1 National Collegiate Retention and Persistence to Degree Rates Sce 1983, ACT has collected a comprehensive database of first- to second-year retention rates and persistence to degree rates. These rates provide national benchmarks for stitution type and level of selectivity. Data are compiled by ACT from the ACT Institutional Data Questionnaire, an annual onle survey of formation collected from two-year and four-year postsecondary stitutions. 2 Important Information About These Tables Cohort description: First-time/full-time students who were first enrolled at a postsecondary stitution fall Retention rate: Percent of first-time/full-time students who first enrolled fall 2012 and were also enrolled fall 2013 at the same stitution. Persistence to degree rate: Percent of students completg a degree with a designated timeframe at the same stitution. The tables this document are based on the year which a particular cohort enrolled as first-time/full-time degree-seekg students, as illustrated below. Number of Years to Complete Year of First Enrollment These reports are based on data accumulated through June 6, Many of the tables are reported by stitutional selectivity. The selectivity categories used are based on the general descriptions below. ACT SAT Middle Middle Level 50% 50%* Defition Highly Selective Majority admitted from top 10% of H.S. class Selective Majority admitted from top 25% of H.S. class Traditional Majority admitted from top 50% of H.S. class Liberal Majority admitted from bottom 50% of H.S. class Open Generally open to all with H.S. diploma or equivalent * SAT score ranges are a pot-to-pot concordance with ACT scores based on a jot study by ACT and the College Board. ranges may vary from one stitution to another. 2
