Itiscriticalthatyoufollowthestepsinthisguideexactlyinorderforyoursystemtofunction properly. Onceyoucompletethestepsoutlinedinthisguideyouwillbeabletomakeandreceivecalls,use HUD,andperformmoves,adds,andchangesusingtheFonalityAdminPanel. EvenifyouarenotusingVoIP,yourFonalityPhoneSystemneedstoreceivemoves,adds,and changes(macs)madeviathefonalityadminpanelthroughyourinternetconnection. Pleasenote:ifyourInternetconnectionfails,youwillnotbeabletousetheFonalityAdminPanel tomakeconfigurationchanges;however,yourfonalityphonesystemwillbeabletomakeand receivecallsviaadedicatedprioranaloglinesevenwithoutyourinternetconnection. 5

6 1.3WarningsaboutFirewalls Ifyouplanonusingremotephonesora3 rd partyvoipconnection,youwillneedtomakechanges toyourfirewall.manypopularfirewallsandroutersareincompatibleorunreliablewithremote phonesand3 rd partyvoipconnections. ThefollowingdevicesmaynotbeSIP compliant;fonalityrecommendsthatyouavoidusing: MicrosoftISARouter(s)/Firewall(s) Linksys/CiscoWRT54Gseriesrouters NetgearFVX538 Fonalitycustomersreportgreatsuccesswiththefollowingfirewalldevices: EdgewaterNetworksEdgeMarc4200series FortinetFortigate50(remotetelecommuter) FortinetFortigate60(mainoffice) CiscorouterwithQoScapability(2600series,etc.) LinksysBEFSR81(remotetelecommuter) WhileFonalityrecommendstheabovedevices,we*donot*supportthem.Pleasecontactyour vendorornetworkingspecialistforassistanceconfiguringthedevice(s)toworkwithyourfonality PhoneSystem. 1.4FirewallConfiguration Ifyouplantoprovidesoftphonesorhomephonestotelecommuters,orifyouaregoingtobeusing a3 rd partyvoipconnection,openthefollowingportsonyourfirewallaheadoftime: UDP5060(forphoneregistration) UDP (foraudiotraffic) TCP6600(forremoteHUD) IfyouhaveahardwareorsoftwareVPNsolutionbetweenthetelecommuter slocationandyour mainoffice,youdonotneedtoopenanyoftheportsabove. 6

7 2.0PreparingtoInstall 2.1TestyourNetwork YoushouldtestallnetworkcablesandequipmentyouplanonusingwithyourFonalityPhone System.UsethenewcablessuppliedwithyourFonalityPhoneSystemandIPphoneswhenever possible.pleasetestandcertifyanyadditionalwiringnecessarybeforeinstallingyoursystem. 2.2UnpackingyourPhoneSystem YourFonalityPhoneSystemcomeswithapacketofdocuments.PleasereferencetheFonality confirmatione mailtoobtainyouradministrativelogincredentialsforthefonalityadminpanel. Besuretoprintand/orkeepthisinformationinasafeplace.Youwillbereusingthesecredentials tologontoyouradminpanel. IfyouorderedaFonalitysystemwithanaloginterfaces,yellowphonecablesareincludedwiththe system.thesecablesarecustomandrequiredforinstallationandarespecifictoyourfonality analogcard.*donotdiscardthem*. 2.3VisualInspection Takeamomenttoopenthesystemcaseandlookatthe componentsinside.componentscansometimesshakeloose duringshipping.verifyallpcicardsandmemorymodulesare properlyseatedandsecurelyfastened. 8 3.0Installation Let sgetstarted! 3.1IdealPhoneSystem Location InstallingyourFonalityPhone Systemintheappropriate locationonyournetworkwill ensureoptimalsystem performance.thefonality PhoneSystemshouldbe placedonthesamelan segmentasyouripphones (excludingtelecommuters)as describedinfigure FIGURE3.1.1:Proper(top)and improper(bottom)placement ofafonalityserveronan examplenetwork 3.2ConfiguringNetworkSettings BeforeyoubootyourFonalityPhoneSystem,youwillneedtoconfigureyournetworksettings.A staticipaddressshouldbemanuallyassignedtothephonesystemtoavoidunexpectedipaddress changesthatmayresultinalossofconnectivity.youshouldavoiddhcp. CAUTION:FailuretouseaDHCPreservationorastaticIPaddressforyourFonality PhoneSystemcanresultintheIPaddressoftheserverchangingunexpectedly, interruptingtheconnectionbetweenyourserverandyouripphones.youwillbe unabletomakeorreceivecallsduringthistime. 8

