3 Greeting message from the Principal On behalf of everyone who conform and take part of the UTEG, I give you the most heartfelt welcome. Our university has the mission of creating proactive, critic, and competitive professionals, always having present principles and human values. Our academic community is constantly found in progress and growth, it is because of that motive that we are concerned about of taking care of every detail, in order to let our present and future students enjoy the best educational experience of both third and fourth level. In order to fulfil these purposes, our institution is found in a process of continuous improvement, that will lead to us to reach the maximum grade of academic excellency, and in these sense, we are currently building our own academic campus, which will be ready at the end of this present year, In the academic sense, our university has a faculty made up by professionals that fill in the gaps of the required profiles for careers and programs that the institution offers, with a dedication time destined to teaching, management, research and collectiveness linking. The area of Scientific Research, constitutes another scope of great relevancy; we are currently holding projects that are being executed, and as a result of this effort, we are being capable of launching (in March) the third edition of our magazine of Scientific Research Science and Technology, which is both nationally and internationally distributed, and will turn into an indexed international magazine. Academic Wellbeing, counts with more than 20 programs of student services, among them: psychological assistance, medical department, scholarship and discount program, and a graduated monitoring program. UTEG is a young and dynamic institution, which counts with high-quality professionals in both academic and administrative fields. 4 In March 6th 1995 the Instituto Tecnológico de Comercio (INTESCO) was found. Its objective was to form leaders and technologists, able to incorporate in the 21 st Century according to the exigencies of the new globalized economy. As a consequence of growth and well-received attention to the INTESCO, in the year 2000, the Universidad Tecnológica Empresarial de Guayaquil is born, as a private institution with juridical personnel, autonomous and non-profit, created and approved under Law , published in the Official Registry No. 6, in January 31 st From its very beginning, UTEG has had a clear objective: to act as a fundamental piece for the intellectual, cultural and technological development to the Higher Educational System of the Ecuador. Nowadays, the principal of the university is the economist Galo Ernesto Cabanilla Guerra, whom, with a innovative management and with a high critic sense, directs the steps of the university towards its growth and strengthening characterized by its academic excellency. Mission To form proactive, critic and competitive professionals, using an educative model of theory-practice, able to develop innovative projects for the benefit of the society, based on principles and human values. Vision For 2013, the will be positioned as an acknowledged and specialized institution in the entrepreneurial scope, generating complementary services and developing research projects and continuous improvement. Institutional principles To form professionals with proactive mentality, that confirm the values and ideals of nationality, social justice, democracy, peace, solidarity and human rights defence. To study, analyze and compare regional, country and worldwide realities, identifying the problems in order to find solutions from a human and scientific scope. 6 Studies Present mode undergraduate careers Our careers in the present mode answer to the professional exigencies that the labour field demands, classes are given in comfortable classrooms, using cutting-edge technology, in both diurnal and nocturnal schedules, from Monday to Friday, where the teacher interacts directly with the students, applying the educational model conjugating theory and practice. In classes, research and work involving collectiveness entailment are motivated. The purpose of teaching through present mode and its all curricular and extracurricular components, is the formation of students that constitute as leaders of both present and future, that possess attitudes and competencies of venture, to be professionals aware of human value based relations, able to face the challenges of the changing world, and to become an added value for the development of the country. 7 Semi-Present Mode The semi-present mode was created as an answer to the necessity of the students to receive integral education, based in the mission of the university, which is forming proactive, critic and competitive professionals, combining theory and practice, in flexible schedules, in that way, UTEG established a special schedule, which involves technically classes on Saturdays of each week, strengthened by research and project development. Mercedes Conforme Continuous Education The Universidad Tecnológica Empresarial de Guayaquil (UTEG) knowing that globalization and its effects at the local economies level, have established as a new paradigm that differentiation and leadership of the organizations, especially from those that develop their activities in high competence markets, mainly lies in the quality of the human factor. From the excellency of professional teams, highly aligned, qualified and motivated, fundamentally depend of the variables of productivity, quality, competitiveness, and consequent profitability of the companies. With the objective of materializing the support in the benefit of the country, the (UTEG) created the Continuous Education Unit, as an academic entity, that has been constituted as an active agent for social, economical and cultural development of the Ecuador, using as a principal media, training, directed to every kind of audience, in order to improve personal and professional competencies, that may give birth to integral and harmonic growth of the Ecuadorian society.
