7 Getting Personal With The Colonels Here are interesting facts and tidbits about members of the Eastern Kentucky basketball team. Some of these may be potential feature story ideas. Paul Jackson s father -- Bishop Wiley Jackson -- is the founder and pastor of Gospel Tabernacle Cathedral in Atlanta. JaVontae Hawkins has five siblings. Tommy Matthews had a job working for the United Way during the summer of Isaac McGlone once went on a mission trip to Louisiana to assist in hurricane relief efforts. Tommy Matthews plays the saxophone. What Have They Said About The Colonels? Give Eastern Kentucky credit because they kicked us for about 12 to 14 minutes there and we were on our heels offensively. We were turning the ball over and we could not stop them defensively. -- Roy Williams, North Carolina Head Coach March 15, 2007 after EKU went on a 32-9 run midway through the game in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament That s why we scheduled this game. That s the type of team you could see win a game or two in the NCAA Tournament, a la Florida Gulf Coast. Those are the type of teams you want to play, but you ve got to win. They certainly made that difficult tonight. -- Shaka Smart, Virginia Commonwealth Head Coach Dec. 5, 2013 after EKU lost at VCU by three points in overtime The game matched two teams capable of doing some damage in the NCAA tournament, and they didn t disappoint in a fun-towatch, wide-open affair that left both teams drained and VCU pushed to the limit. -- Tim Pearrell, Richmond Times-Dispatch Dec. 6, 2013 after EKU lost at VCU by three points in overtime I m telling you, we ve got this team on tape, on DVD, and they re a much better shooting team than this. So you ve got to give our guys credit for what they did defensively. -- Bo Ryan, Wisconsin Head Coach Tommy Matthews is the self-proclaimed world s fastest eater. Tommy Matthews once had a job finding scrap metal. Paul Jackson and Greg King were high school teammates at Martin Luther King Jr. HS in Georgia. Jaylen-Babb Harrison is a master barber, and he cuts hair for a lot his fellow student-athletes. EKU features an international flair in Three Colonels are from foreign countries: Jaylen Babb-Harrison (Canada), Jarelle Reischel (Germany) and Anthony Pratt Jr. (The Bahamas). Dec. 14, 2013 after EKU shot 21.1 percent from three-point range and lost at No. 4 Wisconsin First off, I think this a good win for our team because that might potentially be an NCAA Tournament team. They are a really good team with terrific guards. They do a really good job of changing defenses to keep teams off balance. -- Mark Gottfried, North Carolina State Head Coach Nov. 30, 2013 after EKU had a 10-point first half lead, led by six at the break and trailed by only three with six minutes to go We obviously feel fortunate because I thought Eastern Kentucky was well prepared. They played great. They played loose and certainly gave us everything we wanted.it was a hard-fought game and one in which we had to work our tail off for 40 minutes to come out with a win. -- Bill Self, Kansas Head Coach March 21, 2014 after EKU gave No. 2 seed Kansas all it could handle in the NCAA Tournament A Closer Look At The EKU Record Under Overall McHale Overall Home Away Neutral OVC (Regular Season) Monthly Records November December January February March Daily Records Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday EKU s Record When...
