3 Understanding ADA Compliance, Accommodations & Resources: Fast Facts For Faculty When: 12:00-1:30 p.m. (CST), June 2, 2015 Where: Faculty Technology Center, 109 Middleton Library There are many rules, regulations, legislation, and policies that affect higher education. Whether they are long-standing or brand-new, the laws that govern faculty and students can be very confusing. However complex, it is crucially important for faculty to understand the basics in order to support student success as well as ensure compliance. Working within the parameters of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is no different. This webinar will shine a light on the rights and responsibilities of faculty in regard to ADA compliance and accommodations, as well as the rights and responsibilities of students. Participants will walk away from this webinar with a clearer understanding of what reasonable accommodations are all about so that they can best serve their students and support student success. Participants will also identify at least one campus resource available to them and walk away knowing how to find additional resources and information both on and off campus. 6 The Faculty Technology Center is working for you! The FTC offers training workshops for a number of supported technologies. Video Captioning Services for Faculty Members The Faculty Technology Center is currently piloting a video captioning service for faculty on campus to further aid in the compliance with ADA standards, and to help promote video usage in learning environments. There are no fees associated with this service, and videos will remain in the same place where they were uploaded. After the video(s) have been captioned, the instructor will be informed, and he or she will need to ensure the accuracy of the captions. This service only applies to videos which are related to courses taught at LSU. 7 Student FAQS What is the status of my Graduate School application? Please log on to the graduate application self-service center at to view the status of your application and when it was last updated. You will receive these login credentials upon beginning the application. What does it mean if my graduate application is under review by the department? Graduate programs at LSU recommend admission decisions to the Graduate School. Upon receiving sufficient application materials for review, departments notify the Graduate School of their admissions recommendation. The Graduate School then processes the application, evaluates all transcripts and makes the final decision on admission. To ensure the fastest decision possible ensure you have sent ALL required documents to the Graduate School. What is the price of tuition for an online class? The price of tuition varies among the LSU online programs per credit hour. Please refer to the LSU Online Orientation website for specific prices. Do I ever need to appear at the LSU campus for LSU Online programs? No, you do not. LSU Online programs are 100% online and require no on-campus appearance. Check with your program for any activities or events that may be available to you should you be in in the Baton Rouge area. Do I need to request LSU transcripts for LSU Online? If you attended LSU A&M in Baton Rouge, you do NOT need to request your LSU transcript. However, if you attended any other LSU campus including the Law School, please request that official transcripts be sent to the appropriate PO Box for your program (listed in this newsletter on the page titled LSU Online Students: Need Help?).

8 FAQS Continued Is financial aid available for online students? Yes, students in an LSU Online graduate program may be eligible for financial aid. For more infor-mation your questions to How do I find out who my advisor and/or class instructor is? Your advisor will be assigned by your department. Feel free to contact your department for specifics as to who your instructor will be for a class. Generally, Moodle (the class delivery system) displays class information at least 10 to 14 days before the class begins. Instructions for Moodle are covered in the LSU Online Orientation. Contact information for advising assistance can be found at: Do I have a student ID number as an online student? Yes the first place to find this is on your decision letter. LSU cannot mail you your LSU ID number for security purposes. Do I get a student ID card? Students in a LSU Online program may apply for and receive an LSU ID card ( Tiger Card ). Instructions for obtaining the ID card can be found at: I have been admitted: Now what do I do? After submission of your application you received an with PAWS lite account information, including a temporary LSU ID number. This will remain your ID number upon admission so please keep the information in a safe place. The PAWS account allows you to log in to your LSU account. After admission, you will receive an orientation letter in your LSU account with information regarding your registration, orientation, and other details about your graduate or post-baccalaureate education at LSU Online. Do I have to attend orientation? LSU Online Orientation is available virtually. Upon admission, you will receive an in your LSU account which provides links to orientation information.

The Student Services orientation provides important information on the academic/registration calendar, refund policies, registration procedures, and other critical services. New students to LSU Online are required to set up an account with ProctorU and walk through an initial identify verification process. In order to complete the process, you must meet ProctorU s technical requirements (computer with highspeed Internet, web cam, and microphone, etc.) and pay the associated charge. Visit ProctorU s website ( to setup your account and to walk through the one-time Student Authentication procedure. Once you have completed this step, you will have access to your LSU Online Moodle courses. 4. At the discretion of each faculty member, exam proctoring may also be provided by ProctorU. Each workshop takes about minutes to complete and covers a range of topics, including online learning, reading and writing strategies, learning to learn, and personal management. We highly suggest that beginning students attend at least one of these virtual workshops to orient themselves to the expectations and unique challenges encountered in an online setting.
