RESPONSE TO QUESTION ASKED OF ALL PRESIDENT ELECT AND DIRECTOR CANDIDATES What strategic steps should ARMA take to support an organization s and/or professional s transition from a focus on RIM to a broader IG focus? ARMA International needs to focus on positioning itself among professionals, organizations, related information management professional organizations and related information management professions as the leader in all areas of information governance. On the organizational and profession level, ARMA needs to be able to show the value of enterprise-wide management of information. On the individual level, ARMA needs continue to produce a variety of educational venues that reflect a broader IG focus, yet target specific needs of our professional members. RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS ASKED OF ALL PRESIDENT ELECT CANDIDATES: What do you consider ARMA International s number one threat and number one opportunity? How might ARMA best mitigate the threat and capture the opportunity? Expansion of higher education educational opportunities is, in my estimation, the number one threat and opportunity facing ARMA and the RIM/IG community at large. Through ARMA, the RIM/IG profession has made great strides in getting its internal educational offerings in order in the past several years, ARMA and the profession at large must now focus RIM/IG and higher educational opportunities in order to further grow the profession and our professionals in the next five years. To mitigate the threat and capture a wonderful opportunity, ARMA must focus on RIM/IG and higher education in the United States and around the world. ARMA must lead the way in setting the standards for RIM/IG degree programs, on both the undergraduate and the graduate level. In addition, ARMA must reach out to higher education institutions to actively promote the creation and continued success of RIM/IG degree programs.
6 How will you strategically build on ARMA's global vision, core purpose and mission to advance the profession and the professional? To build on ARMA s vision, purpose and mission, ARMA and the profession must continue to foster greater outside awareness of the RIM/IG profession. We do a good job of educating ourselves about the need for RIM/IG programs but have quite a way to go in alerting and educating people in associated professions, such as IT, and the business, governmental and academic worlds as a whole. ARMA has made great strides in growing outside awareness of the profession in the last several years and the profession must build on this foundation. To advance the profession, ARMA must provide aturation of understanding of the RIM/IG profession as well as the role of ARMA in the RIM/IG profession in the business, legal and IT professions as well as the general world at large.
