2 Tadeusz Ferenc The President of the City of Rzeszów It is a great honor for the Capital of Podkarpacie region to host such a prestigious sporting event. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude to the Authorities of the World Archery Europe (WAE) and the Polish Archery Federation for their great deal of trust. I am convinced that if it was not for the resilient efforts of the Rzeszów Regional Archery Association (ROZŁucz.), we would not have been able to organize championships of this magnitude. With a great deal of acknowledgement I think of the commitment of ROZŁucz.'s Members and fruitful cooperation with the City officials. Thanks to the European Championships, Rzeszów, the City of long-cultivated archery traditions, earns a great opportunity for international publicity. I would also like to direct few words of appreciation towards the national teams participating in sporting endeavors in front of archery target stands. I wish many unforgettable emotions to Members and Coaches, and countless well-aimed hits as well as fair play duels to all the Competitors. Participation in the Championships is certainly a great success to all of them, however winning would most definitely constitute a crowning achievement in their careers. May the best win! I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my best regards to the Judges. I believe that the sporting spirit, which you solemnly safeguard, will go hand in hand with courteous encouragement of all archery fans gathering in Rzeszów's Podpromie Arena. I am deeply convinced that with joint efforts of so many people and institutions, the European Archery Indoor Championships will become a genuine sporting holiday. I would like to cordially welcome all the competitors, coaches and fans of competitive archery that honored the Capital of Podkarpacie region with their presence at the European Archery Indoor Championships Rzeszów 0. The Championships are certainly of great significance not only to the participating contestants, but also to all lovers of competitive archery, who have impatiently anticipated this great sporting event to be held. As the host of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship I am honored that our region has yet another opportunity of organizing archery championships of this magnitude. I sincerely hope that the time spent here will provide our contestants with many precious moments, and allow them to pursue their sporting passions. I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage all the guests who arrived in Podkarpacie to visit our beautiful region famous not only for its attractive and pristine nature, but also for a number of spectacular historic monuments. Competitive archery is not only the ability to use the sporting equipment. Above all, it is a discipline that requires extraordinary precision, years of practice, and perfect harmony between human body and spirit. I believe that the European Archery Championships held in Rzeszów will overflow with momentous sporting achievements, and that for many participating contestants will constitute a place of breaking consecutive records and overcoming own imperfections. 4 Mario Scarzella WAE President As the President of the World Archery Europe, it is a great honour for me to be able to welcome the archers, officials and spectators to the European Archery Indoor Championships in Rzeszow, Poland. We are very pleased that the Polish Archery Federation accepted the responsibility of hosting these European Championships. We are grateful to the city of Rzeszow, the volunteers and staff for their commitment to make these Championships a success. We look forward to having an extremely successful European Championships in Rzeszow. 5 Jacek Trojnar Chairman of The Organizing Committee The four-day European Archery Indoor Senior and Junior Championships Rzeszów 0 are another prestigious competition hosted in the City of Rzeszów. I would like to thank the World Archery Europe headquartered in Rome for their great deal of trust in delegating this function to the Capital of the Podkarpacie region. This year we will be welcoming 8 competitors from countries. They will compete in four categories in both divisions, recurve and compound. The first three days are dedicated for official practice and eliminations held at the Podpromie Sports Arena. The Championships' finals will be held at the Rzeszów Hotel. For more details concerning the tournament please visit our website at or see the information folder. It is my dream for Rzeszów to become the capital of world archery. And this dream is not unattainable. Our City brings together many people that are passionate about this beautiful discipline and offer their support in many different of ways. Among them, I would like to distinguish my colleagues from this year's organizing committee, and volunteers members of the Rzeszów Archery Team. These are the young people of junior high schools and high schools of Rzeszów, who dedicate their time and energy for the organization of this major sporting event. I would also like to extend special thanks to the President of the City of Rzeszów, Mr. Tadeusz Ferenc, who, as a passionate athlete supported our cause on many different levels. I would also like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the continuously reliable local media, which cover and promote this year's Championships. In archery, like in case of all sport disciplines, many things are prone to changes equipment, competitors, rules and regulations, technical requirements. We know how to be a step ahead of those changes and how to guarantee the greatest possible conditions for our visiting athletes. Archery is in my blood, as I myself used to compete, instruct, and coach, and now I am