9 3.2.1IdentifyinganAvailableIPAddress TosetastaticIPaddress,firstidentifyanIPaddressoutsidetherangeofIPaddressesassignedby yourdhcpserver.thisrangeisknownasthe DHCPScope ObtainingAdditionalNetworkInformation OnceanIPaddresshasbeenidentified,confirmthatyouhavealltherequirednetwork information: SubnetMask ThesubnetmaskdefinesthenetworkandhostportionsofyourIPaddress.For example,thedefaultclasscsubnetmaskis DefaultGateway Thedefaultgatewayallowscommunicationtotravelfromonenetworkorsubnetto another.adefaultgatewayisusuallytheipaddressofarouterorfirewall. NetworkAddress AnetworkaddressdefinestheIPaddressofyourentirenetwork.Itisusuallythe firstipaddressonagivennetworkorsubnet.atypicalclasscnetworkaddressis BroadcastAddress AbroadcastaddressistheIPaddressusedtobroadcastamessagetoeveryhost onagivennetwork.itisusuallythelastipaddressonanygivensubnet. DNSServer ThisserverresolvesfullyqualifieddomainnamestoIPaddresses.LocalDNSServersare thebestoption.publicdnsserversresideontheinternet.oneexampleforthepublicipaddressofa DNSServeris IPAddress Thenetworkconfiguration SubnetMask exampleontheleft DefaultGateway isforinformational NetworkAddress purposesonly. BroadcastAddress AvailabilityofDNSService IfyournetworkdoesnothaveafunctionalDNSserver,ortheDNSconfigurationmanually programmedintothefonalityphonesystemisinvalid,thefonalityphonesystemwillnotbeable toconnecttofonality sdatacenter.youcanresolvethisissuebyusingtheipaddressofalocally availablednsserverorapublicdnsserverinyourconfiguration(i.e or ).your phonesmustusethefonalityphonesystemastheirprimarydnsserver.configureyourdhcp servertodistributetheipaddressofthefonalityphonesystemastheprimarydnsserver.ifyou areunabletosetthefonalityphonesystemastheprimarydnsserver,yourphoneswillnot functionproperly. 10 3.3PoweringOnyourSystem WhenyoufirstpoweronyourFonalityPhoneSystem,makesurethatamonitor,keyboard,and EthernetcablewithanactiveInternetconnectionareattached.AllowyourFonalityPhoneSystem tobootupuntilyouseean inactive prompt.type activate tocontinue. 3.4CompletingyourInstallation Afterenteringyournetworksettings,youwillbepromptedtoenteryourusernameandpassword. ThesearetheFonalityAdminPanelcredentialse mailedtoyoubyfonality.thiswillcompleteyour activationandtheconfigurationofyourfonalitysystem.oncepromptedto,pressenterto completetheinstallation. 3.5LoggingintotheAdminPanelfortheFirstTime FromanotherPCwithInternetaccess(DONOTuseyourFonalityPhoneSystem)connectto WelcomeMessage,youarereadytoproceedtothenextstep. 11 4.0ConnectingyourIPPhones OnceyouconfirmthatyourFonalityPhoneSystemisproperlyconnectedtotheFonalityData Center,connectyourIPphonestoyournetwork.Bydefault,Fonalitypre configuresallphonesto obtainanipaddressviadhcp. **YoumustprovisionallIPphonesonthesameLANasyourFonalityPhoneSystem.Failureto dosowillkeepyourphonesfromworking.onceyouhaveauto provisionedyouripphones,they arereadytobeusedeitheronyourlanorremotely.** 4.1PhoneProvisioning Setupinstructionsdifferbetweenphonemodels.Thefollowingsectionsprovideyouwith instructionsonsettingupyouraastraandpolycomphones.toensureproperprovisioning,you mustplaceyourphonesonthesamenetworkasyourfonalityphonesystem AastraPhoneProvisioning WhenyoufirstconnectanyAastraphonetothesamenetworkasyourFonalityPhoneSystem,the Fonalitysystemattemptstolocatethephone,createanextension,createconfigurationfiles,and makethefilesavailablefordownloadtothephone.ifthephonefailstograbitsconfigurationthe firsttime,pleaserebootthephoneoncemore.ifthisfails,pleaseusetheinstructionsbelowfor theappropriatemodelofaastraphone: ShouldyouhaveanytroubleregisteringanAastraphone,pleaserefertothefollowingwikiarticle forinstructionsabouthowtoflashanaastraphone: AlloftheAastramodelphonesthatFonalitysellsarelistedwithphone specificinstructionsfor flashing.pleasepaycarefulattentiontoyouraastraphonemodelastheinstructionswilldiffer. 11

