1 We are seeking youth who are: 24 years old and under living in and around Vancouver interested in gaining and enhancing their facilitation skills eager to learn more about social justice want to learn about social justice history in Vancouver willing to share what they learn with diverse communities excited to gain video-making and editing skills This project will span from February 2015 June 2015 and will provide opportunities for youth of various backgrounds to (including but not limited to: cultural heritage, abilities, gender, age, sexual orientation, faith, and income levels): receive training on facilitation, anti-oppression, and diversity learn about Anne Frank s history and facilitate tours through the Anne Frank Exhibition organize and guide a social justice bus tour in Downtown Vancouver create short films about cultural and historic monuments in Vancouver and their messages and meanings explore and uncover the untold stories of Vancouver s history past and present Please note a commitment to the first two trainings sessions on March 7th, 2015 (10am 4pm) and March 8th, 2015 (1pm 5pm) are mandatory, however we encourage everyone to apply. For more information on project activities please see the project descriptions on the last page. ** If selected, you will receive ongoing training and project support, as well as have an opportunity to meet likeminded people and make friends. Participants who complete the program will receive honoraria and certificates of completion from the Anne Frank Museum of Amsterdam and PeerNetBC. **

6 Anne Frank Memory Walk Vancouver Project Descriptions *Please note: participants have a choice to be involved with all streams in some capacity. 1. Anne Frank House Exhibition (February, March, May & June 2015) * Commitment is not expected for all four months; participants will rotate shifts & locations. Learn about the history of Anne Frank and participate in training to guide the travelling exhibition Co-guide a tour of the Anne Frank Exhibition (hosted at various Neighbourhood Houses in Vancouver) Co-facilitate discussions about discrimination and diversity Engage community groups in conversations about the naming of monuments and explore alternative options 2. Downtown Historical Tour (April & May 2015) * 4 5 participants will be involved with organizing the tour, while the rest will be tour participants (weekly or bi-weekly meetings; to be determined) Work with a team to co-organize the logistics of a social justice bus tour Outreach to community individuals, groups, and organizations Learn about some of the social justice history in Downtown Vancouver Share that history as a tour guide Co-facilitate discussions about access to social justice history Engage community groups in conversations about the naming of monuments and explore alternative options 3. Memory Walk Film-Making (May 25 th, 2015 May 29 th, 2015) * All participants can take part; must be able to commit to all five days. Participate in full day trainings Research a particular monument and film and interview people s perceptions of it on the street Create a film with the guidance of professional editors on cultural and historic monuments in Vancouver and their messages and meanings Explore and uncover untold stories of Vancouver s history present and past Share the film and engage community groups in conversations about the naming of monuments and explore alternative options
