15 Department: Dance Item#: TBD Budget Title: Visiting Assistant Professor Salary: Competitive Visiting Assistant Professor, Ballet The Department of Dance comprises artists, scholars, and educators who train dancers on the graduate and undergraduate level for a wide variety of careers in the arts as choreographers, performers, teachers, and leaders in the dance field. The students in the highly selective programs excel not only in the studio and on stage, but also as critical thinkers and writers. Producing six dance concerts a year in two dedicated dance theatre spaces, one proscenium and one studio theatre, there are numerous choreography and performance opportunities open to all students in the department. State of the art facilities in the department include five large dance studios, a conditioning lab, costume shop, and a health pool. The modern dance-centered program includes a variety of approaches to modern dance, as well as studio courses in ballet, contact improvisation and partnering, tap, African dance and drumming, and Irish dance. Students explore the areas of choreography, dance history and theory, teaching methodologies, somatics, and movement analysis. The Department of Dance is seeking a full time, non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor to teach ballet in the Department of Dance at the College at Brockport. This new position, a three-year contract with potential for renewal, joins a large and diverse faculty and professional staff. The instructor will teach all levels of ballet technique and one other area of specialty.