6 guiding the Rzeszów Archery Team. Therefore, it makes me very proud that in the minds of the competitors previous Championships held in 009 were considered to be the best. Owing to skillful organization, which included superb lighting and sound systems, as many as 6 world records were broken. I wish the best of luck to all this year's archers in setting new world and life records. I guarantee that we will do our best to make you feel like you're at home. The rivalry will take place in the venue built by the effort of generations of CWKS Resovia members. The honour of organization of European Archery Championships was given to our sports club as a result of years of efforts, preparations and sacrifice. 12 OPENING CEREMONY What can we expect during the Opening Ceremony of the European Championships? Our concept combines artistry and sport. The idea that unites those two disciplines signifies hard work and persistence in pursuing goals. We would most certainly like to demonstrate the link between Rzeszów and archery. After all, we hosted the World Indoor Archery Championships in 009. The Opening Ceremony will most definitely be a modern and graceful event full of cheer and moments of gravity. We want to manifest what is Polish and European. The motto for the European Championships is Rhythm of the Heart, which is considered as the best description of the atmosphere created with the participation of this year's competitors. We look forward to seeing you! Written and directed by Hubert Bisto - Polish artist, composer, writer and director. Born and raised in Rzeszów, he won multiple awards on various festivals of international importance. For his debut gold album, Hubert has received many prestigious awards, including the most important - the award granted by the Polish Radio. Hubert was also the contractor for the official anthem of World Indoor Archery Championships Rzeszow 009. 13 VENUE & HOTELS Regional Sport and Recreation Centre Podpromie The Jan Strzelczyk Regional Center for Sports and Entertainment in Rzeszów is a sports and entertainment hall with a total area of over 5,000 sq. meters, located in the city center and covering an area of 40,000 sq. meters. The hall was designed by Stanisław Kus. The construction begun in the 70's, but the building was finished and put into operation on 6th June 00. The Regional Center for Sports and Entertainment in Rzeszów has the facilities for the disabled. The total capacity for spectators is 404 persons. 19 CITY OF RZESZÓW Some people may call our city small. We say it's cozy and homely. They might even say it's provincial. But we know we've got potential and we're not afraid to use it. Our guests can discover Rzeszów's charm in many different ways. For instance, the city's romantic character may be experienced during a stroll around the paved streets in the city center. Details of the renovated old apartment houses reflect the spirits of the past. At night, charming streetlamps welcome everyone for the spectacle of lights and shadow. Homelike cafés lure with sensational aromas of coffee, of which even Italians would be proud. Old chestnut trees by the avenue surrounding the old castle contribute to an unforgettable atmosphere of the city. However, it is not the only side of Rzeszów. Our city has ambition, aspirations, and potential for becoming the sports capital of Eastern Poland. The city offers a variety of attractions for both sports fans and athletes. Rzeszów hosts many national and world sporting events. Breathtaking emotions accompany such events as volleyball tournaments, professional boxing galas, rally championships, speedway Grand Prix, and championships in weightlifting, acrobatics, diving, and, naturally, in archery. Thanks to a multitude of events directed at children and youth, they get charmed with sports activities from the early age. We know that sports teach how to draw pleasure from healthy competition, principles of fair play, commitment and hard work. Pupils are able to try their hands at the Spring Street Runs, or Mini Piłka x football tournaments. Among most popular sports events there is Rzeszów Streetball Challenge a street basketball tournament directed at young people of all age groups, including school children, which is organized within the Extreme Day event. The city also has a sports offer dedicated to families: Rzeszów on bicycle, which encourages people for active leisure out in the fresh air. However, it is not only important WHAT kind of sporting events Rzeszów has to offer, but also WHERE to engage in different sporting activities. 95 kilometers of bicycle paths, a number of tennis courts, multifunctional sports fields, are only few out of many more investments that are taking place in Rzeszów. Freshly renovated and modern city stadium can certainly be considered as the City's flagship venue. We are delighted to be able to build new sports buildings at city's schools and mini sports fields at kindergartens.
