4 SUMMARY OF TRAINING AMCS offers an extensive suite of maritime related short courses. The courses scheduled within this programme will represent only around half of the programme actually delivered by AMC Search in 2015, as many more courses will be provided based on demand by clients often at short notice due to changes in work schedules and crewing arrangements. Many courses will also be delivered on client premises, providing a more cost effective and timely solution to client needs. 5 GENERAL INFORMATION AMC Search (AMCS) is working with the maritime industry to provide the training and services they want, offering the largest range of maritime solutions in Australia, utilising the internationally acclaimed resources of the Australian Maritime College, an institute of the University of Tasmania. Training Short Courses: includes all mandatory training required by STCW78 as amended, together with internationally accredited specialist short courses in Vessel Traffic Services (IALA accredited), Dynamic Positioning (NI accredited) and Ballast Stability Class B (IADC accredited). Tailored training to meet client requirements, incorporating client procedures/processes, forms 50% of the short course business. Access to extensive range of maritime specialists and experts. Examples include Mooring Operations, Safe Bulk Loading and Bulk Liquid Handling. Department of Defence Pacific Patrol Boat Contract held for 20+ years involves the provision of training, travel arrangements, food and accommodation, living allowances and pastoral and medical care for the crews of 22 Patrol boats from 12 Pacific nations. Consultancy services Consulting services offered by AMCS use the resources of the internationally renowned Australian Maritime College, and include: Research projects using College facilities and staff expertise in areas such as marine biology and environments, fisheries stock assessments, gear technology, ship hydrodynamics, electronics, navigation, marine and coastal engineering, safety and survival. Consultancy in ship design, port development and feasibility studies of maritime technology. Project-related joint ventures with other training institutions, government authorities, private companies and consulting organisations. Maritime Training Package The University of Tasmania, trading as the Australian Maritime College (AMC), is a registered Training Organisation and has a partnership agreement with AMC Search Ltd. This enables AMC to award Statements of Attainment (subject to students holding a Unique Student Identifier Number) within its scope of registration where short courses administered by AMCS have been deemed equivalent to units of competency with the Maritime Training Package. Unique Student Identifier (USI) In April 2012, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to the implementation of a specially designed tool called the USI to provide students with the ability to obtain a complete record of their VET enrolments and achievements from a single source. The USI initiative has been developed jointly by the Australian and State and Territory governments in consultation with stakeholders. It is supported through Commonwealth legislation, including the Student Identifiers Bill 2014, the Student Identifiers Act 2014, and through a national information Communication Technology (ICT) system. Students have the option to directly apply for a USI ww.usi.gov.au or the RTO upon receiving approval from the student can apply on their behalf. Only students who have provided or been issued with a USI from 1st January 2015 can be issued a qualification or statement of attainment. If students do not have a USI no qualification or statement can be issued. NOTE: USI applies to VET awards only. A USI is not required for the issue of certificates SHORT COURSE PROGRAMME 03

6 GENERAL INFORMATION Course Location Courses are conducted at the Australian Maritime College, Newnham Drive in Launceston Tasmania. Participants are recommended to fly into Launceston Airport. Complimentary car parking is provided on campus in areas designated to AMCS participants and clients. Flexible Delivery Where there is sufficient numbers of participants, many short courses can be conducted on demand, on client premises, interstate and internationally. Please contact the Deputy CEO or Course Administration Manager if you would like to discuss this option further. Course Fees Course fees listed in this programme are inclusive of GST, if applicable. Course Registration Course registrations can be made via or online at The online registration provides a secure online transmission of credit card details. Acknowledgement of registration will be provided by return . Confirmation of registration is provided upon payment of the course fees, and subject to AMCS registration terms. On Campus Accommodation On-campus accommodation is available at Norfolk Hall and can be reserved at registration. All meals are available in the AMC Cafeteria at economical prices Rate: $87 per person per night Registration Terms To secure course registrations payment of 50% of the course fee is required. Cancellations up to 15 working days prior to the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 15 working days will be subject to 100% cancellation fee. AMCS reserves the right to cancel a course if insufficient registrations have been received by seven days from commencement of course. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full. 7 COURSES Advanced Liquefied Gas Tanker This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to undertake safe, pollutionfree liquefied gas handling and transportation, and also supervise and train personnel involved in operations procedures. Certificate To be eligible for the issue of an certificate, candidates must possess: Prerequisite: - Australian issued Advanced Fire Prevention Certificate and a Australian issued Gas Tanker Familiarisation Certificate; or - A Certificate of Competency which is, or has been, Gas Tanker Safety endorsed. Course Dates: July 2015* and onsite. 