RECE: Opportunity Leverage from unique solar resources Best Direct Solar Radiation in Africa, 2 nd in the World After Chile and the best testing conditions Learn from similar solar centres to support industry/jobs in Chile, Spain, USA, etc. Oportunity key highlights: Foster localization and local employment through testing and training Become a main hub for CSP in Africa by performing research in the planned Special Economic Zone. 3

RECE: Mission/Vision Mission To support the Northern Cape, South Africa and Southern Africa, by being a transformational leader in the development of the solar energy industry providing: Vision Employability Training: To provide excellence in education and skills development for solar energy workers. Localization Testing: To test Southern Africa components, and solar energy systems to support localization. Applied Research: To perform solution-focused research activities in collaboration with Universities and businesses. For the Northern Cape to use its unique world solar resources to become a Solar Energy hub for Southern Africa with a focus on CSP. 4

RECE: Employability Often RE projects are located in regions with high unemployment rates Lack of skills can hinder a local work force s ability to benefit from the employment opportunities Industry is often forced to look outside of local work force to fill necessary posts Local employees are employable only when: They are reliable They are well trained They are competitive 5
6 1. RECE: Localization Developers and IPPs wont t use local components unless: They are reliable They are long lasting They are competitive They are servicable and therefore they are BANKABLE SA industry needs testing facilities/services to be able to prove that their products are bankable 6

RECE: Physical Infrastructure The RECE is expected to become both: a centre for economic development in the Northern Cape a regional and continental hub for CSP and RE development To reflect these roles, the physical infrastructure should combine: Local Northern Cape design Green Star Certification (the first in the NC?) High-tech Image And in sum, showcase best practices in energy efficiency and RE technologies 8

11 2. Training Value Offer The RECE will be a source of skills to ensure that: 1. REIPPPP direct employment opportunities are filled by local workers 2. A sufficient pool of skills to sustain the development of local manufacturing and the creation of SMEs is available How? Delivering a comprehensive curricula: 1.
