8 MATC FY13 EFFICIENCIES MATC: A UCAT CAMPUS Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT) is the parent organization for Utah s eight regional applied technology colleges (ATC s). Established by the State of Utah, UCAT provides market-driven technical education through eight ATC s, meeting the needs of Utah s employers for skilled workers. ATC s prepare both adult and high school students to enter or advance in the workplace. The ATC s assist adults needing to prepare for or upgrade their career, high school students looking for hands-on education, or employers seeking a competitive workforce, UCAT offers a variety of career opportunities at its eight regional Applied Technology Colleges. st in 1 UCAT Highest Awarded COE Certificates 1,636 in FY13 st in 1 UCAT st in 1 UCAT Highest Average Enrolled Hours 257 per student Lowest Cost per Membership Hour $5. 76 per student Bridgerland ATC Ogden-Weber ATC Davis ATC Tooele ATC Mountainland ATC Uintah Basin ATC Southwest ATC Dixie ATC st in 1 UCAT th in 4 UCAT 3 rdin UCAT Highest Membership Hour Growth 52,721 in FY13 MATC Membership Hours 922,341 in FY13 MATC Cost per Headcount $1, per student LEADING THE UCAT CHARGE - IN GROWTH Mountainland Applied Technology College continues to experience unprecedented growth within the region. Despite the challenges that accompany that growth, the college continues to be a leader in production within the Utah College of Applied Technology system. During the past year, MATC produced the largest number of Council on Occupational Education accredited certificates statewide for the second year in a row, was one of only two ATC s to experience an increase in membership hours, and had the largest growth in membership hours out of all the Utah College of Applied Technology campuses for the year. 8 MATC ANNUAL PROFILE

9 MATC FY13 EFFICIENCIES LEADING THE UCAT CHARGE - IN EFFICIENCIES MATC s efficiencies are unmatched. MATC had the lowest cost per membership hour, the highest average hourly rate for attendance, and one of the lowest costs per headcount within the UCAT system. MATC continues to be the fastest growing ATC in Utah and provides quality education for employment. The MATC Board of Directors, Administration, and Faculty are extremely proud of the accomplishments of the college and its students. Continued growth in enrollment and productivity is anticipated for many years to come. 10 MATC PARTNERS IN EDUCATION MATC / UVU Articulation Credit toward a UVU AAS Degree in Technology The Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) and Utah Valley University (UVU) Articulation credit agreement was developed to assist students in continuing their education. Students can receive UVU credit for non-credit coursework completed at the MATC. This agreement satisfies almost half of the credit requirements toward an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Technology. MATC students can receive 14 credit hours toward the Core Requirements and 16 credit hours toward the Elective Requirements for a total of 30 credit hours. I am pleased to support the articulation agreement between Utah Valley University (UVU) and Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) that was completed in spring This agreement allows MATC students with technical certificates in 900+ hour programs to receive credit at UVU in the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Technology degree. Students who follow this pathway will enter UVU with almost half of their AAS degree completed. This partnership between our two institutions builds on the stackable-credential model, since graduates in the AAS program can then apply it directly to our Bachelor of Science in Technology Management program. This is a welcome opportunity for both MATC and UVU, and I anticipate that it will encourage many students to continue their education. We have had MATC students use this agreement and I am impressed with their level of academic merit and commitment to higher education. I look forward to welcoming more MATC students and creating additional collaborative opportunities between our two institutions. 11 MATC Associated General Contractors Agreement The AGC Agreement creates a partnership with the Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) that is essential for the AGC of Utah s Apprenticeship Programs to move forward. The primary goal of the agreement is to see apprentices gain the necessary skills, proficiency in the trade, and attain a Journeyman status through the Department of Labor/Office of Apprenticeship (DOL/OA). The advantages of apprenticeship training are clear: greater chances for advancement, job security, faster pay advancements upon completion, and certification from the DOL/OA. The Associated General Contractors (AGC) could not be more pleased with the service experience and results of the partnership we have enjoyed with MATC and UCAT. We have been able to accomplish more in a short period of time than we had ever hoped for. We simply could not have had a successful apprenticeship and training program without their dedication and commitment to the success of the employees of our member firms. Richard J. Thorn agc-utah.org President/CEO, AGC of Utah MATC MATC PN to RN Program with Weber State University WSU The MATC / Weber State University (WSU) PN to RN program was developed for MATC-PN graduates who currently have or who plan to hold a PN license (LPN) in the state of Utah. After successful completion of the Practical Nurse (PN) program with MATC and prerequisite requirements, students are eligible to apply to Weber State University to the WSU PN to RN program to receive either: an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) or an Associate of Science (AS) Registered Nurse Degree. I would recommend MATC Practical Nursing (LPN) program to anyone looking to work in the nursing profession. The instructors are amazing with their real life experiences that they bring to the classroom; they are always willing to help students do their best. This program not only prepared me for employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse but also gave me the opportunity to continue my educational goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) through the PN to RN program agreement between Weber State University (WSU) and MATC. Amanda Johnson, LPN WSU Registered Nurse Student weber.edu/nursing MATC Custom Fit Partnership The Custom Fit program provides a dynamic partnership between MATC and employers for their training needs. The mission of the Custom Fit program is to provide customized training to meet the needs of local business and industry. This unique program offers employers and employees the benefit of state of the art facilities and curriculum customized to meet their specific needs. The Utah State Legislature appropriates funds each year as an investment in Utah s economy through the Custom Fit program which ensures that tax dollars are returned to boost the local economy. One of our major needs that we had was training our people to use lean technologies to transform our organization. MATC Custom Fit was great because they were able to tailor to our specific training needs as a company. We were able to achieve a direct savings of one million dollars in the first six to eight months of the program and expect to see four million dollars of savings by the end of this year. It wasn t just a matter of the training; to Custom Fit it was about practical application and real involvement. It was about the trainees career paths and the success of our company.