13 4.1.3InstallingSoftphones Softphonesaresoftwareclientsinstalledonacomputerthatcanfunctionasregulardeskphones. IfyoupurchasedsoftphonelicenseswithyourFonalityPhoneSystem,pleaseusethefollowing instructionstoregisterthesoftphonewithyourfonalitysystem: 1) LogintotheFonalityAdminWebInterfaceathttp://panel.fonality.comusingyourserver s administrativeusernameandpassword 2) Hoveroverthe"Extensions"tabandclickon"devices"inthesub menu 3) Select"FonalitySoftphone"fromtheVendordrop down.youwillnoticethatthemacfield isauto populatedwith"softphone 4) Now,click"AddDevice".Assumingyouhaveenoughlicensestoaddthisdevice,youwill nowseeitinthetableatthebottomofthepage 5) MakeanoteoftheSIPusername(SOFTPHONE*) 6) Next,clickthe Extensions tab,andlocatetheextensionyouwanttochange.clickonthe extensionnumberandmakenoteoftheuserpanelusername(andpasswordifyouknow it).ifyouwishtoaddthissoftphoneforanewuser,click"addextension"insteadof viewinganexistingextension 7) Nowthatyou'reeithereditinganexistingextensionorcreatinganewone,locatethe "Phones/Devices"drop downmenu.itisthelastsettinginthe"viewingextension"boxto thetop left.setthe Phones/Devices selectiontothedevicethatyoujustadded(itwillbe thesamenameastheoneyounotedinstep 5 8) Click Applyallchanges onceyouhaveselectedallofyourdesiredsettings.thiswill associateyournewsoftphonewiththisextension 9) RuntheFonalitysoftphoneinstaller.Youcanalsocanfinditat: 10) Whentheprogramstarts,youwillbeaskedtoenteryourusernameandpassword.Atthe LoginUsername promptenterthesettingyouusedforthe WebUsername (UserPanel username)instep6. 11) Afteryourusernameandpasswordisvalidated,youwillbeaskedtoenteryoursoftphone licensekey.thiskeywase mailedtoyouwhenyoupurchasedyourfonalitysoftphone 12) Whenyoucompletetheinstallationwizard,yourphonewillbefullyconfiguredwiththe correctextensionanddeviceinformation **Pleasenote,thesoftphoneissupportedneithernativelynoremulatedonMacOSX.** 13

14 4.2RemotePhones YourFonalitysystemsupportsremoteIPphonesthatworkandactexactlylikephonesontheLAN. However,beforeyoustartusingyourIPphonesremotely,youmustfirstpluginthephonesonthe samelanasyourfonalityphonesystemsotheycandownloadtheirconfigurationfiles. FonalityrecommendsthatyouplaceyourFonalityPhoneSystemonyourfirewall sdmzporteither physicallyorviaanadministrativesettingwithinyourfirewall.registeringremotephoneswith yourfonalitysystemrequiresthefollowingchanges: 1. TheServerAddressonthephonemustbechangedfromsNNNN.pbx.fonality.comto snnnnx.pbx.fonality.com. 2. ThefollowingportsmustbeopenedifyourFonalityPhoneSystemsitsbehindafirewall: a. UDP5060(forregistration) b. UDP (forRTPaudio) DetailedinstructionsforeachtypeofsupportedIPphonecanbefoundat: 4.3TestingIPPhones VerifythateachphonecancommunicatewiththeFonalityPhoneSystembyliftingthehandsetand dialing 0.Youshouldhearthedefaultautoattendantgreeting.Thisisthesamegreetingyour callerswillhearwhenyourfonalityphonesystemanswersincomingcalls.youcanseethestatusof eachipphoneusingtheextensionstabinthefonalityadminpanel.viewtheipaddressofeach registeredphoneby mousing over thepulsing,greenicon.iftheiconisflashingred,thephone willnotbeabletoplaceorreceivecalls. 4.4SupportedIPPhones TheFonalityPhoneSystemonlysupportsIPphonesqualifiedbyFonalityandsoldbyDell.You cannotprovision used or new IPphonesorphonesfromapreviousphonesystemoranother vendor.thislimitationexistsinordertoensurecompatibilitytodayandforallfutureupgradesto thefonalityphonesystem. 14