4 days Course Fee: $2,000 *Limited places available on this course Advanced Oil and Chemical Tanker The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely handle, load, carry and discharge chemical tanker cargoes and the supervision and training of personnel involved in operation procedures. Certificate To be eligible for the issue of an certificate, candidates must possess either a: Prerequisite: - Australian issued Oil and Chemical Tanker Familiarisation certificate, Basic First Aid Certificate (including CPR) and Basic Fire Fighting Certificate; or - A Certificate of Competency which is, or has been, Oil or Chemical Tanker Safety endorsed. 8 Bridge Resource Management (BRM) BRM is ideal for deck and engineering officers together with maritime pilots and shore based personnel who have interaction with the shipping environment. The objective is to ensure that sound resource management practices underpin everyday operations. Course Dates: February May August November 2015 and onsite. 3 days Course Fee: $2,000 Bulk Carrier Operations The objective of this course is to provide participants with sufficient knowledge of the correct procedures in the cargo handling operation of a bulk carrier. The aims of the ship s officers, the stevedores and the cargo owners are the same, to get the cargo in or out of the ship in the quickest possible time, but there the similarity ends. This course provides participants with an understanding of the operational requirements of a bulk carrier during its brief port call and how to avoid delays through good communications with the vessel. 9 Certificate of Competency (CoC) Master, Deck and Engineer Officers Refresher The CoC Refresher course is designed for holders of an AMSA issued Certificates of Competency (Master, Deck and Engineer Officers) and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. Covering the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses, Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (CPSC) and Advanced Fire Fighting. 10 Certificate of Competency (CoC) Master, Deck and Engineer Officer Revalidation The Certificate of Competency (CoC) revalidation course is designed for Masters, Deck and Engineer Officers who do not hold the qualifying sea service and therefore need to undertake the full Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (CPSC), Advanced Fire Fighting and Security Awareness Training (SAT) courses in order to demonstrate continued competence. The course is designed in three parts, A, B and C. Part A is common to Masters/Deck and Engineer Officers, Part B is solely for Masters/Deck Officers and Part C for Engineer Officers. Part C is not offered by AMCS. 11 Certificates of Proficiency (CoP) Rating Refresher The CoP Rating refresher course is designed for holders of an AMSA Certificates of Proficiency as Rating (Integrated Rating, Able Seaman, Deck Rating or Engine Room Rating) and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. The course covers the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting and Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats. 12 Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (CPSC) This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform survival craft operations as required during shipboard emergency response situations. Entry Prerequisite: AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training or equivalent (assessed on an individual basis). 13 Certificates of Safety Training (CoST) Refresher The CoST refresher course is designed for holders of an AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. The course covers the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. 14 Chief Integrated Ratings (CIR) Refresher The CIR refresher course is designed for holders of an AMSA issued Chief Integrated Rating Certificate and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. The course covers the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses, Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (CPSC) and Advanced Fire Fighting. 15 Chief Integrated Ratings The Chief Integrated Rating course is as meeting the requirements of Marine Orders, Part 73. The course incorporates an Advanced Fire Fighting Course, and successful participants are issued Chief Integrated Ratings and Advanced Fire Fighting Certificates. Entry Prerequisite: Please note the following pre-requisite is for entry onto the course and evidence must be provided at enrolment point of the following: - AMSA issued Integrated Rating Certificate of Proficiency. Course Dates: March August days Course Fee: $4,048 Crisis Management Crisis Management and Human Behaviour and Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety & Hull Integrity training provides participants with the skills to organise the safe movement of vehicles and passengers when embarking and disembarking, control all elements of cargo safety and hull integrity, monitor and control atmosphere in ro-ro cargo spaces, organise shipboard emergency procedures, optimise use of resources, control response to emergencies, control passengers and other personnel during emergency situations and establish and maintain effective communications. This course covers minimum standard of competence for: masters, chief mates, chief engineers, second engineer officers and any other person assigned immediate responsibility for embarking and disembarking passengers, for loading, discharging or security cargo, or for closing hull openings and any other personal having responsibility for the safety of passengers in emergency situations. 