1 KUNO is a lively and ambitious Nordplus network comprising 16 Nordic-Baltic fine art academies, aiming to become an art university without walls. By cooperating on a wide range of project activities, the member institutions commit themselves to the continued development of higher fine art education in the region. A major KUNO event in 2010 is the admission of new students to Nordic Sound Art, an MA programme offered jointly by academies in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. The Royal Danish Academy of Arts, Schools of Visual Arts, is the coordinating institution, with composer and sound artist Rune Søchting as the driving force. Priority is given to students from the five organizing institutions, and interested students from other KUNO academies may also be admitted.

6 EXCHANGE EXPRESS COURSES SOUND INSTALLATION EXPRESS COURSES Nordic Sound Art Intensive Course; Sound Installation Workshop/seminar by Alejandra Salinas and Aeron Bergman Installation, site specificity, gardens and expanded architecture Students will choose and occupy a space. Produce an intervention in the space that alters its function, calls attention to its characteristics or transports it. Keeping in mind the differences and similarities of theater and architecture, the space could be inside or outside the teaching facilities. You can use digital tech if necessary, but we encourage analogue interventions. Since there is always a sound element in an installation, the intervention need not be exclusively and strictly a sound work. Series of lectures. We will do close readings in groups of assigned texts. Project: students will choose and occupy a space. Group critiques with Rebecca Mazzei, director of MOCA Detroit. Group critiques with Trine Friis Sørensen, curator currently pursuing a PhD at Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at University of Copenhagen. The 2009 KUNO Teachers Seminar in Umeå, October, aimed to provide some answers to these fundamental questions. Download pdf KUNO Teachers Seminar 09 - programme ACADEMIC ART LIFE VERSUS REAL ART LIFE The relationship between art institutions and art education seem quite an essential topic these days, when borders between studying art and being an artist seems more and more hard to draw. The statement was made by Marko Mäetamm, artist and dean of Fine Arts at the Estonian Academy of Arts. The 2008 KUNO Teachers Seminar took place at EAA in Tallinn. Download pdf Academic Art Life versus Real Art Life TOOLS FOR TEACHING On Fidelity: Art, Politics, Passion and Event was the title of Mary Kelly s lecture at theˇ 2007 Teachers Seminar in Bergen. The professor of Art and Critical Theory at the UCLA Department of Art is well known for her pioneering educational work. Together with another pioneer, Reem Fadda, Academic Director at International Academy of Art Palestine, Kelly introduced profound perspectives on contemporary fine art education. Their lectures triggered enthusiasm and intense discussions among the 40 participants from all the KUNO partner institutions.