9 International relations In 2011, the Universidad Tecnológica Empresarial de Guayaquil UTEG, proposed as an objective, to promote internationalization through cooperation and entailment with institutions and international organisms with prestige and continental and worldwide acknowledgement, in order to provide to the academic community the possibility to extend their professional horizons in cultural and academic learning, scientific research and technological innovation through the development of programs and projects. Main Objectives: To promote the image of the Universidad Tecnológica Empresarial de Guayaquil in an international scope. To develop programs of mobility between students of the UTEG and the institutions linked by present treaties. To promote management of faculties and the post grade school, highlighting the educative theoretical practical model applied in careers and Master s Degree s programs. To develop research projects, publications, field studies, international seminars with the linked institutions by present agreements. Belonging to nets, associations and international organisms acknowledged in the academic field. The homologue office in the hostess university will help perform registry paperwork demanded by the migration office. 12 Studying in a foreign country is a great change in every sense: arriving to an unknown city, getting to know a whole different culture, understanding the academic, organizational, and managerial organization of a new university. Because of that and of the help that the International Relations Department offers to exchange students, it has been though that it would be better to give them a closer support, creating the program UTEG Companion, which offers the opportunity to the students to participate in exchange students way of living, supporting them in the process of adaptation and adequacy to the new place. The International Relations Department is in charge of putting in contact each foreign student by previous solicitude with a UTEG student, by which certain criteria are taken into account: personal interests of each one, languages, personal experiences, likes and preferences. The selection of the UTEG Companions consists in the search of voluntary people inside of the academic community to receive or to be the guides to foreign students that reside in Guayaquil during the interchange period. The UTEG Companion program has the following objectives: The integration of the exchange students in the university and in the city of Guayaquil Help the foreign students to adapt to the academic and social life of the UTEG The enrichment in the domain of language, culture and customs on both sides Providing accommodation to the exchange student And above all, the development of a friendship between the two students Important Information 1. Requirements for obtaining a student s visa in Ecuador 1. Identify Ecuador consulate in the country of origin 2. Request formulary for student s visa 12-V (this visa is valid for a year) 3. Two carnet size photographs 4. Passport with minimum validity of six months 5. Rate payment 6. Plane ticket back to the country of origin 7. Inscription certificate (issued by the Higher Education Institution in which the student will be attending while residing in Ecuador) 8. Economic solvency certificate (who will pay their stay in Ecuador)
13 Important Notes Visa request cost: $30,00 (US dollars) Visa cost: $100,00 (confirm price in Ecuadorian consulate in the country of origin) Do not proceed to the renovation of the 12-V Visa, when the titular has failed the year Every exchange student must count with overseas medical insurance Arriving in Ecuador for foreign students or exchange, during the first 30 days of stay in the country must register with the Directorate of Immigration and bear the following documentation: 1. Letter of application for registration of visa Non - Immigrant (12-Visa) 2. Original certificate of Visa 3. Copy of passport (colored) including foreign data sheet 4. Sheet consular visa stamp (record last exit and entrance to Ecuador) The International Relations Department assists students in all concerning the legalization procedures. Life in Guayaquil Living in Guayaquil is a rewarding experience for any visitor from abroad; our city is very welcoming, modern and cosmopolitan. Our University is located in the northern city, in a residential area, safe and easily accessible. The city center, the main sites tourist, shopping and other attractions are just minutes from the UTEG. For now we have no accommodation, but in our campus a room area is being constructed to welcome students from abroad. The International Relations Department helps visitors to get more affordable housing and transportation. Regularly, living in Guayaquil costs: Monthly housing: $300 Alimentation costs by month: $250 to $350 Transport by month: $100 to $150 Additional benefits of the UTEG for exchange students The Academic Wellbeing Department is a solid-structured entity at the service of the students, either national or foreign. 15 On November 2011, the construction of the new UTEG campus was initiated, located in the km 7 ½ via a la Costa, in a 4000 hectares terrain; this is a economical, social and architectural developed zone in the City of Guayaquil. In this place is being constructed a modern structure that will comply to the quality standards that higher education demands. Labs, smart classrooms, extended recreational areas (courts, swimming pools, resting places), accommodation zones, and libraries, among other areas will be a part of our campus. The beaches show their own contrast allowing observing and admiring the sunset right in front of the beach. The traditions of the Valdivia and Huancavilca culture are still present. Our prestigious institution is located in this city, also known as Perla del Pacífico, it is a city filled with kind people, the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport is one the main motors in our city, and it is located in Av. De las Américas, 15 minutes away from the UTEG. The airport of the city counts with private security 24 hours a day and door-to-door transport. The international airport of Guayaquil is the second most important one in the country, and it is considered as one of the bests in Latin America, it operates with flights inside of the country, to America, and to some cities in Europe, such as Amsterdam and Madrid. It is located at 5km away from the center of the city, and it can be reached by many of transports that arrive to Guayaquil. It can be possible to do this trip in taxis, which are located right outside the airport terminal. There are also special transports that connect several points in the country. From Quito, many companies leave the terminal and do the route. Besides, you can reach Santiago de Chile or Lima via bus. The trip may be longer, but cheaper.
