2 DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM AND TARGET AUDIENCE The purpose of this activity is to provide registered nurses, nurse researchers, and nurse educators the opportunity to network and explore current research findings of colleagues through oral and poster presentations. This forum is designed to bridge nursing s future through research with current changes in health care, as we embrace our profession with unity. OBJECTIVES At the end of the activity, the participant will be able to: 1. Discuss evidence-based practice related to changes in quality improvement across the lifespan. 2. Describe some of the current challenges in providing nursing care to vulnerable populations. 3. Identify three examples of technology changes that impact today s patient care safety. 4. Network and share current research transforming nursing education. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Maryann Alexander, PhD, RN is the Chief Officer of Nursing Regulation for the NCSBN. In this position, she oversees the division of Nursing Regulation which includes all activities related to research, education, practice, and licensure. Prior to her current position she served as the Executive Director of the Illinois Board of Nursing. In addition to these responsibilities, she oversees the Center for Regulatory Excellence Grant Program and is the editor of the Journal of Nursing Regulation. She was a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics and was formerly on staff at Rush University Medical Center where she also held a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing. She earned her BSN and MSN degree from Northwestern University. Her PhD is in Nursing with an emphasis in Health Policy from the University of Illinois. She has authored articles and book chapters; has won several research awards and has given numerous presentations locally, nationally and internationally. ENDNOTE SPEAKER Barbara Morvant, MN, RN, is the Executive Director for the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. She is a nationally recognized leader in the field of nursing regulation, who specializes in the improvement of nursing regulation by continually providing leadership in the refinement of rules, regulations, and processes in the state of Louisiana and through national activities. Prior to joining LSBN, Mrs. Morvant worked as Executive Director or LSNA, Asst. Director of Touro Infirmary School of Nursing, and was an instructor at LSU School of Nursing in New Orleans.Her Professional Activities include the National Council State Board of Nurisng, and the American Nurses Association and its affiliates. She has been an active member of the NCSBN for many years. The current financial viability of the NCSBN is to a large extent a credit to her financial leadership as Treasurer of the organization. Mrs. Morvant has been recognized for her direct and substantial contributions to the improvement of nursing regulations. She was instrumental in establishing the LSBN Recovering Nurse Program, establishing criminal background analysis for all licensees and student nurses, and establishing the La Center for Nursing.
