera was unable to keep up with the movement. The camera angle adjusts to move the detection area to the center of the screen Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 8

Principle of moving object detection First, the motion vector information of each image is extracted from image difference. Moving objects are detected by processing this motion vector information statistically to detect the same motion direction and same motion amount. If using this processing only, because the background moves also when the camera moves, all objects are detected as moving objects. Therefore, the moving objects are detected by considering the characteristics of the motion of people and the size of moving objects in the image frame shot by the camera, and the direction and amount of camera motion are finally determined. Installation for Presenter mode Note the following when installing the device to track the presenter more correctly. Positional relation between the camera and the presenter Place the camera at least 3 m away from the presenter. In addition, install it so that the distance from the camera does not change greatly even if the presenter moves. Note The camera will not adjust the zoom automatically in Presenter mode. The zoom position is constant from the start of the mode. The recognition size of the camera is about the size of a person who extends their arms horizontally and fits in the frame. Manually adjust the zoom beforehand. Avoid moving objects such as audience between the camera and the presenter. The camera may not track the presenter correctly, and may track another moving object automatically. Avoid moving objects within the range where the presenter moves Avoid moving objects (window, TV, projector screen, assistant of presentation, etc.) within the range where the presenter moves. The camera may not track the presenter correctly, and may track another moving object automatically. The camera may recognize a background object (such as an object out of the window) as a moving object and track it. Information You can use Demo mode to display the frame indicating the moving object detection area. Enter the "TCB" service command with the PCS-G70/G70P. Example of installing the camera Screen Platform Audience 2006 Sony Corporation June, 2006 / Ver 1.0 9

TERMINAL VISCA OUT Tracking Camera () Remarks (common to all modes) When no mode is specified, the camera operates as a standard camera (equivalent to the PCSA-CG70/CG70P). In any mode, the user can use pan/tilt and zoom operations with the Remote Commander. The current mode does not finish automatically when the Remote Commander is used. Note that the user cannot use the Remote Commander during training. You can select an operation mode and turn off the tracking camera mode with the Camera menu even during videoconferencing. When you upgrade the software for the PCS-G70/G70P, the program for the may be upgraded automatically. Upgrading the software takes several minutes. Do not turn off the power during upgrading. Connection between the PCS-G70/G70P and the The PCS-G70/G70P lets you connect and control up to 4 cameras. However, connect only one to the MAIN CAMERA terminal.