15 5.0ConnectingyourTrunks Trunkscanbeanyof:Analoglines,PRI,oraT1withaSIPconnection.Detailsofeachtypeare brieflydiscussedbelow: 5.0.1SIP&IAX2:PureVoice over IP SIPtrunksareavailableinmostareasofthecountryfromavarietyofreputablecompanies.IAX2is anothervoipprotocolavailablefrommanyofthesameproviderswhosellsipservices.ifpossible, pleasehaveyourprospectivesip/iax2providerperformqualitytestswithyoubeforecommitting toacontract.fonalityphonesystemsarecompatiblewithnearlyallsipproviderservices PRI:VoiceT1 PRIscanbeleasedfromanynumberoftelecomcompanies.PRIsare VoiceT1 connectionsthat havebeenprovisionedwithastandard23voicechannelsand1data/signalingchannel(north Americaonly).PRIsoffersuperiorvoicequalityandfeatureslikeCallerID AnalogLines OldFriends Analogtrunksare,ofcourse,themostcommontypeofconnectiontothePSTN(PublicSwitched TelephoneNetwork).TheFonalityPhoneSystemworkswithallstandardanalogcircuits. 5.2ConnectingAnaloglines YoushouldnowconnectallanaloglinestotheanaloglineportsonthebackofyourFonalityPhone System.BesuretousethecoloredanaloglinecablesprovidedwithyourFonalityPhoneSystem. Normalanalogphonecableswillnotwork. 15

16 5.2.1ConnectingyourAnalogPhones WARNING!Pleasemakesurethatyoureviewalldocumentationandpictures beforeconnectinganydevices,orphonelines,toyourdell/fonalityphonesystemas youmightdamageyourhardwareifnotdoneproperly. IfyouareusingAnalogphonelines,andyoupurchasedaDellbundlewithanAnalogportcard, pleasemakesuretoplugthecustomanalogcablesthatshippedwithyourfonalityphone SystemintotheportslightedRED.IfyoupurchasedanFXSportcardbundlefromDell,andyou areplugginginyouranalogphones,overheadpagingsystem,orafaxmachine,pleaseplug thesedevicesintogreenportsonly. 17 5.3Faxing(optional) IfyouwouldliketouseyourFonalityPhoneSystemforfaxing,thereareacoupleofimportant pointsyouneedtoknow: 1. Inordertofax,youmusthaveanAnalogcard a. T1/PRIcard b. AnalogcardwithGREENlightedports(whenpowered) 2. YoumustspecifyintheOptions cardspagewhichanalogportsare fax ports. 3. EachfaxmachinemustbeconfiguredonyourFonalityPhoneSystemasanextension. 4. Youmustconfigure gotosubmenu/extensionbynumberdialed topointyourfaxnumber atyourfaxportviatheappropriateextension. FaxportswilllightupgreenonthebackofyourFonalityPhoneSystem.Donotconnectany othertypeofanalogdevicetogreenports. Reliablefaxingrequiresaveryefficienttimingsource.YourFonalityPhoneSystemgetsinternal timingfromthet1/pricard.theanalogcardinstalledforfaxinghasbeenspeciallyconfiguredto connecttothet1/pricardviaajumpercable.forthisreason,thet1/pricardmustbeinstalledin thefirstpci/pcieslotandtheanalogcardinstalledinthesecondpci/pcieslot.faxportsare uniqueandcannotbeconfiguredasanyothertypeofport(e.g.analogphoneoroverheadpaging system). PleaserefertoFigure whenconnectingyourfaxmachinesandanalogphonestoafax ready FonalityPhoneSystem. 17

18 5.4ConnectingT1Lines IfyouorderedaT1card,itispreconfiguredtousethemostcommonT1settings.However,the configurationoptionsmayneedtobechangeddependingontheconfigurationofyourcarrier. ObtainacutsheetfromyourcarrierandmakesurethattheconfigurationsettingsintheFonality AdminPanelmatchthatofyourcarrier.YoucanconfigureyourT1cardintheOptions cards pageofthefonalityadminpanel. 5.5SettingupVoIPAccounts Ifyouhaveanaccountwitha3rdpartyVoIPprovider,youwillneedtousetheOptions VoIP pageofthefonalityadminpaneltoconfigurethevoiptrunk.manyvoipprovidershavetemplates withdefaultsettingspre configuredlocatedinthe Provider dropdownmenu. FindMe also includes a White List and a VIP List that enhance the overall functionality of this technology. Using the White List, you can configure exactly who is able to find you.