16 Crowd Management Crowd Management Training and Safety Training for personnel providing direct service to passengers in passenger spaces provides participants with the skills to be able to control a crowd in an emergency situation on board, locate essential safety and emergency equipment on board, communicate effectively with passengers during an emergency, demonstrate the use of personal life-saving appliances and comply with the ship s safety and emergency procedures. This course meets the mandatory minimum requirements for the training of masters, officers, ratings and other personnel on ro-ro passenger ships and on passenger ships other than ro-ro passenger ships. Course Dates: Meeting the requirements of STCW78, as amended This course is scheduled on demand and can be conducted onsite. 1 day or 7 hours online Course Fee: Online: $360 On-campus: $500 On-site: Dependent upon venue Dockmaster Comprehensive A comprehensive course covering all aspects of dockmaster training. The course is usually delivered at the dock site, and can be tailored to cover specific aspects relating to the functions and characteristics of that particular dock. Course Dates: Course Fee: This course is scheduled on demand and can be conducted onsite. 5 days Dependent upon venue Dockmaster Refresher Refresher training designed to provide participants with the training required for the safe docking and undocking of commercial vessels into and out of dry docks (i.e. graving docks, floating docks, slip ways and synchrolifts). 17 Dynamic Positioning (DP) Basic (Induction) To provide the basic theoretical and practical knowledge in accordance with phase one of the Nautical Institute DPO training scheme. Entry Prerequisite: Participants must hold a Certificate of Competency minimum qualification: - STCW Regulation II/1 II/2 II/3 Deck; or - STCW Regulation III/1 III /2 III/3 Engine Nautical Institute approved Course Dates: Perth, WA Launceston, TAS February January April March May Apr 1 May June June August July 1 Aug October Sep 2 Oct November Nov 4 Dec days Course Fee: $3,850 On successful completion of the Induction/Basic course the prospective Dynamic Positioning Operator will be issued with a Nautical Institute s Dynamic Positioning Operator s logbook, which is included in the course fee. Dynamic Positioning (DP) Advanced (Simulator) The course involves principally simulated DP operations including errors, faults and failures giving the participants the opportunity to apply the lessons learnt in both the Induction/Basic course and the seagoing DP familiarisation. Entry Prerequisite: Participants must hold the following: 1. DP Basic (Induction) Certificate issued by a Nautical Institute approved training provider; and 2. 18 Dynamic Positioning (DP) Technical DP Technical (Engineer DP Familiarisation And Watchkeeping) is tailored to suit DP technical staff (Engineers and Electricians) currently working, or seeking to work on dynamically positioned vessels. The course combines technical detail with practical applications for operational experience. The course focuses on the complete DP system and its subcomponents; basic troubleshooting, maintenance routines, common failure modes and effects; as well as operational and watchkeeping requirements. Course Dates: Perth, WA Launceston, TAS Scheduled on demand May days Course Fee: $3,950 Dynamic Positioning (DP) Familiarisation/Awareness Familiarisation The course is tailored to suit project staff employed in offshore project design and installation engineering, as well as offshore supervisory roles. Roles that would benefit from the course include, but are not limited to: Field Engineers Project Managers Offshore Construction Managers Dive Supervisors ROV Supervisors Project Shift (Bridge) Supervisors Awareness This course is tailored to suit management staff of offshore construction contractors, DP vessel owners/operators, manning agents, oil field operators or other companies that own operate or utilise the services of DP equipped vessels. 19 ECDIS (including Type Specific Training) The Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS) course has been developed to provide the knowledge, skill and understanding of ECDIS and electronic charts to the thorough extent needed to safely navigate vessels whose primary means of navigation is ECDIS. Type Specific Candidates choose type specific training to undertake the ECDIS course. Knowledge of a ship s stability is not a process of memorising and blindly applying formula, but of understanding the principle behind the formula and the process of what is actually happening to the vessel s righting and trimming levers as the vessel changes the distribution of weight or buoyancy within its hull. Prerequisite: Stability 2 has a pre-requisite of successful completion of Stability 1, or a Certificate of Competency as Deck Watchkeeper or Mate/Master <500GT or equivalent, as a minimum. 30 Stevedoring and Terminal Operation Operational and Commercial Aspects of Stevedoring and Terminal Operation is aimed at upgrading skills and knowledge of shore-based supervisory staff and shipping officers in ship and cargo operations. The course can be adapted for shore-based staff dealing with different types of dry bulk or container/general cargoes. An overview of the operational, commercial and legal issues pertaining to the movement of cargo, shipping arrangements, charter parties and ship loading considerations such as stability and hull stress, load planning and ballast management control is provided. In addition, the relevant sections of IMO Conventions and Codes of Safe Practice are discussed together with cargo claims, casualties and consequences.
