1 Introduction ASIC s provides educators with the knowledge, skills, strategies and teaching materials to teach consumer and financial literacy. It comprises two free modules for primary and secondary educators. The modules feature interactive professional learning with expert interviews, case studies in schools, and scenarios. Anyone is welcome to register in. Australian school educators are encouraged to complete the formal offline elements of the primary and secondary modules to gain recognition for undertaking Continuing Professional Development. However, learners may undertake only the online elements of the modules to simply gain an understanding of consumer and financial literacy education. For information about the MoneySmart Teaching initiative please visit the website at Learning schedule has been designed for flexible learning. Once registered, learners can complete a module at their own pace with online and offline elements undertaken to suit teaching programs. ASIC will check with learners their intention to complete a module on a semester basis. The schedule below is intended as a guide only. 2 Before you start Use the following checklist before you undertake a module. Provide school principal or senior leader with letter outlining course (attached to this Learner guide) Print existing school curriculum documents/mapping Print existing relevant school units of work Ensure that you have access to a printer or a portable memory device such as a USB Gaining recognition For Australian school educators, is recognised as Continuing Professional Development. Educators who complete formal elements of this program will assemble a portfolio of work and receive a Certificate of Completion. Once the certificate is endorsed by their School Principal (or appropriate senior school leader) it can be submitted to the relevant state/territory authority and may count towards meeting the professional learning requirements for teacher registration and renewal. See the table of National Professional Standards for Teachers (attached to this Learner guide) and check how the modules align to the standards. Portfolio of work The portfolio should include evidence that you have undertaken the online elements and formal offline elements of the module. Use this portfolio when seeking endorsement of the Certificate of Completion from the School Principal (or appropriate school leader). The portfolio should include: completed module templates (school based curriculum audit, unit of work planner, unit of work reflection template) class survey analysis unit of work delivered to students examples of student work Certificate of Completion Learner help Please moneysmartteaching@asic.gov.au for all enquiries about. 2

3 Would you like to share? The MoneySmart Teaching Team is looking for consumer and financial literacy school case studies and new teaching resources created by Australian educators. If you are interested in sharing your work with other teachers please the team: Technical requirements PC or MAC with an internet access, (connection speed should be 5 MB or more), and a modern web browser. The officially supported web browsers are: Internet Explorer 8 and 9 (Windows) Firefox 4 and 10 (Windows) Google Chrome (Windows) Safari 5.05 (OS X) Firefox 10 (OS X) With the exception of Internet Explorer 10, most later versions of the above browsers will also work well, (but are not yet officially supported). 3

4 Alignment to National Professional Standards for Teachers Teacher completion of MoneySmart Online modules are aligned to the following National Professional Standards for Teachers (AITSL).
